Many people do. Need for Speed Shift, GTA, Deadspace and even Sims 3 are pretty popular on tablets. Heat, battery life are not really a problem for tablets with docking stations. product size is a plus to tablets. With the way development and R&D goes the gap is getting shorter. This generation was the first time mobiles over took consoles in graphic power. If current technology trends are as expected future mobiles will catch up to consoles half way through the next gen console life span and spend the 2nd half of the lifespan ahead of the consoles. This might be the tipping point. The gen after if there is one for consoles the gap will be even shorter. If you look at the R&D company’s we are already seeing the start of advance technology like Ray tracing being developed for mobiles. Console are not expected to have for over 10years in the generation after next. This could lead to crazy situation when in 5 to 6 years current console will be half way though there life span with mobiles looking far better graphically. I think I might be derailing this thread, didn’t mean to. One thing I do agree on is always on connection is bad. My experience with that has been nothing but bad. Mobiles over took 10 year old PC’s years ago. Last gen chips where only a tiny bit behind the Xbox360. The 2013 mobile chips I believe are due to be x3 faster than the Xbox360 in power and are only a few years behind PC’s. Graphics Company’s R&D no longer scale down larger chips to mobile level but develop from mobile level upwards. The rate of mobile technology advance has been amazing recently.

Not sure it is out of context and it will not be a sudden case of completely abandoning consoles, it will be a very slow change over of peoples habits. No one in my circles users consoles as the primary gaming platform anymore. Many have already abandoned them or use them as secondary gaming devices for the odd exclusive game. Granted the sample size is far too small but I can see more people going down this path. Handholds have already gone futher down then road. We have gone from a school inhabited by a PSP’s and DS’s to smartphones. As more of those children grow up and use those devices connected to TV’s will they even want or need a console? You say you cannot see the hardcore gaming community change but why? If the controller is the same, the games looks just as good or better than current gen, the setup is easy to use then why would they refuse to cross over? The world is moving to a big mash network with everything connected to everything and computers being devices you carry around with you. Too me the question is not when, but how long will this take. That is no different from Skype on the PC or voice chat on a console and you can always switch to gaming mode or use a tablet over a smartphone.

It has already happened with many "real" gamers converting. See You have console graphics, console gameplay, console controller. So why by a console? It is more why get an extra device (console) when your phone or tablet has enough power to do the job just as well? The upcoming 2013 gen of chips will be more powerful then todays consoles. Tablet/phone today are designed to output for games just as much as consoles so why buy a 2nd device (console) to do a job you already have in your pocket. We are slowly getting to the stage where you not need a PC or console. Just carry around a smartphone that fits into a docking station or wirelessly transmits to a keyboard, mouse and HD screen. This is how I see the future over the years to come. It will be a very slow change but it should happen over time. I already see lots of people watching TV via tablets/phones with on demand style services and playing games to the HD TV.

We have Windows 7 here. Is it worth PMing me your email and sending our exe file? Although it is not the newest one with the fix. But perhaps compatibility mode will work with our exe. Our version is 3.0.0.48, file size 1.89meg. EDIT: Thinking about it we also used a reg key while doing the fix. But that was more to insert the S/N's

Immersive are in administration and we fixed the problems by setting the exe all users to compatibility mode XP SP3.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking surly part of the hardware profile is the motherboard, network card and MAC address? Even if it’s not being sent across the internet, local hardware is being used to identify computers for some online shops like Steam or Itunes. Changing the motherboard and network cards would be more than enough to make the hardware profile invalid. Perhaps the article writer was wrong about the Mac address but I think he was on the right idea that changing the network card and motherboard was what triggered the fraud protection.

I thought some online shops build up a profile up with your local IP and MAC address. Steam for example records your local network card and MAC address doesn’t it? You cannot buy items from a different new PC and new network card. Out of curiosity when websites build a profile off your PC what info do they store?

I am a bit confused about some saying this is utter garbage. Whenever I change my spending habits either from a different computer, different locations or even different spending habits I get that phone call. The fraud people ring up and check everything is ok. Like many of you I have a home network and shopping from my normal computer is ok but the secondary computer can cause problems with extra security checks needed to buy items. So I can fully believe a situation where someone at his house went on the computer with the new motherboard and network card. The websites no longer register the computer as the normal computer so all the extra security checks activate. The fraud team spot the unusual activity from a new computer stop your card and ring up. What most likely happened is another family members who is used to 1 click shopping got an extra security question to fill in and did not know what to put, failed the check and the card went into lockdown. Like I said at the start it happen to me before more then once.

Only ever replaced one and that was due to a full room revamp. With no real moving parts they should have a long life span so I see no reason to replace something that works 100%. As long as there is a spare or mobile projector I see no reason to put IWB on a rolling replacement. That worst that should happen is you control the system via the computer for a week while a replacement is ordered.

Both of these are pretty long shots but could it be the local network adapter has an alternative or fixed IP that for some reason is running as DHCP on admin but alternative/fixed for users? Try renaming default user and make a new temp account. It could be all the new users are pulling something from the local default user folder.

We allow it mostly for teaching safe use and showing how to setup privacy settings. But it is only works when staff log into emails accounts to make staff filtering active. That filtering times out after 20 to 30mins.

One simple yet effective feature I like is setting any duplicate printouts within 10seconds to be deleted. Stops all those double clicks when the person only wanted 1 copy or worse a double click on an 80 page document.

I would estimate Papercut paid for its self within 6 to 12 months for us. It helped us go from 75% printouts being colour to 75% being B&W. Print usage only reduce 3% ish but that is more due to our settings.

I can sort of see how someone might think that even if it is not correct. I guess his logic goes assuming you do enough roles/draws that every number combination appears once then if you have a fixed number you would overtime win 100%. But if you pick a random number each time then you could even after every number combination has appeared once still have never won. If you simplify it down to dice. If you pick the 2nd number (your fixed ticket) and role 1 dice the chance to match is 1 in 6. If you role two dice to represent random number and random ticket the chance to match is 1 in 36. EDIT: Just released I wrote the wrong odds! random V random should be a matching pair so 1 in 6. But you have the tiny possibility of drawing every number combination and not getting a match. So the odds are the same but fixed numbers each week have a tiny advantage.

We use Nottscc Netsweeper and although it’s fully blocked from desktops PC’s and laptops Facebook apps on phones have full access even without a proxy.

There is an issue now that smartphones/tablets and apps are all common. We had a student find out the wireless key via unmasking the pass phrase, add there smartphone then use apps to browse Facebook even though Facebook is blocked in the filters.

I guess that is a tricky one to answer and the line is something everyone needs to decide and it depends on what area you live as well. One way to do it is to assume there is an Evacuation notice and you have 5mins to leave your home and you know there is no chance to get back within days or a week. What would make life easier during those days? Having a bag pre packed with spare cloths, small amounts of money, basic items and photocopies of paperwork would be a great start in my mind. When you have to leave fast it can be the little things like having a spare jumper to wear in the cold that make all the difference.

It’s always a good idea to have a ready made emergency bag that you can quickly pick up. Spare cloths, photocopies of impotent documents and other essentials. It is not a bad idea to have a box of long life emergency food as well. All cheap and easy to setup yet so few people bother as they think they will never need it.

Thats a pretty good comment from over at DM. I do not mean to be picky but it’s a cloud which means it’s an object and since when do clouds not fly? Isn’t flying pretty much all clouds do? That and make us wet sometimes.

64-bit here and the only real problem was the basic Sims installer wouldn’t work. But once installed Sims works fine. The only other problem we ran into was IE 64-bit and no flash support but that has no longer a problem.
