  1. Fixed!! A very big thank you Furby. Here's what I did 1. Flush the DNS on client machine by opening Terminal and entering the following command (Mac 10.6.8) dscacheutil -flushcache 2. Open "Finder" --> click "Go" --> "Go to folder" and type /Library/Managed Preferences 3. Open user folder for example Green10 4. Delete the file "com.apple.mcxprinting.plist" 5. Flush DNS one more time (step 1) 6. Go to System preferences--> Print & fax 7. You will see all the printers in the list, delete all of them and then add the new printer. Although I can still see the old references I.e. Old printers in the list of "add printers" -- when you press "+" sign under printers & fax but at least the new printers are added without issue. I really want to delete all references to old printers but unfortunately even after deleting the plist it didn't get rid of old printers list. For now the new printer started to work. With regards to the script above how do you want me to run Furby? I tried copying pasting it into terminal but nothing happened. Regards J. Update: under CUPS manage printers I can see all the printers. How can I get rid of these printers please? System info app page is now showing all printers including old ref printers. This was empty before.
  2. Thank you everyone for kind inputs. I have cleared the cache, that was the first thing I did. The local host:631 cups shows no printers in the list. The managed pref only had the user green10, and I have deleted it. Still no luck I have opened the safari bonjour service and in there I can see all printers. It doesn't seem to be the network issue (most probably wrong in saying this) but I took the laptop to the printer and connected it using USB cable, downloaded the full software from HP support drivers site, installed it and when I connected it and went into system pref --> print & fax, there was nothing there. The printer didn't show up under word or excel either, though when I went into HP utility, it showed the printer and printed a test page but only from the utility. The earlier point reference to word document printing I was referring to was when I open the document and click print it doesn't show any printers but when you click on nearby printers or add printers it shows all printers even the reference to old obsolete printers. When I click and try to add a printer it doesn't add the printer. With regards to ip addresses and subnet and default gateway, HP has a web portal that we can use to access printers (using printers IP address) I not only physically went to the printers and checked them but also went online onto the portal and checked every printer. The subnet IP and default gateway all of them are set correctly. Furby I will be highly appreciative if you kindly share a script to clear all printers from the client machine. Oh and lost at -l shows nothing under terminal Regards J.
  3. thank you for taking part in the discussion Furby. I wouldn't have any issue if the printers wouldn't show under system pref but would work under Ms word or excel. The biggest issue I am having is the inability to not only see the printers under system pref but also not being able to print anything off them. I have searched the Internet for this issue and it seems a lot of people are having the issue after an update to OS X 10.6.8 (combo update). Unfortunately I cannot revert back before the update using time machine as it wasn't configured. I can't update to yes omits because certain programs that are running now will not work. There are hints and fixes for example "Repair 10.6.8" "OS X printer fix" but none seems to be working. The printers are shown under system profiler, 10 of them are pointing to the old range. There is only one printer that I installed x576dw but that seems not working either. [see below] I can't seem to uninstall any of these printers. I need a script to clear the MacBook from all old printers. Someone also mentioned to copy and replace a socket file from a working MacBook to this to make it work but I don't know how that can be achieved. Regards J.
  4. Thank you for continuing support m25man, I checked the IPs and they all seems correctly associated. I have taken some screenshots of the issue I am having with only some MacBooks and not all. The above is what's happening, I can't see any printers regardless. If I try to add the printer again it shows the following message If I reset printers it goes back to the same loop, doesn't show printers even after adding it it wouldn't show it. This is going to into loops. Regards J.
  5. IP range is /21 with subnet mask 255.255.248.0 with APs and printers set upper range of static IP. Rest of the network has dhcp. Regards J.
  6. M25man thank you for kind input, I will double check the ip and subnet mask on printers; though before changing the range we didn't have the printers. Printers were installed after the range and I set ip, subnet, and gateway on the them (static IP). Laptops are on the same range(dhcp IP). The biggest problem I am having is that some laptops can see the printers and some don't. I'll try and upload screenshots to clarify. Best regards J.
