  1. Hi all Just about to sign on the dotted line to change from OVS A1 to EES A3. One thought I've had is Windows 10/11 activation. How does per machine activation occur if licences are per user? I assume it no longer accepts a mak key for activation? Does it just activate the first time a licenced user uses it? Is there a limit to this? (for example a licenced service account installs a room full of PCs)
  2. This is something we want to look at next once I'm happy with our internet. Whats the best guide for fully embracing Onedrive for files?
  3. This is an interesting one Steam owner Valve accused of ripping off 14m UK gamers - BBC News The person behind this is someone who "advises" on children's digital health, has done government panels amongst other things but is now wanting to sue Valve for anti competition? To me it seems a bit odd.
  4. Hi all More of a poll really. Do you sync your MIS pictures to o365/Google? It's part of the automated sync tool we now have but when I suggested it I was taken back by the vitriol in the replies! You'd think we were leaking personal information on the dark web. So just seeing if anyone else does it..
  5. Never had to install a separate database, seems like extra work
  6. Previous poster said "HP/Aruba are just to darn expensive to recommend for the vast majority of schools"
  7. Are Aruba switches decent enough though? Is it worth spending more money for reliability etc over ruckus?
  8. Once setup, I've not really had to touch ours, however if anything does come up, its been hard to implement a solution due to lack of knowledge or finding someone who knows. I had a core power supply go pop a while back and it took a while and lot of phone calls to try and find one. Also while looking at a new network solution, hardly anyone has mentioned or said they support Extreme. I think they're suited more for big business.
  9. We had Extreme installed in 2014. Had 4 out of 20 switches go pop since. A couple were POE issues. Wi-Fi controller and aps that came with it were rubbish and we changed to something else asap. Support woeful and management side not great either (that wasnt XIQ though, its Netsight which was the previous software). I asked around for an Extreme specialist for an issue and they were much more expensive than Aruba etc . So I'd say solid devices but a lot of caveats and enough for me to look elsewhere (as we are now doing)
  10. I'm currently doing a ten year plan, going through the DFE standards, detail rolling replacements, EOL dates etc Where do people think we will be in ten years? Mostly, if not all, serverless? Literally everything subscription based? Desktops powered by POE? Wi-Fi 8/9?
  11. Yeah I've been looking at Microsoft Config Manager as a replacement as it'll have to be used at some point down the road.
  12. Just read this. It feels like its an unstoppable war of attacks. Has anyone shut down all remote access for fear of this?
  13. Hi all I'm starting to lose my patience with Smoothwall. I am wanting to share this to see if someone has experienced anything familiar and can help. We had an S8 box replaced with an S9 in the last week of last half term and the migration was done by a Smoothwall employee remotely, who frankly, seemed to struggled a little bit. Everything seems to work apart from accessing the Internet on the Guest Wi-Fi. Internet works fine on our regular staff/student Wi-Fi network. The Guest Wi-Fi network is setup on its own 172 subnet. We have a cambium cloud-based Wi-Fi solution. When you connect to the guest SSID, you are redirected to a cambium guest portal. The S8 works fine but the S9 doesn't, just get page cannot be displayed or hangs as if after connecting to the SSID it cannot find the Internet. Now I seem to be going around in circles with Smoothwall and I am now at the back of the queue having to explain the situation again to a first line employee, even though I'd say this was an incomplete and failed migration and it needs to skip this level and be looked at properly. Anyone experienced similar or have any additional contacts for this? I have already tagged in the Head of Delivery and others but only option apparently was to log a ticket.

    Insomnia i72

So the company behind Insomnia have entered liquidation, website has gone, Insomnia is no more..
  16. Everyone will probably have the same answer Enviro Electronics
  17. Does 10>11 work fine for you as an in place upgrade? I was just going for a proper reimage as I assumed there would be issues.
  18. We're looking to change from OVS A1 to EES A3 shortly. We are near the end of our 3 years. Does anyone know if you have to give any kind of notice? or do these just run out? I'd ask our supplier but BIST have been liquidated!
  19. For other people who have had the email but do not have the option to downgrade (and even when chat support say you're already on basic, so you're fine), check a few days later as its suddenly appeared! If I had taken support by its word, we would have been liable a couple weeks later.
  20. Why Azure and not Entra?
  21. I've used clipchamp at home for some youtube editing and it was absolutely rubbish. Canva was much easier and nicer to use.
  22. Just to double check, Is this saying only those who are a client in the tenant can send emails using the organisations domain name? I want to set all this up but want to make sure I'm not cutting anyone out who wants to send work emails from home.
  23. Yeah my thinking is if I can be smart with how Veeam is setup and make it last until we hopefully start migrating to cloud storage, then I won't need to make a case for splashing out..
  24. I'm at that stage with Veeam where I'm trying to get the most out of the storage I have. The server was previously setup as a RAID6 and has 13tb available. This is leaving 1tb free after backing up 7 servers. The biggest two are the staff and student fileservers, these are typically 2.5tb backups each as it does one full backup a week. I'd be interested to know how much storage space you have given your backup servers? I was looking to increase ours but that's going to end up expensive.
  25. Hi all Spoke to Impero support but they weren't able to assist really. We want to have email notifications for students only. At the minute we have email alerts for entire network, however if you try and set it up for a low priority group only (we have one called students) it says entire network overrides this (well its in charge of global settings, so that makes sense it'll be the highest priority) Has anyone else been able to suss this out?
