Hi all, Hope you are keeping well. We have been a happy customer of Smoothwall for many years, running S14 appliance with web filter, firewall, malware etc. Our license is expiring soon and I wanted to renew the license only but for some reason I received a quotation with extended support of S14 and license together. All I am interested in is the license renewal cost. Did anyone else have this issue and how did you manage to get around this issue? You might be thinking why not just ask for license only cost ( I have done that already without success). If any Smoothwall guys read this, could you please help? Kindest regards Jay

Hi all, Hope you are keeping well. We are having a peculiar issue with Windows 11 laptop and Epson projector display. The projector is in the hall and we use the combo for school assemblies. Previously (on Windows 10) we always set the screen display to duplicate and we never had any issues regardless of us opening PowerPoint or YouTube videos or navigating between applications however ever since we bought the new laptop with Windows 11 the duplicate option reverts to extended display randomly. For example, we would be running a PowerPoint slides and if within it there is a link to a video, clicking on the video, the display will revert to Extended display, playing video on the laptop while the projector screen showing an extended desktop display. We then have to stop the video, click Windows+P and duplicate again, play the video. This way it starts to work until we switch back to power point slide and it reverts back again. I have updated the graphics card driver, updated Windows 11 but with no luck. We tried the same with different video players and different applications such as browser or Word document, it does the same. Each time we switch between applications, it reverts to extended display. I’d really appreciate to know the workaround or possibly permanent fix if someone have had the same issue and fixed it. Kindest regards Jay

This sucks, they sell their product to say it write backs to SIMS and so one would imagine it will write back but it doesn’t do anything. Really annoyed to be tricked in

We are one of those who took on SchoolComms, only if I knew I wouldn’t have done it. My question is, SchoolComms says their system has the ability to write back to SIMS but so far we found neither payments of dinners or anything related to kids (including deletion, editing) doesn’t seem to write back. Major issue is with parents payments to their dinners, goes to a company CyPad system but doesn’t really add anything to SIMS. does anyone know or found out what does SchoolComms write back to SIMS? kind regards Jehanzeb

Hi all, I wonder if there is any Pre-School/Early years setting software available in the market? We are using manual system from registering interest to signing up contracts, filling forms with details to sending invoices to paying parents. Even the time tabling of staff and ratio of pupil to adult is done manually. All of this is really laborious and cumbersome. So I am wondering how are you running yours? Do you use any dedicated software? Or are you using the same manual process including Excel sheets/Google sheets and Word. Kind regards Jay

Hi all, Not sure if anyone else had this issue but I seem to have had a bizare issue since 18th Sept. I am unable to setup the new NJ Staff paygrade and associated salaries in SIMS.net ---> Tools ---> Staff ---> Pay Related ----> NJ Pay Awards (new Sept 2019 fileset .xml) does not import into SIMS.net. This is obviously affecting FMS as I am unable to import new salaries from recon files. Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, = or when the subquery is used a an expression. The statement has been terminated It seems to me there is a duplication issue in the database but not really sure if I am correct? Has anyone else had this issue? I have raised the issue with Capita and even after over 3 weeks (nearly a month) I have had no updates apart from a phone call today saying we're looking into it and we'll give you a call tomorrow. Not something I was expecting... Anyhow, I do not want to rant here but simply wanted to know if someone else had a problem and if yes, did you manage to fix it and if you did, how? Noneunless you push them, most of them doesn’t even know beyond “photo copy” and which part fits where as they have a diagram of the mfp. Kindest regards J.

Konica Minolta - with regards to service or regular firmware updates etc you’ll have to be proactive with any supplier otherwise none will bother.KM in my experience has the best quality prints. Oh and use your negotiation power for B&W and colour prints per copy and leasing options...best of luck Kindest regards J.

Did you try asking Lightspeed as they are charging you for providing the service? As the other poster suggested it isn’t anything apart from time wasting, in education, we teach students not to waste time, maybe perhaps teachers could help promote nontime wasting activities in school? Though if a students wants to waste time he/she will even staring at an empty wall will do the trick at least with snake and Pac-Man their brain is working out..... Kindest regards J.

Let’s say Capita is capitalising on something someone else made to make his/team life easier but was never designed for a larger scale. The same mindset moved to a bigger software (database) size but not the real productivity/efficiency. Just like public sector, everything takes 1000s years before one single efficiency step. If we look at it, Capita did take lots of steps.... Oh the real question, what’s happening with SIMS 8? Has it been dumped or still pushing with a hideously designed interface?

Two things you can do, change your headteacher or ask him to just cope with read only word on iPad and if he really wants to work on the go, you should have bought him a MacBook, at least he should have known. ipad Apps are cloud based as you cannot store any documents offline on iPads (no storage option) and for that you need some sort of cloud account. Also these productivity apps are really hard to work/use as the screen size is too small when onscreen keyboard takes almost half the screen unless you have an iPad Pro 12+”. On a contrary, the headteacher might want to implement cloud based services for everyone which should have been a strategy implementation and not I want this and that. Kindest regards J.

If you want free your options or few but if you want cheaper paid versions there are plenty out there some are school oriented and some are business oriented but say we cover schools do whereas they don’t really, the reason being they say the underline concept of schooling and business is the same, not quiet right but they insist it is (and give 1000s of examples to back their opinion, none fit rightly so in school environment.

Some of our teachers were having the same issue so I removed office and reinstalled it from the original disc and it resolved the issue. The new Mac Office update doesn’t work, we’re using Bizhub C368 and even removing the printer and resetting doesn’t work. The only method is to remove the office completely and reinstall the older version and do not update. Kindest regards J.

Good morning everyone,A bit of a strange problem with one of our Year 6 iPads. All iPads are fine except one iPad that had an issue where it keep asking the student to activate the device, well it says it cannot activate the device as it cannot connect to the Apple activation server. So I connected the device to AC2 and activated the device. The device works perfectly for few days and then revert back to activation page, locking the device. I then have to plug it back into AC2 and re activate it.When the student brought the device fourth time, I kept it with me to further investigate, under the General ---> Device Management --->Meraki Management (the certificate all of a sudden shows as not verified but also the title Meraki Management is in Red). I've clicked onto the Meraki Management and all the certificates are shown in Red even though the expiry dates are 2032, 2019, 2020 etc. They are marked as expired. I tried to click on Update Profile option but it does not install/update the profile, instead it states The profile Meraki Management could not be updated. The server certificate for "xxxxxx" is invalid. I tried to push the certificate again using Safari on iPad but that doesn't allow it to be installed.What am I doing wrong? Is this because I am using an older version of Meraki reference (AC 1.7x) rather than (AC 2.x)?Your kind help assistance would be highly appreciated.Kindest regardsJ.

Thanks Bobsmith, I downloaded but it showed current students incl year 6 which will be leaving this year. So I removed them and added the ones that came to school including reception that applied for FSM as that would automatically make them eligible for PP. P.S. why can’t we have things in just one place, I find it so difficult to go here there, wasting time looking for things that should be published/sent within one documentation. Kindest regards J.
