  1. Good evening all, Hope you're well. We're having a strange problem at School but only with Year 6 iPad Mini (which they take home and bring it to school everyday), some (at random) iPads would refuse to resolve to Internet however resetting the network settings under Settings option would bring back the ability to connect to Internet. The affected iPad would show wireless connection fine, is connected to our Access point fine and I can see it from our portal however no activity shown on our Smoothwall as if it is switched off. Restarting the iPad doesn't work, clearing cache wouldn't work either. I have set the lease time to 600mins but that didn't make any difference. The issue is, 60+ iPads would be working fine and then all of a sudden 3-4 iPad mini would refuse to resolve unless I reset the network settings and bring back the activity. My query is, what else can I do to narrow down the issue please? or even better, resolve it once and for all. Your kind input would be highly appreciated. Kindest regards J.

  3. Firstly you got to be very good at what you're doing, a very strong Personnel, student data record, claims, accounts, budgeting etc. understanding before moving away from packages that are already running in the School. FMS is boring and dated system but it works, although not as good as Sage but you'll find to be stuck with high costs with Sage than SIMS at a long run. Regards J.
  4. Can they do this? https://youtu.be/anHasqFguCM We would like to create immersive setup for our main school hall like shown in the video (by MagicLeap). Here you can also look at the following company http://immersivelearning.co.uk/demo-video/ Kindest regards J.
  5. We use Smoothwall here and have no issues, dynamic filtering is their big plus however I'd say if you know what you're doing (technically) then you can go for Smoothwall. Two issues I have found with SW are, their support is a bit clunky and reporting is not that great even though they promised to improve it in their next release (Inverness), only time will tell. I'd also go for S8 upwards appliance. Nevertheless, Lightspeed could be a good contender when it comes to all in one package as they have their web filter (Rocket) at the same time have MDM, this could be highly useful if you ever go to mobile device management route. With SW you will have to either go Meraki MDM, Apple Profile manager and School manager or something else which would mean managing multiple systems with multiple companies. Never used iBoss or others so cannot say much about them. Regards J.
  6. We use KMs here and all being well, print quality is amazing. I've setup user boxes for everyone and mapped them on their MacBooks along with account track. The only issue I have is their inability to produce good automated reports. The reporting feature is not user friendly and the.txt file export has to be played around with before making a sense. So if you're looking for good solid high quality machines and not too much worried about reporting then KM can play a vital role. I am meeting them on 9th, let me know (PM me your details) if you want me to pass your details to them. Regards J.
  7. If you are happy with your provider then why change or look for alternatives? Comparison would be worthwhile if you really want to either move away or neutrally compare....
  8. Smoothwall has been fine for us too but yes reporting awful. I ran a custom report on an IP address 10.x.x.x between 01/02/17 to 24/02/17 and it crashed twice before it produced the report which I converted in PDF, 61Mb in size. Not a presentable report to higher management. I also struggle to setup reports be send to email directly. I am counting on Inverness to fix some of the major issues including reporting. At the end of the day higher management and parents (if they ask for it) need simple to understand reports and quick, not in 5hrs or more. Kindest regards J.
  9. Thank you for sharing the link jslate1980 Kindest regards J.
  10. What about when you have minimum quantities i.e. less than 20 or 30 devices/products? Any Company near or around Gloucestershire? Many thanks Kindest regards J.
  11. Afternoon all, I am looking for an advise on an online payment system for our School, payments for School Dinners, Unifroms, other School products, Events and Activties, Breakfast and After School clubs etc. I've looked at Tucasi, SchoolComms and SIMS Agora but could not find any comparison chart that would compare them. I'd like to know if you use any of them in your School? Do they cover everything as mentioned above and how well they integrate with SIMS.net and FMS? Any prefrence to one over others and why please? Your kind help/advise will be highly appreciated. Kindest regards J.
  12. You wouldn't need to update the clients separately, once you've done update on the server, it will automatically update the client machines. Here is information on SIMS Reports (Post update task) Importing SIMS Reports Included in every release of SIMS are an updated set of Predefined reports. To ensure your system has the latest reports available, it is essential to import the reports following the steps below. 1.Open SIMS 2.Click on Reports | Import 3.Click on the Open/browse button and locate the SIMS installation path (typically C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net) 4.Highlight Predefined_Reports_.RptDef and click on Open 5.Click on Import You can locate your SIMS version number by logging into SIMS and selecting Help | About which will list your new version number. Automatic Updates for AMPARK If there are updates to AMPARK available, a screen will appear when a user with Assessment Co-ordinator access rights first enters Assessment following the upgrade. Click Yes. It is recommended that Assessment users do not make changes to a spects or templates while this process takes place. Follow the screen prompts and the AMPARK resources are imported. The content of the import will vary with the type of school. The appropriate Key Stage files will be imported and Primary schools will have the option of importing the new Programme of Study Tracking Resources. This process will only take place after an update to AMPARK and will only need to be undertaken once for all workstations to use the materials. The usual report of the imported material concludes the process. Kindest regards J.
  13. Thanks Jamman960, Would we have to contact our SIMS Support for this or LA? Kindest regards J.
  14. Thanks David for your quick and kind reply. Do you mean I will have to rename all photos first and then use the routine procedure to bulk upload the photos? Wouldn't be twice as much work as now I will have to rename all photos. Kindest regards J.
