1. Also using zabbix. Took a little while to get setup and running. There's still a lot that I can probably do with it but that takes time to learn.
2. That's the other thing that's now gone - proper support. Support at a lot of companys is near impossible to get hold of or they make it so difficult that you just give up. We went on holiday with Jet To and made a complaint about the hotel. It took them 9 months to reply and all we got was a generic apology. But it seems to work as after waiting 9 months we couldn't be bothered to fight it anymore because it was painful for us to try get anywhere with it.
3. I ring up each time my contract comes to an end and threaten to leave. They then give me a fairly good discount to stay. Seems to be the way things work these days with these companies. Just like insurance companys, you have to threaten to leave at the end of the contract to get the best price. Every year I change car insurance providor because the current providor will try increase my policy by £50+ even though I've gone another year with a no claims. They prey on the people that don't bother looking to change. Phone contracts is another one although I've gone SIM only now.
4. Not much help but atleast I can confirm that we're not seeing this issue so it might suggest it's something with the setup/firewall? Do you have a laptop you can test it on by connecting it to 4G to see if it works?
5. We buy a lot of iPads but always find Academia to be the cheapest.
6. Yea, I got an email about this a couple of days ago. Said I'm going from 200 to 250 but not checked.
7. We also have fortigate doing full ssl inspection and it seems okay. Do you have a support contract with anyone that might be able to help? Are there any firmware or IPS updates available?
8. You could do the cyber essentials certification which would be far cheaper then getting an actual pen test company in. I believe they do an external test as part of their testing.
9. To see if it's possibly a contact cache issue you can show/print the contacts of a user with gam. This will display if the user has the contact saved and what type of contact it is saved as: gam user [email protected] show contacts
10. This does sound like the contact is saved into some of the users personal google contacts. This can sometimes be under their "other" contacts group. I found GAM might be able to fix this: gam all users delete othercontact emailmatchpattern "][email protected] or you could just run the above command on a single user to see if that fixes the problem for them gam user "][email protected] delete othercontact emailmatchpattern "][email protected] Another option if the contact isn't in "other" contacts is to try delete it from their actual contacts: gam user "][email protected] delete contacts emailmatchpattern "][email protected] If you're using Google Cloud Directory Sync you might need to look at what attribute is being used to populate the name of the group in Google. For example, we use the "displayName" attribute in AD but if this isn't filled in it just defaults to the groups email address. Might be worth checking to see if the attribute used is the same as the group name.
11. We have a daily news/student blog email sent out each day at the same time using a powershell script and a scheduled task. You could set something similar up on a server?
12. Yep, this is an ongoing issue since Summer. Lots of reports on Mac admins slack about it too. Seems to be a cacheing issue and a pressing F5 to refresh the page usually resolves it.
13. Can you view the history of commands sent to the iPads? This should tell you what's being installed when you add them to the Shared Trolley.
14. I've read about this multiple times on slack and forums but not encountered anyone with it until today. We've got one user that is having this issue. Looks to have been going on since summer time.
15. We've come accross a couple of websites that use to work but are now not loading and return a ERR_CONNETION_TIMED_OUT message. I've checked various things on our network and also put my machine into a policy on the firewall to not be filtered but I'm still getting the issue. I don't believe it's device based as it happens on iPad and Windows machines. The websites work fine on 4G The only other thing I can think it might be is they've got some sort of blocking enabled based on Public IP address or maybe too many users trying to access it at once. Is anyone else able to see if they can access: https://www.admissionstesting.org/ https://schoolsupporthub.cambridgeinternational.org/ Any ideas what might be causing this? Edit: Oddly adding "support." makes that part of the website work for us (https://support.admissionstesting.org) I'm now pretty sure this has something to do with our ISP as both these websites that don't work resolve to an IP address owned by our ISP whereas the working website (https://support.admissionstesting.org) has a different IP not owned by our ISP.
16. Yes you can use a Mac with AC2 and use the prepare function. The ipad can get its internet connectivity from the MAC if you enable internet sharing. This means you don't need to push a Wifi profile out with AC2 as the device will have internet connectivity already and you can then push a wifi config profile out via Jamf School. You will still need to go through any steps you've not ticked to skip in the Automated Device Enrollment profile, for example, location services is one you might to keep on as it sets the time.
17. Anyone had any success with this? Find it odd they market this to Education but don't provide an easy way to install this for all users. We've just been asked to install this and getting the same issue. Do you think copying the gdevelop folder to c:/program files and then create a new shortcut to program files would work?
18. Yep. My issue was with Group Policy and having bitlocker run and save the key to AD as part of the MDT imaging process. I don't believe Education Pro supports bitlcoker via GPO settings?
19. Yep, I find their naming confusion. I would think "Education Pro" would be better than "Education" but that's not the case. I found this out when I decided to try Education Pro and found out machines didn't get bitlockered!
20. Thanks, this is great information.
21. We just moved away from SIMS but when we had it we used the SIMS teacher app. Worked okay for us. Every now and then they would break something but for taking registers it was fine.
22. I'm not aware of anything that can recall an email once it's been sent out of your domain. There are things you can put in place to try prevent and block emails going outside of the domain.
23. There is a setting in print options called "Let Windows Manage my default print". Is this turned on? You might be able to turn this off via GPO which may fix the issue.
24. I looked into this a while back and didn't make any notes but this information might help. I found this: "Updates are installed via a scheduled task the click-to-run installer installs. The scheduled task is under Task Scheduler > Microsoft > Office > Office Automatic Updates 2.0" I believe there are also some GPO settings that need to be setup to allow it to download.
25. Sorry, should have been more specific. For example, Facebook seems to recognise that you are trying to sign-up as a business and doesn't allow accounts to be created as a user without it being linked to a real peson.
