Can the capping of the SQL Sims instance be done whilst users are using Sims? We have are having problems with performance, more evident now we have moved to Pars connect and when doing a performance check all problems relate back to SQL

Thanks everyone for the feedback, The servers are Dell Poweredge R720`s, SAS Disks. Reading the reviews on the Synology NAS drives this seems to be a very good option that I will look into, Would you recommend these to use for a Datastore, moving a few VM`s off my hosts to this might be an option.

Whats everyone using for storing pictures?? (Using Office 365), Were using "videos" for storing all the vids but need something similar for Pictures -
Ahh ok, Yeah thought it might be on the cheap side, I will look into building up our server storage then thanks

Currently we have 3 VMware hosts with local storage for our VM`s and were at the point now where we need more storage, so whats the best route to take? Buy a SAN and transfer all the datastores to this or buy more disks for the servers and continue with locally attached storage? If a San, Can anyone recommend one up to the £4-5k mark?

Thanks for the info. Whats the best restore scenario with domain controller VM`s? Am I right in thinking its not a good idea restoring a DC as you would with File servers etc...
-
Anyone got any ideas on this?

Got in this morning to find one of our VMware VM`s down and when powering on I receive an error that the VM is corrupted, so not to worry all backups are up to date, will restore from backup. Now this is where I`m not sure of the correct procedure? Should I restore from the Snapshot in VMware (right click VM > Snapshot manager > Go to "recent snapshot"? (What I have done) We use Veeam and there`s backups of the VM in there, also a DR site with a replica of this VM, what is the correct procedure for this in future. One of these days it will be a more important server! Thanks

Tidying up the staff drive of pictures and videos and finding 1000`s of Pictures of school events that will never see the light of day again. Staff seem to have the mindset of Event = Take loads of pictures = dump them on the school network for them to be never used again. Anyone have any bright ideas as how to manage this?! Go Pro seems to be the PITA at the moment, we have around 30 of these and they take up so much space!!

Just wondering if people allow pupils access to their personal emails, I`m thinking it maybe a security risk...Viruses etc...

Yep got it added there (in managed servers\standalone hosts) Im on the licenced VMware and Veeam

I thought this was going to be pretty straightforward but I seem to be going round in circles Setup VMware vCenter with 3 hosts - Fully Licensed Veeam Enterprise License In Veeam I have these 3 hosts and all VM`s are backing up to a NAS without any problem I have a spare VMware ESXI host (Where I setup a VM with a share to backup to) which I want to replicate VM`s to this (for DR Purposes). When I create a replication job from the VM I can only select a destination as one of the 3 hosts and not my spare Host. Am I missing something?

Staff running\saving .exe - Do you allow it?
maxrebo replied to maxrebo's topic in How do you do....it?
thanks everyone a lot of info there to work through -
Trying to nail down certain areas of the network to prevent Crypto locker, what do people do with regards to staff saving .exe \ zip files? Do you allow them at all (in any area) (Home folder \ staff drive) or block them entirely? Trying to find and happy medium for everyone.

Every since day dot our LA have told us we need to give the user local admin right to use the SIMS FMS module. Has anyone got it working without this as this is a pretty big security hole!. We give the user full control of the Sims folder in C:\program files\Sims but without Local admin they get errors when opening purchase orders.

I think the staff member has to have a start date in their Sims profile, then they will appear in SMHW

Is there any Virtual labs for the HP Procurve series? (or HP switches in general) To save all the hardware and trailing leads!. I have looked in the past but only found Cisco Virtual labs. Dont mind paying a bit for one either