  15. Morning all, Hope everyone is doing well. We've had School photos taken last month (Nov) and now we'd like to add them onto our SIMS.net. I know we can upload them one by one but when you have 500+ staff and students you wouldn't want to do the task manually. So my query is, is there any method, script or application that allows bulk upload of photos onto SIMS.net? I've already put all photos into one folder, just need them to be uploaded onto SIMS.net. Many thanks in advance. Kindest regards J.
  16. We'd like to change all paper requests to electronic form as well. When is the AppMaker coming out? Kindest regards J.
  17. Firstly congrats on your new role. You don't need any special procedures, just make sure SOLUS 3.11xx is installed first and as other suggested, just make sure all services and machines are turned on and SIMS.net, FMS etc are not open. I did ours and it took about 30-45mins to update server and client machines. I would also suggest to email all users prior to run the setup/update - it is annoying when you're running the update and someone comes to you and say I can't 'login'. At that stage you want to break something on someone! No Yes Yes but I would suggest everyone leaving their machines on. No need, it will do it all by itself. No. You should update whenever the new update is released. You can contact SIMS Support and they'll tell you what's coming in the next update. You can also check it under MyAccount Don't know but one thing you need to do after the update, just make sure you update the reports too.
  18. Good evening all, Just wanted to let you know SIMS Autumn 2016 Release is out including Solus 3.11 update. Kindest regards J.
  19. We have VPP account setup and integrated with Meraki MDM so it wasn't the case of buying apps on managed IDs, it was just a case of pushing the apps on managed Apple IDs that I created using ASM. Nevertheless, the Apple's answer to classroom management was not as good as I thought (especially it is still under preview since Summer 2016).
  20. Thank you jcraig for your kind input. I would love to see the templates you have created and see if I can apply them in our environment if you don't mind sharing them. With regards to VPP Device assignment, this can only work in a paid Meraki version not the free one. We are one of the oldest account holders of Meraki (Free) version so I am running well over 200 iPads on it. The issue lies in Apple and not Meraki as once those Managed IDs were setup in ASM, when I tried to push the apps it came up with the error "The Apple ID cannot be used to make purchases". So I was stuck really
  21. Afternoon all,Is there anyway we can find a comparison chart between MDM providers, for example Meraki MDM vs LightSpeed Systems vs Jamf vs Sophos etc. I've found the following link [http://www.enterpriseios.com/wiki/Comparison_MDM_Providers] but would like something updated and more detailed.Kindest regardsJ.
  22. Hi James,When I read your thread I thought that's what I need too. We have Meraki(free), SIMS, Apple Configurator (1.7x) and we opted for Apple School manager last year summer (2016 summer) but unfortunately Apple School Manager didn't work for us. Mainly because (that's what I think) we use free version of Meraki so no option for device enrolment apps push instead it's based on Apple IDs. The Apple IDs were created in Apple School Manager, the iPads were setup as DEP and they sync nicely on Meraki but I could not install/push any apps onto the device(s). This created a massive issue and due to inability to push any apps I scrapped the idea.Although I am still optimistic to make this work somehow as the "teacher controlling students iPads" idea is the main reason why I opted for Apple School Manager. We get so many cases where students are simply either messing around on website playing games or unnecessarily opening different apps, changing settings like wallpaper or adding a accessibility options like Assistive mode. I wish Apple would allow admins to simply hide the settings app along with other Find Friends/Message etc. out from the iPads.P.S. I know we can use AC 2.x which allows restricting wallpaper change and some other settings but it doesn't allow us to restrict Accessibility modes or other key options like history deletion on Safari/Chrome. It also messes up the iPad Name size when we set the wallpaper on the iPad - the iPad Name appears too small and perspective zoom makes the whole wallpaper really pixelated.Kindest regardsJehanzeb
  23. I created profiles as student and staff, didn't create any blueprints. Plug the device and click restore after that rename the device and click prepare. Once done add profile, and Meraki will push and install all apps. My issue and a serious one is with the wallpaper and the little stupid device name which was perfect in AC1.7x. Mac OS ruined my 1.7x and now am trying to install Yosemite and re install 1.7x again Regards J.
  24. I found that out after upgrading to annoying MacOS. Would you know how can I migrate the Apple Configurator 1.72 profile onto my old MacBook with El Capitan on please? I have 1.72 on MacBook and I think the only way is to just migrate profile over to it from iMac and start using MacBook. Kindest regards J.
  25. Thank you Garacesh for your kind and prompt reply. The wallpaper has a high resolution I am using iOS 7 clouds wallpaper http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Aat6x-HJTt8/VTXHe4UlrVI/AAAAAAAAAR4/OJLxoUvnXnc/s1600/2572080-101@2x~iphone.png This was not the issue with AC 1.72, the wallpaper was setup perfectly fine with high resolution, I didn't change the wallpaper instead using the same. With regards to the name of iPad it was setup in bigger font size in AC 1.72 but with AC2 it is setup so tiny. Hence my willingness to go back to 1.72. I generated the Apple cert first time, back in '14 can't remember how to re generate. The proxy certificates from RM has a expiry date of 2030 and so as our SW filter but with Apple it's already expired. Thank you for the other responses, as with Apple TV is I found a way of setting up the name first and then hit prepare sets up the name of the device. Kindest regards J.
