Morning Steewy, Thank you for a reply. I already tried resetting the iPads to factory default without using Apple configurator. The devices during the initial setup finds the wireless AP, asks for password but then never connects to the AP. After certain retries, it connects to the AP and I can ping the IP address that's assigned to the devices but both devices still refuse to connect to internet. Since my OP, I have tried many times but no avail. Perhaps an update might have caused this? I noticed Apple released 8.1.2 few days ago and yesterday they released 8.1.3 but then how come other devices on 8.1.2 and .3 are working perfectly fine. This surely is bizzare. Regards J.

Morning everyone, Hope everyone is doing well. I have a question regarding Apple's VPP deployment and management methods. I have read the two VPP deployment methods and am not sure which way to go. The managed app method requires individual apple IDs on devices but gives the freedom to assign revoke and re-assign apps; utilising the MDM system I am guessing we can remotely push updated apps, and also iOS updates without having to worry about bringing each device to the AC for an update. The other method requires no apple ID but manually configuring the apps using Apple Configurator - Apple iPad cart system. The second method although provides the freedom from creating an individual AppleID, it restricts the remote update as one would have to bring all iPads to update them every term or every end of year. I am not sure if redemption codes can be assign,reassign or revoked at any time from devices (are they organisation owned or device owned). My question is, which method do you think is better from management point of view? Is there any Hybrid method that we can use? Kind regards J.

Morning everyone, I am hoping you can help me crack this code. I have two iPad 2 devices here both are connected to the network, I can ping the ip addresses without any problems and they are showing connected to the network (wireless sign on the ipad) however I am unable to connect to the internet from either of the devices. Steps I have taken 1. Restart the device - no luck 2. Disabled and re enabled the wireless connection on the device- no luck 3. Reset the network settings on the iPad and restarted - no luck. 4. change the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.4 - no luck. 5. Checked the proxy settings and they are correct as well. Installed the new RM certificate and also the new proxy settings - no luck 6. Switch on and off Airplane mode and then re-enabled the wireless connection - no luck 7. Switch off Bluetooth - no luck 8. Refreshed the configuration from Apple configurator - no luck 9. Reset the device completely and entered the information directly onto the iPads but still no luck. I haven't changed any configuration on Apple configurator nor have added anything new onto the network. Other iPads and Macbooks are working perfectly fine. Infact both devices that aren't working are in my office where my iPad along with three others are working perfectly fine but not these two iPads. What am I missing? Kind regards J.

Morning njc235, yes I did have a look at it. One of the guys who I met in the last Apple conference mentioned it to me. It is a nice nifty tool.

I thought of Surface pro but then we have the challenge of apps and end user experience. We are Primary school at the end of the day. I would like to centralise the storage - using ACLs but if iPad does not allow default network storage it defeats the point of having NAS in the first place (create more headache of keeping iPad devices standardised). Apple Configurator is ok, wouldn't call it good though.

We're using 20 Aruba APs with Netgear POE switch in our Primary school. Currently running over 130 clients with no issues. Haven't tried others, perhaps a comparison of two systems would help you? Regards J.

Even having these devices on 1 to 1, it does not solve the problem. I can already see updating these devices including apps remotely will be another management challenge. kennysarmy raised a very good point - apps that takes huge amount of space on iPad should also be run from NAS....thinking now..... Thanks Michael and abillybob. I'll look into Tonido. Fairm010, one may wonder, why Apple boasts about being the most desirable device (iPad) in school environment when it doesn't allow basic facilities/features to IT/Network managers. Regards J.

Morning everyone, hope everyone is doing well. I am trying to setup 60 iPads for primary school kids with standard configuration (using apple configurator). One thing that I have noticed is the inability to define the storage path. The idea is to store data (Photos, Music, Movies, Docs etc) onto NAS drive as default. Does anyone know or has tried or has achieved this? How can we define default storage network /path in Apple Configurator/ or any other method for iPads - We're using iPad2? Kind regards J.
