  1. Thanks, cant seem to find this?, where is it?
  2. Does anyone know an easy way of checking on usage of services? Such as how many have installed the Proplus option and also usage of Onedrive? I Know you can check this on an individual basis but thats rather time consuming! Cheers
  3. We currently store our 250gb worth of Tech resources just on a Network share but just wondering if anyone does this any other way? We have a Team Site set-up for our team where we store docs but your limited to 10gb on there! cheers
  4. Definitely Spam, rather rude ones as well! Its not happening to anyone else just this user so makes me think she has clicked on something!.
  5. Yes my thoughts exactly, i find untill someone wants to do something only then will people take it on board. I find when i push something directly from me no one is really that bothered. What annoys me is when you have something in place, they then go off on there own and do it their way, only months later realise the setup i put in place is far better and easier!
  6. I Suppose patience is the key with this one I think, although use of Office 365 (or lack of it) is just part of a wider frustration I have with use of ICT through out my school. 80%+ staff just use ICT in school to the minimum and this annoys me. As mentioned above if SLT dont push it then it rarely gets of the ground but if they do its the complete opposite. But that`s the case with a lot of things in schools i suppose!?
  7. Yes, the Onedrive desktop sync tool is pretty poor, I`m always getting sync errors on my installation and I don`t have much confidence in it at all, so pushing it to the staff is particularly hard. At present my install is currently syncing 4 files and has been for the ladt few days!, it doesnt show any files that are trying to sync!.
  8. I think from my experience the easiest way is the one most used. Its easier for them to save it to usb then go through two more clicks to save to onedrive. I very rarely use USB sticks now either, only to drop some drivers on etc..
  9. The annoying thing on top of this is the staff (and really is the ict staff) is they dont make the pupils know that all these services are available either. Every pupil that comes to reset password dont have any clue they have an email account. Only over the last few months with my hardwork are they getting to use it. Makes me think sometimes what is the point caring so much!
  10. Yeah i have considered disabling usb drives but i think without a really solid reason there would be uproar.
  11. Would like peoples views on their schools use of Office 365 services? We implemented O365 back in the summer and since then I have found it very difficult to get the staff (and pupils) to use many of the services. Apart from Mail hardly anything else is used. I have pushed and pushed Onedrive, FREE office pro plus, teacher dashboard no one seems to have any interest in using any of these. I have done training sessions on basic use and whats available but out of 100 staff only 8 turned up! Pen drives drive me mad!, every now and again a teachers drive becomes corrupt and I inform them to use Onedrive to store their data, but It get totally ignored! Numerous emails have been sent out informing them they can install Office on up to 10 devices but I still get asked the question months later "How can I get a free copy of Office 2013?" What use from staff do you get from your Office 365?, I think its great and offers so much for Education. Our ICT teachers are the worst in school, I don`t think any of them use it other than to check their mail! Drives me mad! Rant over!
  12. One user only is receiving a high amount of Spam, we use Office 365 and their spam filtering has dealt with these brilliantly for over a year now, is there anyway this can be dealt with other than inputting every domain name in to the spam filtering in Office 365? She blocks the sender on her Outlook client but these seem to be different domain names every time so I don`t think were going to achieve anything by blocking each one! She keeps forwarding every email to me which is becoming a pain! Cheers
  13. I'm just picking my MCSA up again to beef my CV up. I'm hoping to get it finished and pass the 3 exams by the end of the year. IMO the MS route is better for techs working in schools. The Cisco certs I have studied part of the CCNA and I found I will never need 95% of this when working in a school. It all depends on your plan on where you want to be though.
  14. Yeah they do, probably going to go down this route cheers
  15. Does anybody know where I can buy MS Exam vouchers? (So i can then book parts of the MCSA exam modules) Ideally I want to buy these though school using a Purchase order (Using our CPD budget) Failing this I will have to buy these myself and claim the money back cheers

    Spare disks

I Have a bit of spare money and just wondering would it be worth having a spare HDD for all our servers to replace if one fails. We have a support contract on all important servers (next business day) so should one fail we can get it replaced within a day. But i suppose its that time between it failing and receiving the new disk is the need for one?
  17. Thanks John, im in Lancs, I just spoken to TASC and they are sending me some info on supporting us direct
  18. Yeah im a little confused as to what they mean, we definately pay for PARS support through our SLA including sims supports etc.. but any support calls for PARS we log direct through TASC. Then im wondering how TASC know we have paid for support? or do our LA contact TASC once we pay and notify them we have paid for support?
  19. Just had a letter from our Education support services informing us that they wont be offering any more support for PARS Lesson Registration. Is it possible to get support direct from TASC for this? There trying to push SIMS lesson monitor as a replacement but the cost was about £5K last time i checked! cheers
  20. Thanks for this info, i will give it a go
  21. Ok thanks, yeah i have a few old servers hanging around. I will give it a try with one of those. So i would connect one of the disks to the server on its own? or additional to the ones already in there?
  22. thanks for help. Its 2 disks so I`m thinking it will be a Raid 1 config. Their SCSI drives. What would be the best way of connecting these up to check?
  23. Really hoping this is possible!. Long story short a we had a (Old old) Sims server which used to be used at a school we amalgamated with and I will soon be needing to get data off. Only problem is I have recycled the server (but kept the disks) Is it possible to connect these disks up to another server and copy the data off? (Like you could with a PC) There old SCSI drives which would have been on an RAID array. Thanks in advance
  24. Ok thanks for this. Licensing wise - I have been quoted for The essential and also the Essential Plus - What benefits does the Essential Plus give you? And i see its 2 Socket bundle, would this be for the server i use for backing up TO - i.e if I installed it on a Physical box running W2k12 Thanks
  25. Sorry to hijack the thread but i thought it would be best to post in here other than start another thread. I've been wanting to implement Veeam for sometime but the lack of funds got in the way. I have a few questions - 1. Is it beneficial to use Veeam when our VM`s are all on local storage? 2. With our local storage setup would you setup a VM for Veeam and the use this as the Backup server? cheers