  7. Thanks for a quick reply m25man, I am not sure if that is the case as other printers are working with other MacBooks. All printers have static addresses. For example one class had two MacBooks placed a meter away from each other, one shows printer list under system preferences --> print & fax but the other MacBook with the same OS 10.6.8 with same settings doesn't show any printer under the list. The one that doesn't show printers, when click on + sign shows all available printers Bonjour service. When I click the printer it shows right driver and shows it has added the printer but doesn't show anything on printer list. If I try adding the printer again it says one is already in the queue. The only way to remove it is by pressing ctrl+right click --> reset printers. This reset doesn't fix the issue. The bizarre thing is not being able to show any printer but when I open word document and click print, it shows all the printers but doesn't add or let me print anything. Regards J.
  8. Update: The network accounts issue has been resolved, had to reconfigure server on MacBooks but the printer issue is still on. Can't figure out why it doesn't show the printers. Tried resetting permissions, removing printers but no luck whatsoever.
  9. good evening everyone, Hope you are well. We recently changed our ip range as the previous one exhausted. Since we changed the ip range now users on MacBooks cannot login using their username and password. We are using Mac server for DNS, DHCP, and users are created under dhcp clients. MacBooks are running on 10.6.8. Printers are HP X576DW with air print, bonjour and cloud printing enabled. Issues: 1: some MacBooks can see printers and are perfectly printing but some refuse to show any printer under system preferences-->Print & fax. I have tried resetting the printer queue by using ctrl+right click but that didn't help. If I open word document and click print all old printers list is shown. The print & fax doesn't show any printer even after adding it by + sign and selecting the right printer. Adding printer shows old printers as well as a bonjour service. 2: some users can access their accounts using their username and password but others cannot login at all. The network sign on user account shows red dot 'the accounts are unavailable'. This red dot appears on those user laptops who are able to logon. These issues are driving me crazy, any help will be highly appreciated. Kind regards J.
  10. Not to worry, found a solution to the issue.
  11. Code: 12023 Domain: MCMDMErrorDomain The iTunes Store ID of the application could not be validated Feb 22 09:12 Install app 'Solar Walk™ - Planets of the Solar System' Error - The iTunes Store ID of the application could not be validated. Feb 22 09:12 Morning everyone, Hope your are well. I've bought apps under Meraki VPP and invited and associated apple ids with it. The first few apps pushed perfectly fine however some of the apps didn't get pushed. I am trying to push the missing apps onto the devices but the following [given above] error keeping coming up under Activity log. I forced sync iPads but still no luck. What am I doing wrong? Your help will be highly appreciated. Regards J.
  12. Ab tutor is the only site I have seen that shows pricing, can we find out pricing on Lan school and Impero edu pro? I hear everyone saying Impero being the most expensive but no one mentioned how much. I read someone said you'll have to sell your kidney to afford it . Is it that expensive? Also if I read it correctly, Abt tutor offers a one off fee, that would mean Impero education pro and Lan school are subscription based. I am looking for monitoring and class room management software for our school, someone mentioned to look at Lightspeed and others said smooth wall and some said look at Impero; I am getting pulled from all directions. I wish I could see a comparison chart between these products. Regards J.
  13. I am looking at Juniper SRX240 but someone mentioned to look at Lightspeed as it has option for MDM and Web filter all in one and or Smoothwall. One thing that I don't want is ongoing subscription and tie ourselves up with ever so increasing subscription prices. The search still goes on..... Regards Jay
  14. Thanks Ian for your kind help. I have looked at the link you shared and currently looking at two devices X576DW and M570dn. I've also read about the page wide technology that HP has integrated in their new machines. Thanks Fiza papercut seems a good idea, considering it shows the avg usage costs and MatthewL, thank you for the link as well. Regards J.
  15. Thank you for your kind input Fiza. There are too many issues with software dependent printing. We use Handyprint and have tried Printopia, it's very rare when something comes out properly from the printer. I saw teachers roaming around the classroom thinking it will work if we go to "this" corner or "that" corner. I believe technology has taken it's step and more functionalities have been implemented into printers themselves. Plus new printers are a little bit more economical than the older ones. Nevertheless, I shall look into Papercut. Regrads J.
  16. Ian many thanks for your kind input. Would you be kind enough to mention some of the models that are good in HP range? Also what about inkjets where printing duplex would get a little smudgy as it doesn't get time to dry quickly. My main concern is the classroom usage and also airprint and cloud service. Duplex is def a plus as it will help reduce the paper usage. Regards J.
