The 2nd desk is my video editing workstation and for some unknown reason I keep that part of the desk tidy.

Hrrm even more confused now, the script is working. It’s bringing up an error message but the folder is full of text log files. EDIT: removed the $ from all four paths and its working perfectly. Thanks Tosh

Yes, currently have strUserDirectory = "\\Hp-server\Log_Logs$\Users" strCompDirectory = "\\Hp-server\Log_Logs$\Computers" Just tripled checked the permissions and tried other folders. As usefull as they are I sometimes hate scripts.

Those scripts from Tosh look perfect for what we need but I cannot get them working. It says line 23, char2, error path not found, code 800A003C.

1. Depends on location. Here the VLE was chosen by the LEA with no input form the staff or school. 2. Like any software product they are not all the same. The VLE the LEA gave us is not going be useful, but I have my doubts if any VLE would be of much use for us. 3. Doesn’t matter as long as it works, does everything that matters, has a good enough uptime and backup system. 4. Yes and No. In one way it’s nice to have the same interface and less learning for the parents. Then again if children are thought how to use software in general they should be able to easily adapt to a different VLE. A child that’s thought IT decently should be able to use a non MS Word program and other VLEs 5. I don’t see it being used as its offers no benefits and as a dumping ground it’s too slow compared to USB sticks or network drives.

Accounts get disabled a year after they have gone. Sometimes sooner if the username is needed by someone else. So far accounts have never been deleted. All homefolders are stored/archived.

With of bit of luck this could speed up the 20Mbit/s connections as all the heavy users move to 20meg.

Wake up stupidly early, get a drink of tea and skip breakfast. Drive out the city into the countryside to my horses without seeing another car on the road. Enjoy the peace, the world is so different, it’s almost like humans have vanished, not a sound. Treat the horses to something and if it’s snowing take them for a walk down the road to see all the children open presents. Get home at mid day and get shouted at for taking so long as everyone had to wait before opening any presents.

I see it as fixing a problem that’s not there. At least for us and I assume some other schools. Our children are not going to be going to other schools and they will not be needing to access work there. The problem many SEN schools will face is a single logon between a LEA district means unique usernames that are impossible for most of the children to remember. Among all the other problems a manage system might have. How often do children in mainstream go to other schools and need to access your schools work there?

The ELP has the advantage of letting them access the work at home. You don’t need a managed network for that. I can see a managed network being a nightmare for some SEN schools.

No, was told the common job descriptions from last year have been scrapped and the new ones not made yet.

Been told ours is at least another year away. Like most people I just want it over and done with.

I don’t know what to think of it. If it wasn’t a Star Trek film I would be massively looking forward to it. But as a Star Trek film it’s not what I expected by a long shot. But unsure if that’s a good or bad thing.

I have standard sized storeroom. In my office I have 5 large cabinets. 2 and half full sized desks and 2 more cabinets in the IT co-rds room which we share. New machines go on the 2nd desk while I work on the 1st. Out of school hours I lock any new machines in the sensory room. Like you I used to have problems but once I mentioned it, the school let me buy some decent cabinets which made a world a difference. Can you not write a letter explain the problem? I find letters often get dealt with more then verbal requests. Saying that an IT tech with a messy tech is a busy IT tech. A tidy desk means you dont have enough work

My school is meant to be haunted, but after working many late nights by myself I never experienced anything. Apart from because of the way our roof is made some rooms have a howling sound during windy days. But that’s hardly a haunting.

I thought off half a solution. Why not use a mapped drive to the secure photos folder and use a password and username to access them? At least that way you can access old photos. The only problem is I think the digital media is meant to be encrypted. But there must be solutions to that.

Does this one work in 64-bit browsers yet?

Secondary school with post16 students 75 ish pupils 43 desktops and 21 laptops 10 servers & admin PC’s 1 full time technician

Was offered one but turned it down as I don’t need it.

Installed it thoughout the school and the time it takes seems very random. One PC will take 20 to 30mins then the next PC over 60mins. Didn’t use MSI’s as I needed to uninstall old versions of the software first.
