  1. Im not really sure what Im after here, but here goes.. We have a network share drive that has all our documentation created over the years. Its a bit of a mess, and finding stuff takes ages. All of it is word docs, apart from the odd xls of serial numbers etc. What Im looking for, is some way to have all these documents stored online, and somehow indexing them so they are searchable by keyword etc. Does such a system exist? What should I be looking at? Cheers

  7. i remotely manage a small network, and im looking for a way to be notified by email of a new device joining the network. DHCP is running on a 2008R2 server, so I guess simply being notified of new DHCP requests and/or acks would suffice. Is there such a service i can install on either the win or the linux servers on the network? Reason is its a very static network, which isnt meant to have any new devices, so Im just wanting to be on the lookout.. Im not wanting to block any new devices, because they may well add more, i just want to be informed when it happens, without having to RDP into the DHCP server and check the leases.. Cheers!

  9. OK it seems there is something.. Netsh Commands for Windows Firewall with Advanced Security But I cant quite figure out the syntax... I want to allow all local IPs to port 3389 (rdp) but only allow IP 1.2.3.4 and 5.6.7.8 from the intenet.. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Cheers
  10. used to be smart trousers, shirt, and tie. Which in 43C days awas a bit painful. Then I started wearing crappy shirts when I knew there was a messy job to be done, and no tie.. Eventually managed to get them to provide us with 2 short sleeve shirts and 2 long sleeve shirts with the school logo and IT Dept on them, so now just wear them, with no tie. Makes us all look smart, and means im not worrying about ruining my own good stuff. Also managed to talk them into a jacket and a couple of jumpers for winter too
  11. I just replaced the battery on my car thinking it was stuffed. Turns out it was the connector that had cracked and come loose and wasnt making a full connection. $179 wasted.. guess its a lesson learnt though for the future.
  12. i took a call once, and when i asked for the persons name, they said it was Mr. G. Obee.. I ended the call with calling him Mr Gob. Thought he was spelling it out to me.. wanst untill the follow up email I realised my faux pas.
  13. ive had a nokia phone of some iteration since i first got one in 1998. Ive used a HTC Win7 phone and didnt like it at all.. currently have an E71 and I like it due to the QWERTY. I guess it doesnt really matter what OS it runs its the design of the phone that matters
  14. I dont have access to moodle its run by a compltetly different department from IT. Co-branding was enabled at day 1 and has been working flawlessly. The thing is, when we first installed the plugin I had to hack a piece of php of the plugin to get it to work with our moodle. Im just wondering if oiur moodle guys have maybe upgraded / reinstalled moodle or somehitng and havent re-hacked this bit of code. Also, is there a new plugin? It seems they might have upgraded it in the last few months? Im not sure what the AppID is though?

  18. had a whole bunch of students come to us today that the live@edu plugin for moodle has stopped working. It takes them to the live@edu login page, but then doesnt take them back to moodle, it presents some moodle page about the liveid not being found or something.. Is anynoe else experiencing this issue, or has our moodle admin been messing with things (moodle etc is a diff dept to IT)
  19. does delia smith live there?
  20. My hardware firewall is just a netgear adsl modem. I use port forwading to servers, and on my linux boxes i run iptables to limit connections to certain IPs. Im wanting to forward 3389 (rdp) to a windows machine, but I want to limit connections to certain IPs only.. Is there anything in windows I can use to do this, or perhaps a 3rd party (free) application I can use? Cheers
