Hi all, We have several network shares and recently ones been taking a hammering with the amount of stuff on it - from yesturday alone the free space had dropped ~50GB (Total space on this share is 1TB). I've taken a look through with treesize and it seems that our Drama dept are the worst offenders due to them having to record their GCSE lessons. The free space is dwindling quite fast at the moment - We used to store our ISO's on this share but I've since relocated (and thinned out what we need) but there is nothing else from our point I can remove. I'll be chatting to my line manager regarding old files - some of them on there were last accessed 2/3+ years ago, I'll be discussing with him the possibility of asking staff to remove old files such as these. I don't think this will have a huge impact on the remaining space - especially with the amount of new stuff increasing rapidly! I don't want it to be a case of me saying "Please can we find solution to stop using share1" and them just putting them on to share2. How do you guys deal with this? A thought I had would be to have a small (1/2TB) desktop NAS in their office in RAID1 and for them to place it all on there - the only issue is if they delete something by accident etc then it won't be backed up. I could suggest they keep a DVD copy of each lesson too possibly.. Any ideas would be good, not quite sure how to approach this! Cheers, J

Monitor / OS are sorted - he wants a wireless mouse / keyboard but I trust him enough to do that

Can you get a more powerful battery in there? When I drove my Morris it had a feeble small battery in, replaced it with a battery that was more suited to starting a larger diesel car and never had a problem again!

Hi all, I've come into possession of an enlarger so I can now start doing darkroom stuff again woohoo! Can anyone recommend / point me how to create a timer (or purchase one...) - I'd need 2 dials - 1 with second intervals and the other with 10 second intervals. Would need to be 240v in and normal plug socket out, although I could cut/edit the cable from the enlarger if easier. Cheers, J! Edit - I would also need an override to turn the light on without needing the timer for focussing!

What's the uncompressed footage like? If you can see the driver clearly / possibly reg plate surely they can't worm out of that even if the date is wrong?

Had about 1 minutes worth of reasonably heavy snow (enough to make the ground patchy).. about 2 seconds after this about 10 people on Facebook all put up pictures of this "amazing" snow - there was still more grass than snow!!!

Plug mouse in to mains instead of usb/ps2 port? Edit: Our ICT Dept have those headphones and I haven't heard a complaint about them in a few months!

My biggest bug bear with high projectors - We have a really high projector in our sports hall which is used for assemblies 2-3 times a week. Even though it's in a case sometimes if a ball hits it (accident or otherwise) it can misalign the projector just enough to look untidy when it's on the screen (projecting an inch off of one edge) Takes the premises team ~30mins to get all the scaf tower there and set it up for me to climb up, gently rotate it back taking all of 1 minute for them to have to take it down and put it all away - approximately an hours prep for 1 min of "work"!

As unixman_again has said - if it's got a plug (and sometimes even if it doesn't...) it's my problem. Here speakers / projectors in classrooms are completely classed as IT (Though if I have a big problem with amp/speaker setup in a classroom I'd rope in the music tech teacher who doesn't mind helping now and then) My old boss was very savvy with A/V as this was what his degree was in - I can do the basics like set up the microphones / speakers for assemblies etc, and will be sitting in on the main theatre production this year to get more of a grip on that - however the main person that deals with that is the music tech teacher. (I could just about set up the sound to be played from the studio to the theatre, but then throw in belt pack microphones, lighting etc then I'm out of my depth). Before my boss left I was able to have a bit of in house training on our lighting rig (amounted to about 2hrs a month) and I can do a simple stuff like lighting wash / colours, but if they ask for moving heads I can't! (Occasionally have external bookings that ask for lighting). I quite enjoy A/V as it's something a bit different!
