  1. We stream Sims using RDWEB services. Tablets/phones work fine, though some phones a bit small for the full Sims window.
  2. Synology DS216 or DS416 plus 8TB drives at another site. Pay once.
  3. We use a “paint” pen (Amazon). Basically a thick felt pen that writes with paint. Scruffy handwritten on the back, including batteries and removable covers. You can’t clean it off, even with those green scratty kitchen scourers!
  4. We use Gigasoft as they are uk and DFE approved. Not cheap, so we use for business critical. For bulk, we have a NAS at another school, with ip Control so that it can be addressed from limited locations (two other fixed ips). Works well and automated. Keep user data weekly, and server backup images. Cheap bulk storage, and runs weekly, spread over the nights.
  5. We used security screws. I bought 40mm which is far too long, but more of a deterrent as it takes longer... more likely to be observed! Much better than the half dozen turns of the thumbscrew (hmm, thumbscrews. There’s an idea.)
  6. I have it as well. It has drainage holes on a 100mm grid, but weeds can grow through - so ensure good weed fabric underneath.
  7. Parallels access
  8. Forgot to say, same - no warranty on 2011 servers, but used these as suppliers, including upgrading ram at sensible prices.
  9. If you have to cheaply buy parts, try Rock Hall Ltd. they are a deconstructor I'd really recommend. Found them on eBay but they are a proper vat registered company .
  10. I suspect that what you want to do might be a 'doddle' to achieve! If it is, please PM me and I'll tell you what we do.....
  11. We add our TAs to Timetable, but you have to ensure the 'real' teacher is listed as main..... or everyone gets confused!
  12. I add 'z' to the front of old template names to throw them to the end of the list. That way I can always go back. Remove the classes, and make inactive.
  13. My EO said it was needed now to prepare for results asap. We installed it, with no problems, and with a happy EO. (We have sixth form, and run BTECs. That may be the urgency)
  14. Rock Hall Ltd are also useful for parts, RAM etc. They are a deconstructor we found via EBay, and whilst our rules prohibit eBay purchases, they will take POs, and are properly vat registered etc.
  15. Also, use InSsider application to look around your estate, or WiEye on an android phone...
  16. Just read many items... 1-5-9-13 is most definitely NO. We had a neighbour using Ch8 which killed two of our channel ranges with interference. Ubiquiti, yes. Sold through Euro_DK based in Latvia (I think). Had good support for purchases. Also, look at their website [Euro dk] and see the other Ubiquiti offerings..... I bought an outdoor Ubiquiti for under £100 and ran streaming video on a laptop at over 100 metres. Most impressed. Covers our whole yard at a secondary school. They run mesh etc... No brainier with the money we have now....
  17. We have run Teacher App for a while, and found it good. We started on the Parent App pilot and also found it good - as well as being so much better than SLG. My Head has accepted my recommendation this weekend to launch Parent App with our new intake in September, and then to roll it through the rest of the school.
  18. We had a couple of wireless visualisers that were causing interference by being on the wrong channel. I use Inssider to monitor the environment.
  19. Phil, did I read somewhere that SLG will be phased out in favour of the new Parent App? Incidentally I am proposing to our Head that we run from the SLuG as I think it is awful (and has become flaky) and push Parent App now as it is really really good and overcomes many of the complaints our parents have......
  20. We've just installed one due to vandalism by students.... ridiculous having to do this! Covered by the same policy, managed by Premises Manager.
  21. [email protected] Coin units £14 to reprogram. Doing two now for New£ only with old disabled. Leaving two on round£. Dropping to just two revals as we are pushing ParentPey. Also buying two note units with old fiver disabled. Local for us, Bolton; but still not dear by post.
  22. Synology for us too. When we found the features available at their price point, we were surprised more didn't use them....
  23. If any vendor's kit was bad, they'd no longer be trading! We were delivered a Cisco network under BSF, yet have added some non-C kit quite happily. We have no qualms whatsoever.
  24. We're drifting away from ActivMan as it does become flaky at times wrt permissions and leavers/rejoiners (such as Supply staff). We've budgeted for Salamander from April.
  25. Linx windows tablets. 10" and 2GB RAM. you can map drives, but don't let it download/upload Profiles all the time.
