  1. Hello danpitman2, Thank you for taking part in the discussion and reaching out to help. I did manage to find .dmg 1.20 from online but when I installed it, it never loaded, pop up message suggesting to update the google drive. Nevertheless, if you could kindly share the 1.20 installer I will it a try and see if it works. P.S. Even though I have opened the filtering for googledrive.com on our web filter it still doesn't resolve. This could also mean swgfl has to do something with it. I'll email them and check. Will update here... Regards J.
  2. Spoke too soon, second restart brought me back to the same point.....
  3. I think I cracked it. You need to update Yosemite to 10.10.3 combo update. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f115/jaytheguru/image.jpg1_3.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f115/jaytheguru/image.jpg2_2.jpg After an update and restart Google drive under Auto proxy discovery worked perfectly.
  4. https://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/drive/yeyWx00XR1k Here's the thread - it's been running since 2012. Google doesn't care...... Here's the version I am using http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f115/jaytheguru/image.jpg2_1.jpg Ok set the connection to direct connection while installation then click on the icon on right hand side top and click preferences --> Advanced a--> Proxies:auto detect. Until your on and not restarted the machine it will sync normally. Before restarting the machine set it back to direct connection
  5. Hello, I don't know what's wrong with it to be honest. While setting it up if I set the connection to 'direct connection' under advanced settings during installation it doesn't give error message but it doesn't sync either. If I set to 'auto proxy' it crashes with 3a36 error. Since we're using transparent proxy I can't turn it off and test the device. This issue is driving me crazy and there's no help out there. Regards J.
  6. Found a solution to this problem. While installing Google drive Desktop version, before clicking on Done click Advanced setup and under Advanded tab click Direct connection instead of Auto-detect. Once it's installed click on the top icon and go into preferences and change it back to Auto detect. Google will start to sync normally. Some might suggest it to be a proxy settings issue but I enabled all Google reference under proxy settings/web filter. It still didn't work until I did the above process. Kind regards J. Edit: back to square one!!!!! As soon as it restarted its back to same error.
  7. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f115/jaytheguru/image.jpg1_1.jpg Morning everyone, I am trying to install google drive on one of our teachers laptop, everything seems to work fine except Google drive Desktop version. It simple doesn't let me login. I've verified and fixed disk permissions, disconnect and reconnect the account, tried a different account but it simply wouldn't budge. The drive installs perfectly fine and loads ok, ask me to enter username and password and goes through the process of setting up Google drive but as soon as I hit Done it gives the error message (attached above). Did anyone experienced this error message and fixed it? It's driving me crazy. Kind regards J.
  8. Good afternoon everyone, hope you're doing well. QNAP TS-EC1280U-RP or Synology RS3614xs+ NAS - which one to go for? I am looking at both devices for our school but can't decide which one to go for. To me both are equally good hence finding it difficult to make a decision. My question is, has anyone used either of these devices and if yes, why did you prefer one over the other? Kind regards J.
  9. It installed even when I had 600MB of space left on one of the iPads (16GB wifi only), upgraded from 8.1.3. I usually put it on AC and press refresh to update it. It's a shame we can't push OS updates from MDMs. Regards J.
  10. Thanks strawberry, my hunt is on... Regards J.
  11. Morning strawberry, yes it is on. Regards J.
  12. morning everyone, I am trying to block Facebook from our school network and although it works perfectly fine on browsers (regardless of it being on Safari/Chrome or Firefox) it isn't blocking Facebook app from the iPads or iPhones. I looked at possible reference list of IPs online that Facebook use and block them but no luck. Also blocked all web addresses reference to Facebook including apps.facebook.com. Has anyone sorted this issue and would like to share it please? Regards J.
  13. I guess they spend more time 'threading' and less time searching.....
  14. Hmmm I didn't get any email like this, but does it mean we are going to be charged? Even if we are using standard version for quite sometime? I didn't understand when the passage says
  15. I read somewhere even if you create apple ids from the main website you can still get the none option but it's more of a hit and miss. Create an Apple ID and then go to ITunes old version 11, click redeem (important) enter username and password, it will take you to the form with none option. I found if you click on account it will not work, only clicking 'redeem' option works. Point to be noted, this doesn't work all the time. I usually give it a few hours break and try again and it works. Done 150 different accounts (hard work I tell ya)...
  16. I was going to create a new thread when I stumble upon this; we are in a similar situation but looking for our first ever NAS drive, our first step towards centralised and unified storage world. The above posts have been really helpful in knowing different options available. I've looked at the Synology, EMC, nimble, QNAP and Netapp. There's lots to sync in and find the right solution for the school. Still reading, still searching, still wondering....
