If you have, you've got more than I have! ” I got access to Talk2Synetrix, EMS and Netsweeper and while setting up some mail redirections for our staff I spotted some mail rules to do with your school which I found odd. Tims email redirections e.c.t Was wondering if I added a redirection to say tims email to your or my email would it work. I really hope not. It in the dark grey area which I assume means global and cannot be edited. But who knows what you can do. So far there security hasn’t exactly been top notch. EDIT: Great now they have posted my email/account password in the Talk2Synetrix Journal. EDIT2: Account name and password listed.

At least you have the WAT tool I still don’t have it. Also I just got an email saying they are setting the passwords of various staff members to random passwords so they can do some migration work and that I can reset the passwords after the work. Great planning there, what with there being no one in school with WAT access. Another thing that bugs me is when I ring up they ask me for my username and password. They also asked me for other staff members username and passwords. This has happned a number of times now.

Lots of problems the system is next to useless. Half our teachers refuse to use it and have moved to google mail.

Outlook is working again and the portal apears to be.

"The school has 130 computers, 450 end users, 20 interactive whiteboards" 1 full time without a doubt perhaps a 2nd either part time or full time is better then for the odd weeks when there’s not enough to do stick the 2nd tech in classrooms as IT support and/or as teacher training on software. He has to much work for an inexperienced tech out of uni. I assume he has no long tearm experienced. I believe on the Beta website there are guide lines for IT techs per computer. Isnt it something like 50 comps per 1 IT Tech?

Out last Tally printer broke with a few consumables left. Any use to anyone? x1 Fuser Cleaning Roller T8006e/T8106/t8006 x1 Fuser Oil bottle T8006e/T8106/T8006/T8406/T8306 x1 Black cartridge T8006e/T8106/T8006 x1 Blue cartridge T8006e/T8106/T8006 EDIT: Possibly x1 Fuser Unit and x2 Waste toner for theT8006/E in the back of the storeroom.

The problem we have is the login details for the servers they gave us are wrong. The username is 3x longer then the typing limit for the username box for web admin and FTP access isnt working either. EDIT: Webadmin is working now.

What about software that needs the CD to run? Software that cannot be pushed out to clients via MSI? Clearly we don’t need spare mice, blank CD’s, DVD’s, microphones e.c.t I dread the day they force out service pack 3. We still have 4 machines without service pack 1 as the new French software we use doesn’t work with the service packs. I bet they will want to get rid of the last two Acorns as well, even though they are perfect for the job. Its crazy the ICT conference last week was talking about the way forward is IT techs and pushing innovation. Yet BFS is taking away IT techs and innovation. The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing, springs to mind. EDIT: In BFS who runs the school website and manages the internet Filtering and email? What about display TV's around the building?

Always confused about this IT techs don’t have an office. Where does software, spare parts, ink all get stored? Among everything else.

What do you lot think of a Midland hacking group? I was thinking of inviting another IT tech down to my school to attempt to hack my network. Then I go to their school and do the same. Could be fun and a learning experience which also benefits the school with more secure networks. Of course we have to be careful with signed bits of paper saying you have permission and wont case any damage e.c.t

Wondering about BSF and special schools myself as many of the things they are pushing are just plain silly for most schools of our type. 1 wireless device per pupil, open class rooms e.c.t none of those are going to work. Not a chance in hell. My biggest concern is the blanket system for everyone and treating eveyone the same. What about the special needs requirements? It’s not like most of the bidders know anything about how to setup a school for special needs.

I wouldn’t buy a house right away instead wait to I get 500k interested then put that towards a house. You don’t want to spend the million you want to spend the interested from the million. That’s where most people go wrong then run out of cash. £100 to £200 on horse tack and stuff. Lots of little things I always wanted to try or have. Perhaps another £100 on a saddle. Depending on when I won the cash £2 to £3k on building a new PC. If I won today I wouldn’t do a rebuild until next gen. 5 to 10k to play around with shares. 100k to 500k on a small house with a large field for horse’s. Some sort of barn conversion would be perfect for me. Rest in a high savings E-tradeing account and a bit more in a ISA. Would put another 1k aside to just have fun with. You know to buy that DVD you just spotted in the shop e.c.t EDIT: I would continue working but I might reduce my hours a bit. I would totally forget about BSF and everything to do with losing the job and stress. If I lost the job to BSF I or something I wouldn’t get another one I don’t think. Would I be working 5 years down the line? I dont think so. I wouldnt want to give up my job till the money had been in my bank a long time and I was sure had a plan to live off the money for life without running out. Who would tell other staff members?

I had no speed problems apart from when I used the slideshow viewer to show 10+ PC’s at once. The mouse on the PC’s became junky. I fixed this by installing DemoForge Video Hook Driver for TightVNC http://www.demoforge.com/dfmirage.htm PMed the password.

I tend to have problems upgrading to new versions. But what I have works very well I don’t bother upgrading anymore. Well worth the donation money. Love the slide show program and I found V3.1.8 the best version. The only feature missing that I would find useful is to lock the keyboard and mouse while I remote control the desktop.

From what I can gather instead of getting everything you choose what you need. You no longer automatically get stuff like video conferencing. I got sent for a free eye test a few years back though it was more for VDU use then a normal test.

Horse riding for me. Hacking and endurance riding not dressage and show jumping. There’s nothing like galloping though the middle of the woods without a single bit of civilisation in site or high-tech gadgets and thing-a-majigs. You can just switch off and relax forgetting about the rest of the world and technology. No end users either.

How many cals do you need for win server 2003? Some say its 1 per user, others 1 per computer and others say its 1 per connection. 5 CAL's cover 10 PC's as long as no more then 5 connect to the server at once. Right now I am going for 1 CAL per computer. Is that right?

Still watch it but often think they should have ended it lest season. Was the perfect place to end it with them getting away with the cash and no longer outlawed. Now it sometimes feels like they are dragging it on.

Not a fan of Netsweeper either mostly as I can only get two results from it. Block to much make the internet useless or let way too much though. Isnt the Promethean warranty for the projector, board, speakers, pens, amp, switch box e.c.t The price seems a lot as well sure it was £120 per board system last time I spoke to them.