  17. Michael firstly apologies for the late reply. I found out that we had to inform proxy (RM) about the extension of IP scope; informed them about it and found out that we couldn't have that range as it has been already allocated to another institution. I requested a completely new range, and although I am aware that all devices need to be updated with the new IP address and a gateway, this time we have plenty of IPs to allocate. There was an option to have a secondary scope but that would've meant a separate gateway. I am still under the process of setting up secondary scope in DHCP and looking at how to migrate from old to new. Regards J.
  18. Morning all, Hope every one is doing well. The school has been using Lexmark X544 printers in the past and now we would like to upgrade/change them. I've been looking at the issues that teachers and kids face in a normal day classroom. The issues we found are, unable to print directly from iPad due to lack of Airprint compatibility in printers (p.s. I am aware of different software utilities such as Handyprint, Printopia etc). Also unable to print directly from Google drive as printer does not support cloud printing. In order to provide both facilities natively, I started looking at different printers. To my surprise, the market is flooded with printers that support both options. The question is, which one to go for that is ideal for the Classroom environment. Someone mentioned HP Pro X476DW inkjet AIO printer, but I am not entirely convinced that it will run economically in a Classroom environment, especially being an "inkjet" - even though the website suggest it runs like a laser and has low running costs. Ideally looking for something that is economical, has duplex colour printing option, scanning option and as I mentioned above Airprint and Cloud compatible, and obviously networked enabled. Any suggestions, experiences will be highly appreciated. Oh and has anyone installed/setup X476DW in their classrooms? How does it run? Regards J.
  19. This is exciting, I've been reading this post as well, trying to understand. I created a new profile under MDM-->Profiles--> Add New Profile---> mobile profile. Then I went to MDM--->Settings ---> Credentials -->Add a new credential --> filled Name,Password, (and selected) certificate. Now what next.......
  20. Firstly thank you both of you, Sibrows and Brimstone, for taking part in the discussion and wealth of information. I did understand what Sibrows was referring to in his first few replies and didn't require further help, though at one hand I do understand the frustration from Brimstone, I am afraid I would disagree with the mode of communication. One can be "out of here" but the "attitude" and the way one communicates remains here, forever. The beauty of open public forum is that we all have different skills and experiences, where one has advanced in one field the other has in another, this should'n't mean we start to bash each other without understanding. Apple certainly has it's drawbacks/flaws/limitations, if one cannot set a default storage path on an Apple device, nor can disable "settings" option from the device in a school environment, who should we blame to? the answer is obvious. AC and MDM are not rocket science, especially not for those who have worked on Enterprise based systems. My thinking suggest Apple has a long way to go in terms of "truly" Education System. One can clearly see the 'thought process' behind the system - still developing and struggling to understand the requirements. Regards J.
  21. Thanks Arthur Regards J.
  22. Biz would you kindly share the iPhone configuration utility download with us please? I tried meraki but had no luck, I asked RM but they never understood what I was on about. In the end I did what I explained in the above post. Regards J.
  23. Class bookable 'annoying trolley' setup. Would love to see the school going 1:1 one day.
  24. You can't do it with Meraki but you can do it with AC. Either create a new profile with RM Cert name or just add the Certificate into the current profile under the certificate section [download the cert file and then upload to AC]. Here's the direct link that can install the certificate directly onto an ipad without the need of AC. http://www.rm.com/_rmvirtual/media/downloads/rmeducationca.crt P.S. you do need to enter the passcode while installing the new certificate. Also under proxy settings instead of proxy.swgfl.org.uk you would need to enter sslfilter.proxy.swgfl.org.uk In order to download and install on the machines, I had to go to their normal address download the Mac and Windows versions respectively and install them. Here's the default address link Changes to Google SSL and RM Safetynet Plus | RM Education - What we do with regards to Macbooks, I found that after installing the Apple version of certificate, some browsers still didn't work until I went onto the web browser safari/firefox/chrome and run the .crt link [first link I gave above] and click Trust on all options. With regards to windows unzip the file and run the .reg file, it'll add the info into the registry for you. To test if it has been installed properly, go to RM SafetyNet - SSL Filtering Certificate Test onto your browser and if there is a green tick mark, it means it has been installed successfully, if you see yellow ! mark that means something went wrong. hope this helps
  25. Thank you for the reply Michael, I haven't tried taking the iPads at home but I think I'll do that and see if it connects to the network. I extended the IP scope few weeks ago so I don't think it's the IP assignment. All of our devices working perfectly fine including devices that are in my office, it's just these two that are playing up. Will post an update after taking these home and see if it works. Many thanks Regards J.
