Since the server is on the same network and same subnet I am guessing it has the same public IP as our other devices but I will check it on Monday just to be sure. Kindest regards J.

I don't know if LA uses pool of public IPs but I can certainly send a request to SWG to set a public IP and point it to our static internal IP that I set for our cache server. Thank you for a quick reply Marshall. Yes it is under the same subnet. I went into stat and it only showed one high peak of 2mb and nothing else after that. The drive showed 1TB available. I will check it again on Monday. Kind regards J.

Well it says reaching to "this" public IP so I am guessing it is resolving to it. I have given static IP on our internal network. I have also added it with its MAC address under DHCP static route. I didn't set any reverse DNS or any a record for it though. Regards J.

Afternoon everyone, We were having a lot of bandwidth issues and after some digging I found that Phobos.apple.com service was using all our bandwidth. Kindly Aurthur in one of my posts mentioned to setup a caching server. I have bought OS X server 5 and installed it on our Mac mini, ran the cache service which shows the following Host name.local Computer name Internet: reachable on this public IP, no services available. Now the reach ability details showing green light and it resolves the IP but how can I find out if any of my downloads are being cached? For the past 6 hrs of running it says no services available. Am I doing something wrong? I can access the Internet and I did download some updates including El Capitan but I cannot see how our iOS devices and other macs are using caching service or not? Under permissions I have clicked only local subsets and matching this server network. Do I have to do anything else to make it work ? Any help will be highly appreciated. Kindest regards J

Morning everyone, We're having problems connecting iOS (iPads) with MacBooks and iMac via AirDrop. AirDrop works between MacBook to MacBook, iMac to MacBook but doesn't work from iPad to MacBook or iMac. We've tried disabling firewall but still no luck. We're using iOS 9.02 and mix of Yosemite plus El Capitan. Searching online showed Apple forum with 114 comments on a same issue, unfortunately without resolution. I am wondering if anyone here is experiencing or has experienced the same issue and how did you resolve it. Your kind help will be highly appreciated Kindest regards J.

Sorry that's what I meant, it has all services afp, DNS, DHCP, sub, NAS, od, web, VPN, software update etc in the list but not caching service Regards J

Morning everyone, We are having real issues with Apple update service in particular iTunes as Phobos.apple.com and other Apple update services are hogging our bandwidth, 19.5Mbps non stop is being used by the domain. I can block the services on our Smoothwall but I don't want to block it, just allocate very less bandwidth. Has anyone come across the same or similar issue and how did you fix it? Hi mjk, how did you setup global proxy please? I am struggling with mine. I need to setup one standard policy for our year 6 kids iPads. In and out of school. 1. I have setup DNS and a record to Smoothwall on a specific port. 2. I setup no auth on the internal IP and port 3. Setup global proxy server on Meraki to forward traffic to sw for filteration. 4. Installed client.cert on devices including guardian.cert through Meraki But it isn't working, I don't get any internet if I enable global proxy I lose internet connection completely on devices. Hi localzuk, RM provides the web link to install the cert directly. I've checked our keychain and also Firefox as well still we have issues. Chrome doesn't load no matter what you do. I even set RM cert under keychain 'system' and 'login', both options have 'Trust always', it still have no affect on the browser for some reason. Regards J.

Hi Mark, as I mentioned we've just installed it few weeks ago (first week back to school) so I am still learning. How do you re-create ca? I did try removing cert option and after restart I re applied cert option but it didn't rectify the issue. Also are you on AD or OD? Regards J.

Hi Richard, we use Meraki and it works well. We need a solution that purely works with Apple devices as we're a Mac house. There is option under meraki profile enforcement for global proxy and that's as easy as that. In Meraki we push certificate for our wifi and RM education and all works perfectly, why doesn't filteration works the same way, it's anyone's guess. By the way what solution do you have? Regards J.

Hi Mark, it's not an iPad dependent, the issue started while installing it on a windows laptop, then on MacBook and then iPad - none able to install. I'll encourage you to try to check it. Web proxy -> global proxy -> settings. Try download and install client.cert. it'll ask for password that has no reference anywhere

Just to add although Smoothwall isn't bad I find the support a bit lousy. I am struggling to find why the client certificate under global proxy settings asks for a password during installation. No one seems to know and when I asked SW I had a reply suggesting 'nobody had dealt with it in that detail'.i am pretty frustrated and annoyed at the moment as I cannot setup iPad filteration for our mobile students I.e. Kids who take their ipads outside of our network. We clearly mentioned and expected the solution we needed should support global proxy for our students without the need of username and password. Although we have just implemented this solution, if we don't get what we need I'll start looking somewhere else. P.S. We were to trial Lightspeed but didn't get anything so chose Smoothwall in the end. Regards J.

Same issue appeared again. I've installed the certificate and tested using ssltest and it showed fine under safari however doesn't work on Chrome or Firefox. I am really annoyed with this, none of our staff can work using Firefox or Chrome. I reported it to SWGfl but didn't get any resolution, they kept asking me to install the cert from Changes to Google SSL and RM SafetyNet | RM Education - What we do which I did and it installed successfully however I still can't get to Google.
