    We took up Parent App to replace the (some would say..) hateful SLG. It has been well received by our parents, and it also works in a browser. We tested on everything including Chrome app on iPads and Android devices, and all achieved what our parents needed. Our main focus was publishing termly reports as PDF, and it is popular. We never considered roll out to students, although it will come - local decisions really, because students are not allowed phones in school, hence it’s not been rolled out. We also mail reports via InTouch. We trialled Teacher app, but they rarely used it.

    We went to VM through Excellgroup as our provider. Good news was that we retained or public ip addresses by remaining with the same provider even though we effectively move to VM

    In another life, a corporate document was printed in black on purple so that it couldn’t be photo-copied in departments.... just passed round to read. So the manager had the secretary copy type it......

    We apply 750 (2ft 6in) which is about a single door width, in terms teachers understand! We have a sixth form, so our rooms must cater for adult sized users as well as 11 year olds...

    And the teachers who let three students leave the classroom to “find a technician” when only one of them needs a reset.... and often in the last 15mins of a lesson..... some teachers need sorting out as well!

    Brother MFC2700W is cheap to buy and run. Can wireless print from iPad as well as from home PC network. Scan/copy is also useful for me.

    And it’s wonderful. Our parents love it (and much more than SLG). We also use In-Touch so that we both mail and publish assessment reports.

    Unfortunately, harder than that.. When you insert the links into the individual report template, you select the date range instead of a result set. Yes, many links and rebuild your report every time. I also make a combined Y12/13 report for the whole sixth form as they are often timetabled across both years. In terms of running reports remotely, I use a RD app to run a real onsite PC as it often refers to “the C drive” so you need to effectively be on site. I actually RD directly on the server - depends on your role... I am Sims manager and manage the network, so I can!

    Agree with a great deal of this. The devil is in the detail. I have been charged with carrying out our audit, but not yet been given any mandate to seek out “grey data”; and I’m sure that will be one of or biggest problems. Yes, we need to get teachers to understand what constitutes personal data, how ever the biggest issue I’ve ever found in education is that some teachers feel they are above the law and wouldn’t necessarily divulge to a ‘non-teacher’ what they are holding. This is a big issue for management.

    Sixth form, a pain. I always report on actual result dates, such as 1Sep to 30Nov2017 so that I don’t have last year’s data for repeaters. It’s the only way as many students seem to sped three years in the Sixth Form...

    Don’t they all play the same game? Never in stock at their own warehouses, but in stock within central distribution. When I wanted a large number of an item, I had three suppliers effectively quoting the same stock! So there wasn’t enough in the supply chain....

    Look at contingency of buying second user with high spec RAM. We use Rock Hall Ltd. they have an eBay site, but will also deal direct, proper vat receipts etc (that our finance rules demand)

    Had this before. There is usually a relay on the motherboard that switches between mains and battery. If this fails, you won’t feed power from your adaptor. Some local fixers will change these.

    Buy “freezer grade” labels, similar to the outdoor ones used in garden centres. But what we did was to buy “paint pens” to write on them.

    We have AVAYA IPO on ISDN30/8 but our newish model will only take 6 VM channels, so you can appear ‘broken’ to the 7th inbound call at peak times. Also, but supposedly not a point for concern was that Avaya went into (from memory) chapter 11 administration. Still operating but looking for a buyer, but supposedly too big to be allowed to die?

    We’ve had CPOMS for a few years now. The staff find it easy to use, and it does what they need. Easy to set up on Sims server, and ive really not looked at it since. It just works.
