Just to let you know as I've not seen this discussed on these forums yet. Apple has identified and issue with IOS 9.2 in which MDM systems stop sending management commands to iPads on 9.2: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205654 Apple have only mentioned this affecting installing apps but others have reported it's all management commands such as inventory updates and VPP invites. This doesn't affect all 9.2 iPads. I think it has something to do with pending hidden commands which can't be seen. This holds up other pending commands.

We use Casper but I'm sure lightspeed is very similar. You should have the option to enroll using a Enrollment URL. This is quite a manual process for shared iPads so it might just be easier to use Apple Configurator to enroll your iPads to your MDM. DEP is the best option but if that isn't avaiable, I'd use a mix of Apple Configurator 2 and your chosen MDM. The Enrollment URL is a legacy method really for 1:1 deployment (in my opinion).

Ours is the only office in building with aircon so we get set our temp! Lucky to have been put in an ex-computer room. Everyone comes to our office during winter/summer to feel the benefits. Every other office has little heaters/radiators under their desks.

Just read this. Hope it's all true. Especially the apple Id management. https://www.edsurge.com/news/2016-01-11-new-apple-ios-updates-improve-device-management-for-schools?utm_content=buffer98dfe&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

I had this happen before with some iPads on the older versions of IOS. This was like ios 7. Not happened much since IOS8 and we've not had any reports with ios 9.2. We have around 800 iPads too. We found when a new IOS update was released this would sometimes fix the issue. Or a restore might help.

There is no supported way by apple to bulk create apple ID's. There are some scripts floating around on the internet which can automate the process but quite often these scripts can be out of date as apple change their itunes/app store quite often. Or a new OS will come out. If you can't get a script to work you'll have to manually create them all and also verify them. If these are 1:1 devices I would create a guide for students to follow and get them to setup the apple ID's themselves. If these are shared devices I would check the VPP store to see if the apps you want on the iPads are device assignable. This means you can assign the app to the device even if there is no Apple ID associated with it. Now or apps are device assignable - the developer has to turn this feature on.

Yep, I totally got the reason behind it. Just didn't work out very well. Fire away with the questions.

[ipad] Newbie using Apple Configurator 2, feeling overwhelmed
RLR replied to bethany4143's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
What you've said is correct but you really need to look into Apple DEP if these are 1:1 devices. If they are shared/class devices then AC might be the better option. DEP allows devices to be setup by the user themselves. You may need to create a guide to go with it but it makes your job easier in the long run as you won't have to keep putting devices through AC.- 10 replies

We're a 1:1 iPad school and an apple distinguished school (whatever that means!) so we kind of needed a MAC suite. A couple of Summers ago we kitted out one of our labs with brand-new iMacs. Within the first few weeks in to the new school year it was causing such a headache as staff didn't know how to use them. We then had to spend the half term putting bootcamp on all the iMacs and duel booting them to Windows. They are now always used as Windows machines. Real waste of money!

[ipad] IOS9 stopping Meraki installing Apps

I could be wrong as we don't use Meraki but doesn't the free version of Merkai not support IOS9. -
[ipad] Shared iPad Deployment Recommendation + AirWatch MDM
RLR replied to rcmcdonald91's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
You will need to make sure the iPads have been bought from an apple reseller. You can then setup an appleid at deploy.apple.com to be part of the DEP and VPP program. Once these have been setup, your apple reseller can add the iPads to DEP. You'll also have to setup DEP to connect to your MDM server so the devices show up. We setup an apple ID per device but apple have recently allowed apps to be assigned to devices rather than an apple ID. This means the app can be put on iPads without the need of an apple ID. Note: the app developer has to enable this functionality so not all apps are available for this method. You can check if an app has this enabled when you have access to the VPP purchasing area. I think your priority it to get DEP and VPP setup. Then focus on setting up config profiles for ipads. -
Just replying to say our issues have been resolved now after applying a database patch and updating sims teacher app to : 3.0.3.21 . The app is now working very well. Cant wait for more features to get added.

We use room booking system also. It works quite well and allows users to have accounts to book rooms.

We have an app for our students. It was created by a third party without any involvement from the IT Department. It was a project ran by our Digital Learning Director. I don't know much about the app but it's for Students only and uses iBeacons dotted around the school to give students information when they're close by. It's not used much at the moment but might change in the future. It's not available on the app store and has to be deployed via our MDM.

From what I understand this is normal behavior. Google likes its users to control their own contacts list. So if you go to google.com/contacts you can control your contacts. These are synced to the iPad. Domain Address books don't sync but you can still search on the iPad. You can do this by opening up a new email > tap the + button to search contacts > Tap Groups at the top left > Tick Global Address List > It will go to a search area, you can now search all users in Google Domain. Can be slow due to the number of users you have. I haven't found a way to always have the global address book ticked. For each user you want to add to the email, you have to go through the steps again to search the global address book. This is on the mail app, I'm not sure if there is a similar feature for the gmail app.

Connectvity issues with HP Chromebooks and Meru AP320 APs
RLR replied to Bruce123's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
I can't be of much help but we had similar issues with iPads at our school. We use meru and we contacted their support team via the meru portal and they spent a few days remoting in and changing a few settings. So far, things have been really good. -
To be fair, the app is working 99% of the time. It's just this one user who is getting this error. If I act on behalf of this user I will also get this error. It seems to be linked to the classes/user account possibly.
-
I believe this resolved itself with the updates from capita. It was around the time of the CPU maxing issue. We currently have our sims hosted by SCOMIS. We had to email them every so often to restart the service.

To bring an old(ish) thread back to life. We're still getting the error message: "A Server error has occured. There has been a problem when trying to get student marks. If the problem persists please contact your IT Support team." This error appears when we click to take attendance on current classes or classes that have already been. If we're to go forward a week and click the same class we don't get this error. It seems very intermittent. I've had a call open with Scomis who are in contact with Capita but we don't seem to be getting anywhere. We've tried: Re-installing the app Turning Location Services on Different iPads Adding iPads to an exception list on the firewall Has anyone else come across this issue?

[ipad] Meraki profile is blocking Airplay working ???
RLR replied to mikkydoos's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
We found that Airserver required an update for iPads on IOS 9. If the Airplay symbol is showing as a speaker and not a TV, it would suggest the iPad is on IOS 9 and air server needs an update. -
Yes, this is very annoying. Another thing I really dislike is the apps that only allow you to purchase them with an in-app purchase. Seriously, the whole VPP licensing needs updating massively. I feel they rushed it once iPads started to become more then just personal devices.
-
Yes this is what we noticed. We use smoothwall and have HTTPS inspection turned on. Not many apps are affected but some are. I know Ubersense and Periscope defiantly have issues.
-
We've had a few issues with certain apps on our Firewall system. It came down to how the apps are designed and send traffic. This is the response we got whilst working with our Firewall Support: The access logs (traffic dump) showed that the app appeared to be sending non-http traffic over http. This was causing the traffic to be block by the webfilter. It is not possible to bypass traffic from the app as it uses a content hosting provider and that would allow all content hosted on the servers.

So we shouldn't have to send out new association codes?

I checked a teachers iPad yesterday and in the "Updates" area of the App Store it said SIMS Teacher App had been updated yesterday (21/10/15). When I clicked the SIMS Teacher App Icon in the app store to get more information about the update it didn't want to load but every other app did. I then tried searching for the App but it can't be found. From the snapshot of the update list it said SIMS App Version 3.0.0. Is it possible they release an update then pulled it back?
