Need to change the password length on our domain to stop the pupils setting their password to blank. I have changed this in their pupil policy but they still can do it. Im guessing its in the DD policy that i need to change? Only concern is what knock on effect this has on anything else, Will this force our domain admin accounts to need to be changed? If i change it to say 6 characters will this force all passwords lower than this to change? Not changed a DD policy before so just airing on the side of caution!! cheers

Hi, I need to move 2 VM`s from an ESXI Host to another. We don't have shared storage only local. I'm just wondering if anyone can share their experience and if it went as straight forward as it sounds on the article on Here on the VMware knowledgebase. Ones a DC and another`s a member server. How long does it take etc... cheers

Yep, this is driving me mad!. I`ve sent out 2 emails in the last few days asking people to change this, but of course no one bothers reading them and then everyone gets pointless replies. Its only a matter of time before someone balls it up! Hope they sort a site wide fix soon!!

Just made the change and already seems to be quicker! Didnt have to restart any services either which was a bonus!

Had our SQL upgraded on our SIMS and PARS server over the summer and now both are absolutely creeping!!. It was a little slow before the summer so i upgraded the RAM from 8gb to 32gb. Getting alot of complaints. Logged a call with the LA for advice Anyone got any tips on whats causing it and anything to change? Surely its not just me! God knows what it would have been like if i`d have left the server at 8gb RAM Cheers

After the shambles at our place with getting usernames together this week when new staff arive at our door i was wondering if it would be a good idea to put it all in a little booklet? Hi, many thanks for the repies, the switches are HP v1910s and 3Com 2950. 1 Switch is Vlanned and still works fine. Yes they are Web managed switches. So the best way would be to console into the switch and assign the ip that way? I checked by scanning a range of IP addresses (using an IP scanner) that i have used for all the switches. (which would pick up all manually and dynamically assigned addresses), it found a few switches in other cabinet around school but none of the others.

We had a power cut several months ago and when all the switches came back up i have noticed i cant get to them via their manually assigned IP address. So i though they might just need a reboot, i rebooted (and also left off for a while) one of the offending edge switches (that didnt have any nodes on) and then plugged it back in. Still didn't get an IP. It had not even resorted to a dynamicaly assigned IP. Is it going to be a case of rebooting the core switches first for the others to recieve one?. (All these switches are connected in to the 2 core switches). Is there another way of accessing these without having to just power cycle them? Regards

I want to Disable a DFS replication between 2 Internal servers as we no longer need this. Before i do this i just want to be sure it isn't going to screw anything up. So if i just disable\delete the replicated folders this should just stop it between the 2 servers right? Thanks in advance

Link is 1gig Better performance yes and generally want to get rid of the 3Com switches (but i don't really have any argument for this other than they are old)

I think my first few question`s to be answered would be - Would i benefit much from replacing all of the 3 Com edge switches and replace them with say HP v1910`s? Or am i not going to benefit much from doing that and concentrate more on the Core switches? Regards

Hi, Yes i have heard the 5400 series comes highly recommended, what model do you have? With regards to the edge switches, we have a number of HP POE switches currently so we can use these for POE, would probably just need some thing like we currently have such as the HP v1910, my only question with these are, is it worth going for a newer spec or do you think these are ok for a direct replacement for the 3 Com switches? Hi, We have some money to upgrade our switches, can anyone give me advice on our current spec and what models need upgrading. I'm right in thinking that the core switches need an upgrade as these are a quite old model. Could anyone suggest what they use for their Core switches, I would like to stay HP. Hi, Just setting up a new server with 5 disks andim wondering if any one would advise setting it up with 2 arrays or 1 Maybe 1 array as RAID 1 (for the OS) and the other as a RAID 5 (for the data) Or just a RAID 6 for all 5 disks? What does everyone else do? Regards

Hi, Im speccing up a new server and i was wondering how many disks i should go for?, 3 or 5?. This will be used as a VMware Host with multiple VM`s. The main one being a fileserver. So looking at a minimum of 2tb storage space Thanks in advance

ok, thanks for the advice. This is part of an existing network, currently have 5 other VM ware hosts. Purchasing this to move over current VM`s to Win 2012 R2 replacing Physical servers that are running out of disk space \ slower servers Pretty much a newbie when spec`ing up Servers so want to get it right.