  17. Morning rich_tech, thank you for your kind input. Yes I have installed Meraki systems manager on devices in addition to the association. One of the iPads that I randomly picked to check the positioning and why it was greyed out, it showed "update 2 days ago'. I clicked on "checked-in" and "refresh details" but no luck. The iPad is fully charged and sitting in front of me. I'll double check the ports. Many thanks Regards J. Update: I have requested for some of the ports open on our firewall for Meraki MDM and APNs. Here's a classic example, I randomly picked an iPad and it shows green status on MDM but the location is somewhere in Bathampton and we're in Tewkesbury and it shows ("via IP, updated 1 min ago").
  18. Good evening everyone, I keep getting some iPads status greyed out and their geographic location to some random place under Meraki MDM --> Monitor --> Clients. I have tried refresh and check-in but that didn't do anything. Some of the obvious things have been checked for example device is fully charged and doesn't have passcode. What am I missing and should do to make all iPads be 'online' and fix geographic location to realtime. Kind regards J.
  19. Back up and running, just pushed apps on to our Year 4 iPads. Regards J. Spoke too early: Error accessing VPP account **** VPP: The Apple VPP API is currently unreachable. If this message persists, you should contact Apple VPP support. Update: back on now again....
  20. Same here, found out when I tried associating and pushing apps to our Year 4 iPads. Regards J.
  21. Thanks Furby, I just found out all MacBooks (local admins and some users) have old printers installed with sharing on. So the printers list appears again and again. I have been going around school checking every single MacBook and removing old printer references. With regards to server, I looked at it and there were printers setup under workgroup manager --> groups there were old printers setup. It's not my setup unfortunately I inherited it from the previous IT guy. I don't think he knew what he was doing as everything I touch seems to have millions of problems appearing. Here's what I have done since my last post 1. Remove all printers instances from the server, checking all workgroup manager groups and users 2. Remove all instances from each MacBook (whichever I have managed to get my hands onto) 3. Run the script given above to remove all printers 4. Clear cache 5. Deleting com.apple.mcxprinting.plist (I don't know how to edit this list rather than deleting it each time. When I delete it then only I can see printers under Print & fax). 6. Once printer appears on the Print & fax, set it up as default (press and hold ctrl key and right click on the printer). 7. Logon to localhost:631 and check the printer list, also setup default printer to A4. The above has worked so far but the only way to find out if it is truly working is tomorrow when everyone comes back and login to their machines. Many thanks for the continuing support Furby. Best regards J. Update: I didn't have to wait until tomorrow as one of the user that I fixed MacBook earlier started to have same issue again. For example iMac7 user, I deleted all instances from machine and checked his name under the server workgroup manager. All clear, logged out from his machine and log back into it and all the annoying old list re populated again. This issue is driving me insane.
  22. Yes, I bought managed licenses directly from within Meraki VPP link. Click MDM -->VPP and then click on the link. Purchase licenses using the Apple VPP store . Licenses can be associated with a users's iTunes account after they have received and accepted a VPP invitation from your organization. Note: iOS devices can only use VPP licenses if they are running iOS7 or newer It's so much easier to push apps like this. One thing that I would like to add here though, pushing apps over the network does take some time and at times it misses one or two devices. So just bear that in mind and always check if some are missing. Re-push the missing apps and then refresh the page to see if all is done. Regards J.
  23. Morning Rob, Click VPP and under Licensed applications click on the app for example "solar walk"select the users you want to grant licenses, click "grant license to users" a message ( on top in green)will appear " successfully granted license". Go to Monitor --> clients and click the client and re-push the app. Or go to MDM --> Apps and repush to missing. Note: If you grant license to the user from VPP, it will appear under AppStore --> purchased (on iPad) but please do not install it from there. If you do you're going to have issues like what I am having now. It will appear in Meraki Installed (unmanaged) - you don't want that (I don't know how to remove "unmanaged" directly from MDM and I have created profile where users are not allowed to remove apps) In order to push the app after granting license is by going to MDM --> Apps look for the same app and push Re-push to all or missing. Please click on the option Remove with MDM and save (remove with MDM option would remove the app when MDM is removed). P.S. Forgot to mention the error appears because we didn't grant license to users to be able to use it under VPP
  24. The solution seems to be only temporary as when users restart their machines the problem appears again. I cannot understand why, I have tried logging onto a local admin user and remove printers using the script above. It removes the printers, which is fine but only until I am logged onto the laptop. Perhaps I have to login and logout of each and every user on the MacBook to make changes ? The server side I have deleted all the printers from the server using the same script. Not sure where these old printers are appearing from. Regards J.
  25. Furby you've been a great help. Thank you! I have printed a sheet with "how to" instructions for future reference. Many thanks once again Regards J.
