Hi all, Just wondering if you could help - in the odd moments of peace (hah) I'm finally trying to sort our the office + store room. We have a box of 15/20 HDD's that were taken from dead machines for use as spares - I used one the other day and it was obvious it was a duff one as it was clicking away. Aside from listening and seeing if it appears in disk management / explorer is there any software I could run to verify if the hard drive is a good'un or not? Cheers, J

Projector / IWB / PC in all teaching rooms, 1:1 PCs for admin staff, we have about 20 legacy laptops with staff that were here when the school was first built but we haven't replaced any and aren't intending to replace them.

Used to get 2MB/s at my parents house on a good day! I moved out nearer civilisation and went with Virgin fibre... gaming was a whole new experience!!!

Hi all, Fun week this one! Todays issue of choice is problems trying to log on, which seems to be affecting everyone. People are able to get to the "Welcome" screen, but this is where it hangs. I've managed to log in locally and then remote in to the DC which took about 20mins to connect to but otherwise seems okay. I'm able to ping everything and its mum. Any ideas for what to look for would be gratefully appreciated. Cheers, J

What's it on at the mo? I'd try with 9-area first and see what it turns out like (I don't know too much about photography, let alone modern camera stuff! Did my a-level in a dark room )

Got it here, does the job and nice to use -
We don't allow this as half the time when they ask for one when I'm here they ask for the wrong colour anyway....

Hi all, Friday afternoon after a busy week and brain is a bit mushed! I have a PC that's failed to install our SIMS update and upon inspection I think it's this (we had another PC that had the same issue but was able to be resolved with a restart). Any ideas why the pc can ping any other machine / server on the network, but nothing can ping the machine? Cheers, J

Brother used to work in a 3 man team in a large sixth form college... his managed pretty much told him and the other tech if they had no open tickets then they could do what they wanted - sometimes they'd do useful stuff, other times he'd say he'd been playing stuff like TF2 all afternoon!

My first PC had a big side window, enough lights to compete with blackpool in the side and you could see everything in the PC! However when I wanted to watch a movie in bed / leave in downloading or whatever over night those lights got old fast! Latest case has about 2 LEDs (Status ones) and these still annoy me, so they've got blutak over them!!!

Sometimes I feel like I'm just a piece of equipment that sorts out peoples problems... does that count!

If you manage to clean it could you get some sort of self adhesive clear cover for it? Dunno if there is a specific product for mouse mats though so possibly worth testing if you do it, no point in sticking stickyback on it to find out it's affected cursor movement! Could start using these...

Find the nearest chippy or pizza place - you'll be knackered so just going to pick something up for dinner is good! As mentioned before, possibly have a box with the kettle, tea\coffee, squash, enough mugs\glasses for however many people there'll be on the day, biscuits\snacks! (Remember to have a little rest for lunch!!!) Possibly label boxes i.e. kitchen, living room, bedroom1 so you know exactly where you will put the boxes rather than faff about opening them to see what you've put in them?

Have you tried this approach?

When I first got my little quad, I went to a nice big open (and empty!!!) field and took it slowly until I was reasonably competent (By that mean I know I could put it down again even if it wasn't a pretty landing!) When I got it out of the box obviously I read the manual thoroughly and then wondered why it was travelling to one side... I didn't realise I hadn't put it on a flat surface to begin with!

We're very similar in size... 1 year ago we had 2.5 people - 1 Network manager (.5 time) 1 Senior tech (full time) and regular tech, me! (full time) Now it's just me!!!
