Grommit Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Well I'm off until the 31st. I was going to sit at home and write some documentatiion up but the doc has told me in no uncertain terms to do that or any other work stuff or he is going to sign me off for at least 2 months come sept. Cool... Not really needed at work are we ?
Paid_Peanuts Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 How is everyone doing with so little time before students and staff are back in? We have been working 11-12 hour days recently trying to get as much as we can possibly get done. Very few things are actually complete and will be complete by Wednesday next week when the students arrive back. Good job i've only had 1 days holiday this holiday (all year actually) otherwise half of what we have already done wouldnt have even been started!
User3204 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 We've made sure that things are all available. New rooms have images, old rooms have been re-imaged. Laptops, for new staff, are ready, laptops for replacing existing staff, aren't. I have imported no users into the email / web / support databases, but they are all on the logon domains. The network is running on nice new HP gigabit switches, there are nice shiny new fibre converters. I have done none of the configuration on these new devices, so no QOS / routing / filtering. There's still builders in "finishing off", so I haven't managed to get my network cablers in, so they're still working, and may still be in next week.
tech_guy Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I've been on me hols in India for nearly three weeks and spent the rest coding up me own website. Upgrades, re-imaging, eek - isn't that what the October half term is for? 8O
MrLudwig Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 You all sound like you've had a really busy summer. I would have been busy also, but the Head wouldn't authorise any overtime, so I've had 5 weeks off. Still, I'm sure when we get back everything will be fine, after all, what could possibly go wrong?
tech_guy Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Still, I'm sure when we get back everything will be fine, after all, what could possibly go wrong? Eek - I'd be checking out Monster.com for any suitable vacancies if this were me....
witch Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I've just driven past one of my schools - the one with the drains being done - and all the area around the school is dug up - in fact it is STILL BEING dug up, and the children are due back on Tuesday. I can't bring myself to go and look at the inside.
Gatt Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Had to roll out images without Adobe CS3 - which still hasn't arrived.. well it did.. but it got sent to WARRINGTON not here... Things are an absolute nightmare here... Next week, I will be in the Pub...
DMcCoy Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH! PANIC! Still rather a lot left to do. Spent most of the day putting 144 patch cables in a 5412
plock Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Currently finishing up installing our new computer suite (30 machines); a whole load left on the to-do-list though!
sqdge Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 A whole load left on the to-do-list though! My to-do list still covers an entire whiteboard. And, since I handed in my notice 2 days ago, I now only have 4 weeks to do it all in!
witch Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Where are you going, sqdge? We are not losing you, I hope? (just love the sheep)
sqdge Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Where are you going, sqdge? We are not losing you, I hope? (just love the sheep) I going to spread the word to America - and maybe get married on the way. No, you won't lose me - but I may be an ironic EduGeek for a while. In case you want to know more, the sheep is called Gerald. He's a semi-autobiographical sheep that I draw when I'm bored. You can see more of him on Paktocon (my website).
EduTech Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 erm.. going well but i will let you know on tuesday when the kids are back.. We are waiting for NS Bloody Optimum to deliver another 58 sytems.. still have one IT room with no Systems due to them :@:@.. oh we got 20 machines yesterday set them up and deployed the Images today.. HAPPY DAYS. I think i am going to reset all the users passwords so that they all know there password when they get back
Grommit Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Thank God i am not alone.... To many jobs... so little time...
Joedetic Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 If the NS in NS optimum stands for Nil Satis then it reads Nil Satis Optimum...sometimes mistranslated as "nothing but the best" which would be Nil Satis Nisi Optimum. A slightly better translation is "there is no sufficient best" or "your best is not good enough." Sounds about right from what people have been saying about them recently.
EduTech Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Yh.. they are cheap and can be good.. but sometimes they do mess people up like us.. we have no systems for a room so when the lil shits come bk to the school they can't use one of the rooms lol (supose that will stop them from breaking machines in that room) lol . NS Optimum installed our fibre was ment to do it in the first week.. finished it last week
Joedetic Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I forget who did our cabling etc but i know it was a mix of Stone computers (who also supplied my uni until recently) and Birchfield electric.
john Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Should just about manage the 'must dos' rather than the 'would like to do'. Must do's, hmmm I think I still have a bout 15 on my list of them, but after seeing too many late nights and working out that the time in leu policy we have on overtime would mean that I would be off from now till Christmas if I took every single last minute (well maybe not quite that long but more than just a couple of early finishes!) that im not bothering, the computers are in and have Windows on them, the printers did work in July, who needs user accounts, i've got tools from here to fix that on Monday morning
sidewinder Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 NS Optimum installed our fibre was ment to do it in the first week.. finished it last week That sounds about right for them I do hope you've tested it, because they probably didnt bother Ive got no idea if everything is sorted for next week, Ive been off work for over a week so for now ignorance is bliss. When I left though almost everything was done and there were a few people in this week so I would be surprised if there was much to do on Monday For once, Im quite calm and happy about the start of the new year

They aint a bad company.. have had some good experiances with them i must say but this holiday they did make a mess of things unfortunatly.# Hopfully all is finished Before Tuesday!!
