I found Windows Server Backup took way too long. I still have it as a backup but dont use it. Instead I take Exports of each VM from HyperV Manager. I find it a lot quicker to get a machine back up and running. I even tried it on another computer with completly different spec and got the VM to boot up fine.

Ran a club getting kids to build their own computers.

Everything looks great.....Apart from Mrs Browns Boys, that should have been axed years ago.

The great thing with unify kit is there is no additional cost. The key is one off cost of about £75 It’s about the size of a calculator and plugs into a POE port on your switch. Then just login to it via the IP address and has built in web interface. Advantage of that over hosting software on your own machine is its one less machine to look after. I got all my kit from 4gon. I bought the pro access points and you get 5 in a pack with mounting brackets included. 5 pack was about £600 As long as you have a Poe switch then hook them straight up or else get the optional Poe adapters. They’ll be picked up by the controller. Very straight forward.

Ive just recently swapped out all my old Meru and Cisco Meraki kit for Ubiquiti Unifi Pro Access Points. They are briliant. Either host the controller software yourself on a PC or as I have done, pick up a Unifi Key which just plugs into a POE port on your switch. Easy to configure. Everytime you add a Access point it shows up in the controller and you just adopt it and it sends down the config.

We are about to go for PS Financials and weve been told we dont need anything installing our end.

So a long time ago before I was here the school had Hikvision CCTV put in and it all goes back to one office. This is great from a security point of view but with Behaviour mentors needing access it means they have to constantly disrupt the office and it is quite cramped in there already! Whoever did the work was shockingly bad, the cable runs are so tight you cant even move the NVR without stretching everything and the terminations are poor. Cameras are POE from the NVR. Not currently connected to the school network. I'd like to relocate the NVR or find a way to let users access the CCTV without going into the office. I'm reluctant to join it to the main school network. Anyone have any ideas? Thankyou.

I thought I'd update this thread... The project took a little longer than expected with the whole lockdown situation..... However... I decided to go for Ubiquiti Unifi Pro Access Points and have to say they are brilliant. I decided to get a Unifi Key just becuase I didnt want the software installed on a machine and the whole system is really easy to use and functions great. Really reccomend the Ubiquiti AP's.

Yes I can ping it fine and trying to access it from my normal desktop machine with proxy set as normal.

Having a bit of a brain freeze. Whatever I have, for example a Synology Diskstation, Printers, etc, I cant seem to be able to browse to their setup pages by entering the IP address. Have checked with IP scanner and can see the devices on the network but cant get the web settings up with the IP. Router issue? Thanks all.

I'm about to purchase some Ubiquiti Access points that state: Passive Power over Ethernet (48V), 802.3af/802.3at Supported (Supported Voltage Range: 44 to 57VDC) I'm running some oldish Cisco switches, Cisco SG300-28PP Im reading conflicting information. Does anyone know whether the POE from these switches will be fine to power the access points? I'm a little out of touch with the power standards. Thankyou.

Tell her the access points are off and see if the headaches improve. Then once she tells you all is fine, tell her they were never off in the first place. Im guessing she probably has a mobile phone? Will she be turning that off too?

Thanks grahamd22 that would be great. I dont think there is one finance package that I've seen that has been 100% amazing unfortuantely.

What problems have you had?

All our teachers have their files in the cloud (google drive) whilst office admin and business manager/SLT have local drives, eg. office drive, Finance documents, etc.

I've seen many users share files with others via Drive or other services and then someone overwrites the file or something gets deleted. Or if a user is deleted and work is shared with someone else then they suddenly cant find the work anymore. In an ideal world users should be careful and know what they are doing but they dont.

Th main issue with any of these is making sure they have good backup options.

It sounds like it is a success for some and a nightmare for others. If we do go for it I think it will have to be the hosted option as we are currently using SQL Express and this needs the ful package plus I dont want it messing up my Sims server.
