I would say that is far too much work for 1 person in 3 weeks. When I estimate projects I like to add on add on 10 or 20% to the time. Let’s say a day per server, that’s setting up, moving, installed, checking the lot. You have 6days just on the servers. More likely that’s 3 days to setup servers, Move onto workstations then 3 days checking workstations work. Break it up, 3 weeks is 15 work days at I assume around 7 to 8 hours a day. 9 daysleft at 7 hours a day gives you 63hours. That leaves 63 hours to do 415 computers divide 63hours over 415 and that does not leave many minuets per computer. Plus unless you are very fit you are going to slow down after moving that much equipment. Perhaps you want to spend more or less time on servers. But break it up. Estimate how long setting up 1 computer takes then times that amount of time by 415 computers. Estimate how long 1 server takes and times by 7. Add on 20% to the total time to cover unexpected problems or things that did not go smoothly.

Woodthorpe is pretty nice although not that rural. Nottingham in is a big place and rush hour traffic in some areas can be bad, much worse than you might expect. What can take 5 minutes any other time can take 30mins or more at rush hour. Southwell is a nice rural area but what would be a 40min trip normally and I bet could turn into 1 hour 30min at rush hour. (That’s a guess never timed it) I can get to Mansfield from Nottingham in 40mins. But I bet the same trip from Mansfield to Nottingham in the morning would be much, much longer. If you can, do some test drives during rush hour. I often drive out of Nottingham seeing long tailbacks of stationary or slow moving traffic trying to get in.

I read it as 10% most or all the planes will have problems and 90% chance no planes have problems. Why would 10% be 1 out of 10 planes? Its not 10% of planes flying though the ash have problems. It is 10% chance the ash will cause problems for all planes that fly though. At least that’s how I interpret it.

In that case post the cost for leaving a projector on overnight along with the yearly cost if they do it often. Make them think. Explain those prices are at night and cost more dueing the day.

Your numbers are way too low. “Monday - £7.14 Tuesday - £4.59 Wednesday - £6.12 Thursday - £8.16 Friday - £6.63 That’s per hour. Surely they go unused more than 1 hour a day. I would post bigger numbers to get a bigger impact and make people take notice. Say something like leaving 15 projectors all day every day is £42.84 a day or £214.2 a week or over the course of a year £8000+

No, like others I send out a short email if it’s something major. Sometimes mostly when its last minute I go into morning briefings.

I liked the question. Will the network socket have connectivity to the rest of the network. Err no we decided to just install blank network sockets on walls not connected to anything. EDIT: Will someone be present during installation to give usernames and passwords? How would I know you have yet to tell us when you are doing the install. Will the display meter be able to operate at 10/100. Is that even a needed questions anymore? Does anyone even run a network below 10. Are the questions really badly thought out or am I missing somethingl

We have been getting the exact same thing. Some laptops randomly get "Limited or No Connectivity". They will work one hour then not the next. It seems to be some sort of DHCP problem as when effect they get a default IP address. As far as I can see the only change has been some windows updates and its only older laptops that are affected. I gave some of the laptops a static IP address which fixed the problem but some need to be on DHCP due to changeing networks.

Never used a wireless monitor but wireless projectors at least the older wireless projectors could not cope with video very well. If you wanted the desktop or simple things like a word document it was ok for that. I am unsure if newer wireless projectors are better or if wireless monitors suffer from the same problem.

As I understand it when a SSD breaks often you can still read the data you just cannot write anymore to it.

can you install an older version of Google Earth. A number of children here complain as the version we have installed is old without it.

It depends on what type of information you want parents to access. If it’s just a notice board type room or a calendar room one username they all share should work. If you want the parents to only view their own child’s work that requires 1500 usernames and passwords. If you want a forums for parents to leave messages it might get confusing if they all share a username. The 3rd option is to let the parents log on from home with the child’s username and password. But here might be some sort of rules against that I don’t really know. Are the parents not in sims? Can you create 1500 usernames from sims in the same way as you did for the children? As long as sims is uptodate it should not be much work. (assumeing you use sims)

One of the main reasons behind VLP is so parents can have access. I think one of the goals is so parents can see there child(s) reports in real time although this is not working yet. Just give the parents a username with access to there childs room and no other rooms. Unless you have a parent room, not sure if I would want to give parents acess to much more then that. EDIT: Perhaps access to a notice board type room would be usefull.

It’s meant to be 10meg being upgraded to 20meg at some point for secondary schools. Although saying that we have a 2meg connection as a secondary school But I think we are the exception and most secondary schools are 10meg due for an upgrade. NetSweeper is used but you have lots of options. We have different filtering at different times of day so at launch time extra filtering is on. Teachers can log in and access teacher level filtering and you can set up different levels for different groups. The only thing I don’t think you can do is set up filtering based on the machine used. The way it works is you log into the EMBC portal, open a new tab and you have filtering based on your access.

We have had major problems with EMBC over the years some still ongoing like slow speeds. Very slow often half a meg download but upload speeds are good. Connections drop making large files hard to download, website take up to 1 to 2 mins to load, lots of downtime sometimes weeks at a time last year, tiny amount of web and Email space. On the up side the filtering is very good. *Just ran a speed test 0.8meg download with only me on the internet.

I would be working outdoors all year around as a yard hand looking after horse’s, training horse’s and most likely I would be 2 stone lighter.

For long team illness we let teachers keep them but TA’ have to hand them back. If we are short we might ask the Teacher if we can have it back and explain the situation but so far that has not happened.
