SLT want faster broadband
Sonic007 replied to Sonic007's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Distance from the exchange apparently. -
So SLT would like faster broadband and keep moaning it’s too slow. No surprise there as all teachers are trying to do zoom calls and stream etc. We are currently with RM on fibre to the cabinet which gives us upto 80mbps But we get no where near. We are restricted to 25Mbps download and 5Mbps Upload speeds. Business manager mentioned looking at EXA networks but from what I hear they aren’t great. Anyone recommend anything? Leased line? There is no FTTP availability in the area. Fixed fibre leased line been quoted £17000! What’s my options. Thanks all.

Thankyou everyone for your replies.

I'm switching from Meraki to Ubiquiti. Good prices and will save tonnes of money. No licensing costs either.

The Exports from HyperV work quite well. I just wondered if there was any need for a set regular backup or does it not matter when restoring. Maybe it is only if there were two Domain controllers but this is just one?

A friend of mine has a small business and they are running a win2016 server with about 10 machines. All their data file shares are backed up but just wondering about taking exports of the hyper V domain controller and file server. Would that be sufficient and does it matter how often these backups are taken? It’s just the structure really that needs backing up so if all fails it can be re-imported and back in business again. Thanks.

Would opening these ports cause any issues?

I can get on the net fine from the Pi so it connects fine and can ssh into it too via another machine. -

Will try it at home later. Proxy has been set on the Pi. -

Thankyou Mavhc for your reply. You are right that some are already open. I just wanted to check the others. The reason Im asking is Im trying to get a RaspberryPi working on our network with FlightRadar24.... A little project we are doing to track flights. It has been not wanting to connect properly so I wondered if it was a ports issue and these were the ones reported as needing outgoing when behind a firewall. -

But just imagine the evenings of countless fun you could have over a glass of wine sorting out each others bins.

If it is your drive then you have all the right in the world. As for the receycling, I'd leave them to it. Not worth the time or hassle. If on the other hand there is rubbish everywhere and it is causing a problem then contact the council.

That is awesome! -
Just given the Export setting a go and it seems to do exactly what I want so I can import it again if needed.

Hi, So, I'm looking at the best way to backup my HyperV VM's and have currently got Windows Server Backup doing it's thing....but the restore process isn't as slick as I'd like. I've tried Vaeem, didnt get on with it. Would the Export function in HyperV manager backup everything and let me then restore from that? This seems easier and can be done from the HyperV Manager isntead of having to go into the actual server, run WinServerBackup, etc? Thanks all.

Many thanks everyone.

I've got a Windows 2016 server with two VM's and have all the correct licensing in place for it. I need to do some testing so have setup a seeprate computer with my Windows Server install. Do I need extra licensing for a machine that will just be used for testing? Will the moment I connect it to the net it cause issues for my current active server? Many thanks for the help.

Google Drive not an option? If not then Synology al the way.

Thanks for your reply. There is a second port on the host. I guess I could’ve used that. In the end have got a spare edge router I’m going to put in and configure it for the ip range.
-
Yes there are basic switches. The issue is the domain controller was setup on a 192 network with a bt router on same ip range, subnet mask and gateway Now the offices own internet is on a 10.4 up range. I have my NIC on the phisical machine getting dhcp off the offices wall port. In hyperV I have a virtual switch that uses that network card but of course it won’t work as the Virtual domain controllers ip settings are on a different subnet.
-
The problem I have is the host is connected via dhcp and the hyperV domain controller is on a different ip range and gateway.

Hi. I’m moving my server to a new office that has its own internet and ports round the office. I’ve got the settings from doing an ipconfig. What do I need to update on my server to get it to work? I’ve got the physical machine connecting fine but my hyperV DC won’t connect. I’m confused on where I need to update the gateway settings or in the hyperV virtual switch? Any help much appreciated. Thankyou.
