I thought cleaners etc where already outsourced. caretakers not heard anything about them being outsourced. What next outsource teachers and TA's? Why not the Head while they are at it.

We ban repeat offenders off the Internet and if they are bad we change their password so teachers have to log them on. When the teacher has to log on the student they normally remember to keep an eye on them. At least in theory.

When a teacher or TA goes on maternity leave do you let them keep the laptop or ask for it back? The way I understand it, is the staff member doesn’t have to say if they are coming back or not right away.

The school would need adequate documentation to be able to continue working.” My IT Co-ordination has all the major passwords; my PDA contains all the minor passwords. One reason I never did a full documentation is we are a small school and it’s pretty easy for anyone to figure out the network. We have 1 server, 1 cabinet, 1 domain. I figure any decent IT tech with the passwords could figure out how our system works. We do have a document on IP range and how it works. But no map of network switch’s e.c.t It all comes down to the size of the school. If it’s a massive secondary school I can see the need to map out the network. The smaller the school the less need of a map.

Only the basics are recorded. The only time I do a full map/document is when I leave.

Create a HTML webpage as a desktop background only store the webpage on the server so it doesnt work outside school. Works well for us. I can upload some of ours as examples if it helps.

We still have 3 Acorns (A7000's) for the more severe disabled children as they can do pretty much anything and until today never break it. One restart later and it all works. Today Oxford reading tree level 5 starts giving an error message. Internal error no stack for trap handler. Illegal instruction PC=021446cc: Register at 0003A80C any ideas what this means or how to fix it? I tried reinstalling the program which is about all I can do on an Acorn. No luck.

In facts its on my timetable. As they are behaviour children can I argue they place an emotional demand on me so I shouldn’t be classed as a level 1?

Eevery school I have been to doesn’t want or need video conferencing and loads of other stuff that’s good for businesses but not needed for schools. But they are forced to pay for it. Does anyone actually use video conferencing and if you have was it a one off event? Just look at broadband you get a slow 2 or if your lucky 4meg download speed yet pay something crazy like 1000% more then a home 20meg connection. Yet 90% of us would be better off with a 20 or 50meg download speed and not haveing all the unused extras. Just because something is at the forefront of technology doesn’t mean it belongs in a school. Technology should move forward but we shouldn’t be implanting Technology just because its at the forefront of Technology.

Depends on the problem but email most of the time. To many times with the phone I waste time spelling out email address's, building address's, passwords or codes. If its an RMA with an address to email every time. Printer problems chat based screens can be nice.

I used to sell tons of horse stuff starting at 50p only last month I found out that was below the minimum new auction amount. Paypal is a pain unless you respend the money on Ebay. The fees to transfer money back to your bank are too high. Saying that overall I like ebay managed to get some semi rare stuff I wouldn’t have found otherwise.

After reading a recent threads I started to realise just how useful a VPN could be and started to set one up. Only after setting it up I realised there are data issues. Although I can access any computer at work I would now be able to do the same from home, but that’s the not the main problem. The main problem is child data, are there any guidelines or laws on this? My worry is one of the admin staff might leave their computer on at home logged in unsupervised. Is an AUP enough saying doesn’t leave your self logged in? I guess in some respects it’s no different then taking a laptop home to work on. Searching Becta wasn’t much help all I found are technical documents on what VPN is.

Two of our computers some how had windows updates enabled and the updated program download and installed half way though the lesson. Unlike normal there was no reboot later option. Pretty disruptive having your computer reboot half way though a lesson.

Nothing here but then again I have pretty much all automatic updates turned off. More so for our Dell laptops where leaving windows updates on causes the CPU to spike at 90 to 100% which in turn makes the laptop very sluggish to use.

I got one during my transition to full time. When they offered my fulltime I wasn’t sure so they bumped the wage up. Not a lot but enough to make it realise they appreciated what I do and wanted me here.
