Given the time constraints, I might generate notebooks and populate them using o365 groups to avoid confusion and tell people not to activate their teams notebooks. I have a large number of technophobic staff who are already nearing meltdown. Teams looks brilliant but without proper training it could tip people over the edge!

Dear All, As we frantically move to online learning I have a couple of questions/checking my understanding, hopefully somebody might be able to help. We have done the self-onboarding to link SIMS and O365. My understanding is this creates O365 Sharepoint Groups for each class. I can indeed see these groups via sharepoint (although we seem to have some duplicates). Once you have a sharepoint group it has associated with it a Team site (I can also see these). Now, when in Teams I see that there is automatically a class notebook that can be activated. This all seems brilliant and well thought through, but here is where my question starts: The O365 Groups take the name from the timetable on SIMS 10S/Ph1, etc, this makes sense, but what will happen if a teacher has spent time putting loads of resources into a class notebook and getting it very organised and then the name of the class changes (which it always seems to do) as the timetable is rolled on to the next academic year. Will it be easy to move the Content in the onenote class notebook from one sharepoint site to another? I ask because I am trying to get staff set up with class notebooks for taking in work over the near future and don't want their effort to go wasted. The alternative is to manually create notebooks for teachers and then use the groups to populate the students in the book. I fear this will cause confusion though as they start using teams and seeing the class notebook on there! Sorry for the length of my question, hopefully someone can help, Martyn

Hi Thanks, I have added more columns onto my lookup table and it is now producing some data. However, the data is being pulled from the wrong age column! A pupil who is 15 y 02 m is getting data from the 11/01 column??

Hi, Maybe I am going about things in the wrong way! I would like to turn % into grades for a set of marksheets. I know there is a % to grade formula but it seems incredibly clunky to use as I have 10 tests convert on a marksheet and I have to type in the grades manually each time (or produce a different set of gradesets for each subject and year group). So I thought I could use a lookup table for each subject as in the enclosed example. However, when I try and use this to put data into any aspect (marks/decimal, marks/integer/ grades) I get nothing. I use a column containing %s which is of type marks/decimal as the source for the calculation. I cannot see where I am going wrong? But it is probably something dumb on my part. Thanks Martyn

I would like to be able to create templates outside of SIMS using XML. I can download a template from the system and edit it and reimport. If I were to use this to create future templates is there anything special that I need to do in terms of creating IDs (is there a naming system or is it okay to adopt my own Date_Time based system?). Also will an uploaded template create new aspects if they don't already exist or do I have to create them separately? I just find the template creation mechanism on SIMS very clunky especially for formula generation and thought that this might be quicker. Thanks in advance, Martyn

Hello, My school currently uses SIMS and O365; however, the two are not joined together and teachers have to create their own groups which, although we are a small school, seems terribly inefficient. I came across school data sync which looks like a way to go - my question is how easy is it to set up with SIMS? It looks like I need to generate csv files to import into SDS. My IT people aren't particularly proactive and said it looked like a big job! I suggested Salamander School Data Sync (https://www.salamandersoft.co.uk/sds/) but again they seemed to think that this would not be too easy. I'm not sure if I am being fobbed off, so am looking for some advice from others that have probably done this already. I am not an IT specialist and am not sure about the O365 side of things (ie the active directory stuff) but I have a reasonable knowledge of SIMS. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Martyn
