  1. Ok so following on with this, im trying to see if its a waste of money upgrading these 3 com switches. What do people look for when upgrading switches? Other than port speed. These 3Com switches are 1gps so replacing them with HP2500 series switches (at 1gbps) would this be not much point? They will be used as edge switches.
  2. Thank you, will check soon
  3. To be honest I don`t know, these were installed around 4/5 years ago, whats the best way of checking?

  5. Was thinking more performance wise
  6. Looking at upgrading our edge switches, currently we have a number of 3com baseline 2900 and 4200 series. Not recieving any complaints but would i benifit much by replacing these with say HP 2500 series switches?
  7. Your right, a re-image is a lot quicker than manually trying to fix WU issues. We just image them here to save time, like you said, the main culprits I`m sure are pupils\staff switching PC`s off whilst in the middle of updating. It would be nice to be able to fix them other than re-image (just for a knowledge perspective more than anything) but it does waste hours trying to fix them.
  8. Every month we must have 4/6 failed updates on clients which we can never clear other than a re-image. Although a re-image is probably quicker, Ideally I would like to be able to fix these other than a re-image. Is there any other processes people use other than the ones listed below for fixing these failed client updates? Manual update update failed updates by downloading individual files from MS stop WU service and rename "Softwaredistribution" folder, start WU service and re check. Script to delete WSUS id`s and "detect now" Cheers
  9. Yeah dont need anything special just something to build on really. Anyone willing to share their code i would be grateful
  10. Hi all, Could some one point me in the direction of sourcing a basic intranet page.. theres lots of information we would like to get across to staff and pupils and im thinking this would be the best idea. If anyone could share theirs that would be great. I wod start building my own but i dont have the skills or time to. We have a moodle install which we could use for it (which has been offline for a year due to lack of use) but im thinking that is a bit overkill for what i need.
  11. I`m writing a development plan for the next few years and I`m wondering if anyone can share any ideas to take the school hardware (in the classroom) to the next level in ICT. At the moment In the classroom we have the pretty standard setup....IWB/projector, PCs are i5\8gb RAM\SSD etc...no real complaints and the teachers would happily plod on using this technology for the next 5 years but I would like to a level past this. Most of our IWB are 10 years old so Obvious ideas would be replace the IWB\Projectors with Touchscreens?. I would like to get (to a certain level) a "wow" factor instead of kit that was really new technology 10 years ago. What`s everyone else`s set-up in the classroom and any suggestions welcome. There`s a multitude of upgrades I have planned behind the scenes but teachers\SLT rarely see or acknowledge this.
  12. Thanks for your views, I think a block on audio\video is the way forward short term and then sharing from Office 365 long term from September maybe
  13. Yeah got FSRM setup on all folders other than a folder that they might need to save music\audio files into. They then save all Music\video into here!.
  14. Right, I`m after some ideas on the best use of the Pupils Document share. Currently we have a simple Mapped Network share for the pupils to drop their work in for the staff to collect. This gets abused by both Staff and pupils! The pupils copy their work in to a number of folders with "Modify" permissions which they then copy the files from their user area to there. As well as copying their work they also copy music and videos into there thus clogging up the drive! Staff are also asked to move these files off the drive (to the staff drive) for marking. Which they never do!. We now have GB and GB of data sitting on there. My vision is for them to use Office 365`s offering and using Teacher dashboard, but this has never got off the ground!. What does everyone else do to manage pupils sharing work with the teachers over the network?
  15. Currently I have my vCenter VM`s on a server with a few other server VM`s, Where does everyone have their vCenter servers located? Would it be best practice to have these on a seperate Hosts to any other VM`s or are they OK on a server amongst other VM`s? Cheers
  16. I to was having issues with this, removed KB3114717 and now seems to be ok (tested in two IT suites), Removed this through WSUS, what has everyone done with the "unapproved" KB3114717? Its currently sat in my WSUS console (Failed and needed updates) as "unapproved".
  17. I'm looking into a dedicated Veeam backup server also, just a few questions, is this a physical or virtual box? and what spec is the server you running it on?
  18. Sounds good, is there a way round the 10gb limit though on team site?
  19. I agree, the only way for people to use it is by forcing them to use it. I`m getting there slowly, another training session last week which a number of staff were shown it use.
  20. Thanks, Does it need to be a good spec server?, obviously the more storage the better
  21. Could anyone advise on specs for the Veeam server? I have an old server Im going to virtualize but not sure if its up to it?!
  22. I was wondering if any one can answer a few questions regarding Veeam Is the 2 Socket bundle for the Server you install it on? or including all servers that backup to it? I have a Physical server that I going to virtualize, its rather old but might do the job. Could anyone give an example of their setup? cheers
  23. yeah weve had problems this morning, I put it down to the "Service degraded" on O365 Admin centre
  24. My vote would go to Abtutor - Its £250 for one license!, install it on all the networked PCs - Job done
