Im wanting to use freeradius on ubuntu to authenticate our wireless clients from AD. All the wireless devices MAC addresses are listed as users in AD, and the wireless controller uses these usernames to authenticate in AD. At the moment we use IAS on 2003 and it seems to be playing up, so I want to try it out on ubuntu. The actual encryption of the Wifi is already taken care of. Never dabbled with connecting linux to AD so a comeplete newbie on that part, so any step by step guides for what im looking for or a point in the right direction would be great.. cheers!

Adding a 2nd Exchange 2010 Server
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Existing one does everything and is setup for external OWA, Outlook anywhere, mobile phone, etc.. it does everytinig exept for Unified Messanging. It has 1 database. I have used the Move mailbox command to move the mailboxes to the new server's database, and all seems to be working OK. So I guess I just need to go thru all the settings and make sure they match the old one, and then update the firewall to point to the new IP, and then re-import the certificate. Reinstalling the OS only takes a couple of minutes. Plus it will let me go straight to SP1 of 2008R2. -
Adding a 2nd Exchange 2010 Server
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
OK so DAG will not be an option at the moment, because the existing server Exchange is on is only 2008R2 Standard, not enterprise, and so doenst include the failover cluster stuff.. Ive installed a new instance of Exchange 2010 with all the roles onto 2008R2 Enterprise, what do I need to do to move evertything onto this new server so I can wipe the old 2008R2 Standard and re-install with Enterprise? -

I already had a new database, but by deleting that federation thing from the old/broken database it seemed to remove the entry in AD too. Running that command seems to have brought back the AD entry.. Its late now, but will report back tomorrow how things are. Thanks for your continued help. -

Hi suk, this is all test, the entire AD, DC, exchange, etc I have found this link: When you try to install the Exchange Server 2010 Mailbox role, the installation process fails and run the command: New-Mailbox -Arbitration -Name FederatedEmail.4c1f4d8b-8179-4148-93bf-00a95fa1e042 -UserPrincipalName FederatedEmail.4c1f4d8b-8179-4148-93bf-00a95fa1e042@ which I think has fixed things.. will report back soon! Thanks -

yeh, i must have mis-typed it first time round, and you were all right about the cause and resolution.. Anyway, as previously mentioned, this is just my own testing 'playground' arena for 2010 exchange so I can hopefully fsk it up as much as possible and learn things from it.. Our production exchange (2007) runs on proper hardware, with proper backups, and Im not even looknig to upgrade that to 2010 exchange until at least the end of the year... -

they both werent active at once no.. i shutdown the real one and switched to the virtual one for sp1 installation, it failed, so i shut it down and rebooted the other one, which just picked where it left of and is working fine. What modifications does sP1 make to AD out of interest, i hadnt thought of that.. Also, the old databse is offline/dismounted and inactive etc I could just do a fresh sp1 integrated exchange install on another vm and move the mailbox accross, but Im interested in learning about what the error means.. -

Find AD computers no longer in school
RabbieBurns replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
a similar dsquery command is what i was about to post and is by far the easiest way.. we have an active and up to date asset database of computer names and serial numbers, but it doesnt stop stale machine names being stuck in AD.. dsquery computer -inactive 8 -limit 0 will find all computers in Active Directory that have not been logged into during the past 8 weeks and after reviewing this list to make sure these computers no longer exist on your network you can use the following command to find and delete them: dsquery computer -inactive 8 -limit 0 | dsrm (credit to here which I used back when I was going through this) -
on my testbed exchange 2010 box, i took a p2v of it and tried to upgrade to sp1 on the resulting VM.. This install only has 1 active mailbox so its not exactly used much. It failed at the Mailbox upgrade part, and completely stuffed the install.. I think its due to when I tried to move the mail database, and it corrupted, and I had to create a new database, and migrate the few test mailboxes to the new one, but the old one is still there. Trying to delete the old database, I get the following: Ive deleted all the old inactive test mailboxes in the exchange, and running the 2 commands above doesnt list any mailboxes any more.. But I still cannot delete the old database... Any suggestions? Cheers

Ordered a 5 domains/5 years using the REV11 discount code for 15% off the total, from GoDaddy, with big thanks to Arthur. Total was $300 AUD which is less than a third of the cost of the price of a single cert for a single year from verisign! In the good books today saving them a fair chunk of cash. Also, phoned their support twice today and got straight through (less than 10 mins wait) Cheers for all the other suggestions too folks, and hopefully this thread will be helpful to others in the same boat too..

OOPS - Disabled NIC on a remote computer
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
thanks for the reply and points are all valid I must point out however this is just a machine running at my parents place back in scotland that I use for testing purposes, and they use as a fileserver.. Reason i never reconnected the KVM was i was only home for xmas for a week and ran out of time as was out and about. The main reason I have this test setup, is so I make any mistakes on this, and not on a live mission critical system.. -
Our SSL dert is up for renewal, and Verisign are quoting us nearly $1000 a year for just a single mail.blah cert.. I use StartSSL for my cert at home, which is free, and looking around GoDaddy do a single cert for about $50 a year.. Who do you all use for your certificates? Im contempating getting a wildcard cert so I Can install it on the firewall and spam appliance to get rid of the ssl errors, does a wildcard work with exchange (2007 btw)?
