Getting close. If all goes to plan I will gain over 10 hours to myself a week from not needing to travel and save £80 on fuel and whatever other wear and tear costs there are. Don’t think I will ever go 100% car free but I plan to reduce usage by 90 to 95% over now.

That looks like a 6 core CPU with hyper threading for 12 threads. Came out first quarter of 2010. I guess you could have x2 CPU's for 24 threads

The product is great and rarely has any problems, but Customer Services is terrible. No Traffic management on the 50meg package and I never had any problems with Traffic management on the 20meg package. Virgin often give out free speed upgrades.

Take a look at Inclusive Technology - All The Help You Need they have a lot of alternative mouse options and if you ring up and explain the clicking problem I am sure they can help. I always liked Typing of the dead myself. Ok it’s more of a game but it keep the children interested, is challenging typing wise and has mini games focusing on your weak keys, accuracy scores, time trails. But I don’t think it was networked. For very young children there is “Type with Tizzy” We also use 2Simple Software - Making simple, powerful & creative educational software - 2Type

One of our staff members has been complaining MS word takes 10 minutes to save and the laptops randomly freeze’s. To cut a long story short the laptop works 100% in school but when at her house the problems appear. Turn off her wireless broadband and the laptop works 100% again. Other laptops work fine at her house; I can find no spyware or any other problems. At a total loss, anyone got any ideas? The DELL Latitude D520 model PP17L is not on a domain and I tried driver updates.

Our secondary school is on 2meg and often capped out. What I find crazy and never really understood is why schools internet connection are so slow. I can get a 50meg download at home for a fraction of the price of what our school pays. Why can EMBC and others not offer schools similar packages to what you can get a home. I would love something like a 10, 20 or 50meg download and 2 or 5 meg upload at work. Is it the upload speed that costs so much? Filtering software, something else? Why not cut the price down by only boosting download speeds. Do we really need upload speeds to match download for every school?

A short while ago there was no end game content. Now there is a small amount but not enough for an MMO. Of the top of my head there are 4 STF’s (Special Task Force) these are missions that are impossible to do solo. You have to have 5 people and take a while. Sort of like raids in other games. There is an accolade system, basically achievements. Explore 100 sectors, get a title. Kill 500 borg get a title and bonus power. That’s about it until the season two update in July. Personally I do not like the STF’s The concept is good but the balance and fun factor is not 100% right yet.

It’s differently a casual MMO. One you dip into and out of for a few hours. If you are looking to spends hours upon hours a night like you would in some other MMO’s then STO isn’t a good choice. I estimate it would take 30 to 60hours to do all the missions in STO and hit max level.

I know some schools do have problems with ICT investment but many schools do have good ICT investment and the money has been used wisely. As for a 10 year planned strategy. We don’t do that as we don’t believe it’s wise, at least not in detail. Sure a 10 year rolling replacement plan perhaps but not a full strategy. IT changes too much to predict 10 years ahead. How many would have predicted today accurately 10 years ago? As we have been properly managed and had good investment I don’t believe a budget cut for a few years at least would have to much of an impact. For the next few years all we need to do is a rolling replacement.

“1 hour interview with e-safety coordinator & network manager (together);” We had an Ofsted a short while back and that never happened. Not that it would have been a problem if it did as we do a lot of E-safety. As the Internet Safety officer and IT/Network Manager Ofsted never spoke to me.

The only thing I was told was Faster connection speeds and one aim was to have one login to access Wired, Fronter and Email. I was not aware any changes needed to be made to our networks. I thought it was all web based with one network ID to access all the different NottsCC websites.
