This doesn't sit right with me either and I was a bit shocked when it got mentioned. Just pointing out that we won't be doing these checks in IT but have just been asked to see how it might be possible for HR to do them. I don't think the idea is to ask the candidate for details but just to do a quick search online to see if any content considered extreme pops up. I believe the reason behind this is because there was a case recently in a school in which someone got hired that had a criminal record from their home country but had moved to the UK in which their criminal record was clean. A quick search on the user highlighted what they did back home and could have avoided the issue they caused in the UK school.

HR have asked us to look into possible ways of doing online social media checks as part of the recruitment process as this is now recommended by KCSIE. We've looked at searching social media sites but it seems most of them require an actual account linked to a user - they don't allow business accounts. There's also a few company's that will do this for you but don't have very good reviews. How are other schools doing this?

Within Jamf you should be able to setup Jamf Parent. This is an app parents can setup to control their childs iPad as long as it's an iPad assigned to the student in Jamf. Anyone using iSAMS experiencing errors when trying to take the register using the iTeacher app on IOS devices today?

I forgot to mention in my reply that if you setup classes and go down the Shared iPad route then you can use Apple Classroom to lock student devices into specific apps. You can also use it to have a brief over view of what the students are currently seeing on their screen.

This would become a mess if you are to use it this way. You're best off getting setup with Google Classroom or the Microsoft equivalent which I think is Microsoft Teams? I'm not sure if there is a way to broadcast to all screens but another solution would be to just broadcast the one screen to the projector/tv in the room. This will require apple TV boxes or some sort of broadcast software installed on the classroom computer such as AirServer. You can setup shared iPad mode which allows students to sign in via managed apple IDs. There's quite a bit of setup involved if you're starting from scratch but worth it. We use it for our younger years. Not quite sure what's being asked here. If you setup Google Classroom or Microsoft teams you can update these yourself. EDIT: If you plan on going down the Shared iPad Mode route, then check that your devices are eligible before investigating as you may waste a lot of time trying to set something up that isn't possible with your devices. There's certain criteria the iPads have to meet to be able to use Shared iPad Mode.

We have a guide for each device: Windows, Chrome, IOS and Android. Android is always a pain as it depends on the version they are running. We have a separate wifi SSID for external people that come in that we regularly change the password to.

I think this screen can be turned off so the login boxes are always showing. You (or the school) will need some sort of apple ID to setup your MDM. This is because your MDM will likely need certifcates installing which you get from Apple School Manager. You sign into Apple School Manager with an Apple ID. If you're not signed up to Apple School Manager and your still using the old method (Volume Purchase Program (VPP) and Device Enrolment Program (DEP), then I would look into this first as it merges everything into one place. The first certificate you need is an Apple Push Notification Certificate (APNS). The second certificate you need is your app License certificate (referred to as token). This can be downloaded from your Apple School Manager (or VPP if you're still using that). These expire every year and need renewing. If you don't update your APNS certificate and it expires you may have to re-enrol all your iPads again. You need to make sure you're renewing the same APNS certificate and not creating a new one or you will have to re-enrol all your devices again. There's quite a lot to it if you've never had to use apple devices before. I recommend getting some outside help to go through it all. As for Classroom management, you'll slowly learn that Apple keep their iPads very locked down which doesn't let developers have much freedom on creating the things they want. Your main answer for classroom management is Apple Classroom. We use it here and it works fairly well. There's a lot that can go into the setup. For example, you can setup your iPads as shared iPads which allows students to sign into the iPad using their managed apple id. If you're not using shared iPads but are sharing iPads, then you run the risk of students/staff leaving themselves logged into services that other users can access.

You will need post script drivers on the printers. This is usually a little card that gets fitted into the printer. A quick google also suggests you'll need to use their App to setup the printing for iPads. We use Papercut here to manage our printing. If you have papercut you can setup mobile print which allows you to push the settings out to devices. For example, you can push a config profile out to your iPads via your MDM that automatically adds the mobile print quite.

Just to echo what Katy has said as it's caught me out before. The names can be confusing if you're looking to extract a specific WIM version from the ISO. Windows 10 Education = Enterprise Windows 10 Education Pro = Pro The pro version does not support saving Bitlocker recovery key to AD if you Bitlocker your machines.

I'm not sure if there's any free ones but paid for ones are AirParrot and AirServer. We prefer AirServer.

We had a user trying to use it 8pm and still had the slowness. Guess I'll wait to see what their support ticket says.

Just wondering if any other schools using iSAMS are experiencing slow loading pages? In particular, the general tabs of the Student Manager and HR Manager modules? Other pages seem fine but the general tab is taking up to 30 seconds to load. I've put a ticket in with iSAMS but not heard anything back. This started yesterday.

Possibly. We have a dedicated MIS team so I'm massively involved in this migration. I'm mainly getting involved where there is a cross-over of data and IT systems. It seems like every integrator (salamander, inventry, vericool) have all queried the number of staff is far larger than what we had in SIMS. Salamander are able to filter the staff based on a user defined field but Inventry and Vericool don't have anything to filter contractors/volunteers out of our staff records. I'm sure our data manager will have a fair few stories to share as he's been dealing with a lot of the data migration.

Yep, we're going to use a user defined field. I Just wanted to check we had added/imported staff correctly as it seemed odd that a few integrators queried this.

We're currently moving from SIMS to iSAMS. One thing we've come across is our 3rd party integrators like Salamander and Vericool are querying the large amounts of staff we have that they can see. From what I understand, all staff from SIMS have been moved to iSAMS which includes contractors,peripatetic music staff, volunteers etc. These users are needed to be added as staff so that the data in the Single Central Register is as up to date as possible but got me wondering if there is another way we're meant to add these types of userse in iSAMS?

I bought my son an entry level gaming PC a couple of years ago. I usually don't mind building them myself but overclockers had a half decent one up for sale on their website so I went with that. I spent around £600 on the PC but needed to get other stuff such as monitor, desk, chair, keyboard, mouse, mouse pad etc and it ended up being around £1000. Prices have gone up since the chip shortage too so I don't think £500 will get you far. We've never used MAK keys. Always used KMS and rarely have any issues. With newer versions of windows you usually have to contact Microsoft support and hope you speak to someone that knows what a KMS key is and they should put you through to the correct department. They will then ask a couple of questions and provide a KMS key in MVLC. I used this page before to contact someone about licensing: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/licensing/contact-us Some other things worth noting that I have in my documentation: Activating devices by KMS won’t work until there’s been enough requests to the KMS server for that product. For example, you need 5 requests made to the KMS server for it to start activating devices via KMS. So if you are trying to activate 1 or 2 devices of the same product (server 2022 for example), it won’t work until there are at least 5 of these making the request. You can view the current request amount on the KMS server by running: "slmgr /dli" in command prompt

We asked several times about a break clause but we could never get an answer. It's like no one at ESS knew anything about it even though lots of schools had already been offered it. Doesn't matter now as we're moving to iSAMS.

Bought one about a month ago for my son as his cousin had one. Only thing he plays on it is Gorrila Tag so effectively paid £300 for a game (he does play it a lot though). Guess in the future he might try some other games but at the moment he doesn't use it for much else.
