That's exactly what we use - down to the Mifare on one but not the other! We purchased them through DigitalID who we continue to use for cards/ribbons etc. For us it's a lot cheaper then outsourcing (we were paying as much as £3 per card although usually down to around £2 depending on quantity but the blanks are about 42p each and the printing costs take that to probably £1 each although it's the convenience as much as the cost saving, being able to replacea lost card in minutes rather than needing to issue a spare and wait for a replacement is very handy.

Not got the time to read all 17 pages of this one but looking at https://uk.isidewith.com/political-quiz I should vote for the same party I always do although It's surprisingly close to some of the other main parties who I wouldn't vote for in a million years!

And in some cases you then get presented with the next gen models commonly known as 'grandchildren' and although these are cheaper to run (and can be handed back if they start making too much noise or mess) it's still quite expensive.

I always aim for 18c in a server room and although the ambient temperature in the room will usually be more than that the servers are typically directly in the airflow. We did once have a temporary building that had no server room and no A/C, ended up with the server in a locked cupboard under the stairs with no airflow - that must have been 35c or more as opening the door was similar to opening an oven door to take your Sunday roast out (but without the smell of roast beef!). Was only a temporary situation but it actually lasted about 2 years and although the server fans were always going full blast the server only fell over a couple of times in the summer when the ambient temperature was 25c or more to start with

We've been using Impero since 2012 and have just renewed until March of next year, would be disappointed to find that had any relevance to the problem though.

Same problem here - on my PC I am getting "Your Impero Server needs registering or your trial period has expired" and on my Impero Server I am getting a popup in the system tray telling me that not enough licences are available. Trying to run the server application gives me a 'Thank you for installing Impero" startup wizard. I tried to re-register the server using the new portal but no luck. Emailed them twice yesterday but not had a responce - pretty poor, this is obviously something affecting a number of clients - potentially all - so a mass email wouldn't have gone amiss

I use exactly this for RDP to a number of servers, works well enough for our needs. Only difference from your example is that I used non-sequential port numbers (which you may have used for clarity) that were way above any 'standard' ports - 51213, 53497, 61442 type of thing. If you are implementing something similar please ensure all users have strong passwords - no password1 or 12345 type of thing! Our password policy insists on a minimum of 10 characters with uppercaes, lowercase, numbers and special characters all represented.

Try disabling Windows firewall on the server temporarily to see if that fixes it, we run without firewalls on our servers for this exact reason.

Bought the deluxe version on Steam at the weekend but should have checked here 1st and saved some money. Oh well. Good fun although a few years since I played anything similar and I'm finding it odd not to have an 'objective' to aim for. I'm playing far too impatiently at the moment and either build far more than I can afford and go bust or switch on infinite cash and get bored. Only played a couple of hours so far but will definately be playing many more

If all systems are running well and this is pure PC support then 8 PCs per hour sounds not unreasonable. If on the other hand things are running badly and the requirement includes servers at each site as well as infrastructure support then more time will be required - probably pretty much a full time post for the 1st few months at least

Thanks tmoon-mint, that's what I'm thinking of doing Am I limited on the number of iPads I can register using a single AppleID? As mentioned above, somebody here created an AppleID and used it to log into all of the existing iPads (20 of them) - can I use that for the next 20 as well or is there an upper limit on the number you can register? Is that even good practice - maybe I should create a 2nd AppleID called iPadbatch2 or similar and do the same for future bulk purchases. I'm assuming I can use the same AppleID on the MacBook as well but as you can see I know *nothing* about Apple kit

