My input here, you need to triple check what software you have relies on there actually being Microsoft Office to work. I know SIMS and FMS do for one, you cannot use them with other office suites. You'll be surprised what other software you may have which does rely on it.

As someone that switched from Sysprep'd images to MDT, it is amazing, Deploy OS, boot, deploys applications etc. For your size, I can see MDT being a good solution, you will have minimal touch to put in some details rather than the Zero Touch you can have with SCCM but it will be much easier than clonezilla and sysprep.

Now that would be an idea to get you closer to the person. WiFiMan (or something similar) on your phone. You know what AP is it near, you could play hunt the AP with the signal strength and get it down to it's approximate location, have a member of SLT with you, so you can go "I am pretty sure it is in that area" and they can then attack and scare into submission

for any MIS there are different requirements year on year for the the DfE requires for census returns. Any MIS would need to supply updates and development costs on a rolling basis, this is not just SIMS. Now mavhc, I have sat here quietly but you are trying to wind people up again, well that is how it is coming across, so I would say you need to stop replying for a while now.

Also, if you are using OneDrive for your homefolder, it can cause fun there, you have to disable office managing the document sync

They sent us that email too. I really do not want to move to a hosted model, as we have various integrations etc that require of the full client and command line reporter. Also, I emailed our LEA and I can confirm anyone in Kent, we still have the Kent LA license until April 2024. Really did throw me for one at the end of term.

Sorry to Necrothread this, but are they still really bad? We are currently comparing online payment systems, but have some requirements that are a bit unusual (PFI, Subcontractors etc etc) but sQuid looked pretty good, and not expensive.

I ended up installing these https://visionaudiovisual.com/en/product/tc3-ctl They come with a long long long IR Cable, just attached to a single back box. Learned every IR signal I needed and run from batteries, programmed them for On, Off, Freeze and Source Search, not cheap but cheaper than keep on replacing remotes.

As much as this is a nice idea, I feel it is ultimately flawed. One unsuitable server joined by staff, one dodgy notification, one bit of leaked data from within discord itself and you are opening yourself to a world of hurt. I just think it is the wrong tool for the job, especially when there are plenty of dedicated helpdesk options out there and most can just lift tickets straight from an email.

Glad to have been of help, I was going crazy last Thursday with it all, I didn't deploy a new SSID, I just deployed a new wireless profile to the same SSID with mofified settings in NPS. All of my devices, except for the admin machines, are wireless and are laptops, luckily I had 3 year groups using a user based certificate through Endpoint Manager (formally intune) and a chunk were chromebooks with PSK. So I only had 540odd devices to sort out, if it had been pre-covid times with most of my devices as full domain joined windows, then I would have had at least double if not triple the amount to do.

That is likely to be your problem, I had to change it to PEAP and deploy a new wireless profile to get machine certs to work again. It seems that Smart Card or other certificate is the method affected here, swap to PEAP and then you should be fine, with them falling back to PSK you should be able to push out a new Wireless network Profile and have the machines pick it up.

I had to plug in 540 devices to get them working. What I would say is don't apply the update (if you haven't already) deploy out a new profile with PEAP and a new name via group policy and set that up in NPS and then delete the old one after a week. Then catch the straglers after.

My WiFi broke last week because of it, was set to authenticate as Smartcard or other certificate. Had to do a new NPS Rule and a new GPO profile to make it use Microsoft Protected PEP to make it work and go around all my machines and GPUpdate them to use the new config.

I'll just take it to the PFI company and go, hey, the DfE want you to replace all the cabling around the building (they are responsible for the cables from the cab to the wall-plate). Oh and all the cable runs have been fire sealed so they would all have to be broken and resealed as well. But yes, it is a lot of should on it rather than must, it is when you replace when it isn't working rather than you must upgrade to this now.