Apple newbie here - never owned or managed any Apple device of any description and know nothing about them at all We purchased a bunch of 2nd hand iPads from a local school that had purchased more than they needed so although they were 2nd hand they were unused although registered with Apple. The school 'de-registered' them before handing them over and it appears that somebody (not me) then created an AppleID and signed into all of the iPads using it. We've now purchased a further batch, this time new/boxed and through a reseller and have also purchased a MacBook Pro to manage them as I was told that's what we needed. What's the simplest way to manage them in terms of locking them down so people cannot install Candy-Crush on them, automatically setting WiFi networks, setting wallpapers and so on and so forth - can I do that using Apple Configurator on the MacBook or do I need a better solution? Some will be used by senior managers exclusively and others by departments - these will be used by a number of people. I need whoever is logged in at the time to be able to access their email and mapped network drives, is that possible? I've read plenty of horror stories about iPads being personal devices not meant to be used n a network and VPP not working or having to apply to Apple to register more than x number of devices without being blacklisted, Bonjour traffic killing networks etc. so I am a little apprehensive about this - 1 MacBook, 40 iPads and zero experience of any of them! MDM software is a mystery to me as we've never had mobile devices of any description beyond Windows laptops and they are easy to manage as they can be domain joined. We are in the process of purchasing a Meraki WiFi solution and that offers a MDM solution - is that better than using Apple Configurator or is there a better (and ideally free/cheap) solution than either?

We are about to replace our existing switches / APs with Meraki equipment and one of the aspects of it that appeals to me is the MDM software (which I have hopefully signed up in time for). Amongst other things this allows us to locate the device on a map and take screenshots, see/kill running processes and so on. I installed this onto both my personal mobile and also a colleagues work owned mobile and showed him what it could do. The next day he came to see me and was absolutely seething, demanding that I REMOVE MY **** SPYWARE FROM THE PHONE NOW!!!!! He then spent the next 15 minutes berating me about human rights, data protection, privacy etc. and said that if it became company policy he would refuse to have a work mobile because IT'S NO **** BUSINESS OF YOURS WHERE I GO IN MY OWN TIME (to portray how this was delivered it would need to be 72pt boldface) I have mixed feelings on this. I agree that we have no right to know where he is in his own time although to be honest, I'm not in the least bit interested in that. However, the benefits that it appears to offer in terms of data protection (ability to remotely wipe the device) and device management (add/remove programmes, lock the device down) are appealing to me. The senior management may also want to be able to track the device in case of theft etc. Do you have similar (or even the same - Meraki Systems Manager / Meraki Dashboard) software and if so how do you explain to your users what it does - how did they take that, did you get the same objections? I've asked senior management for a policy and until that is answered I'll be doing nothing with it but what's the feeling here?

Probably not the right way to do it but I replicated the old server settings to the new server but without authorising the new scope. I then simply unauthorised the old and authorised the new and bingo - job done. Nobody had any problems whatsoever.

Not trying to hijack the thread but is nobody using Meraki? Is that down to price, performance, reliability or something else? It was recommended to me & I liked the look of it and could afford it so I've ordered it - hopefully that wasn't a bad move!

On the basis that I am waiting for delivey of a Meraki WiFi and switch solution I have registered today and added my laptop as we won't have installed it by the 24th March...or 24th April but hopefully by 24th May!

Looks like I'm the sole person who does - Nobody (including the IT team) has admin access on their account so if any admin work needs to be done we log in as the administrator. My predecessor (who still works for us but in a different role) has access to it as does my FD although as both have been here in excess of 10 years and have access to all systems this is not considered a risk.

Another factor that is sometimes overlooked is the expected/desired lifetime of the server - this usually includes looking at the immediate HDD requirement and factoring in a growth factor. I've seen servers purchased with 2tb HDD space to replace old servers that also had 2tb with 1.9tb in use...not going to last the expected 5 years without an upgrade of some description!

I'll pass thanks - not just on this but on ANY Internet-connected health monitor as I'm firmly of the belief that this is just another avenue to finding out information about you including in this case your heartrate, blood-pressure (maybe not now but at some point in the future), heart rhythm, exercise levels and so on. This information will the be sold to the highest bidder who may just happen to be a health insurer or mortgage company- I'b be getting offers on low cost funerals and weight loss clinics!
