  1. i can do oil, and water, but thats about my limit Cheers for the advice so far.. All the forums ive browsed so far seem to be boy racers who are trying to out-do themselves with how much theyve pimped their mother an how fast theyve driven in a 30 Zone..
  2. HyperV runs on bare metal and the hypervisor loads before the actual operating system. As mentioned above you can run the barebones hyperV core and just install the management console on a seperate machine.. We went HyperV as we were already fully MS licensed anyway
  3. Having progressed through the stages of driving the parents cars, buying my own cheapy POS first car, and now finally owning a car worth caring about, Im wondering what information there is out there for maintenance / car etc? Its a 1994 BMW in amazing condition, which has a full service history with a local garage here, so Ill keep taking it there for its annuall service, but I wouldnt mind learning a bit about them (cars in general). Without wanitng to train as a fully fledged mechanic, I wouldnt mind doing some traning so I get a better understanding of what goes on under the bonnet.. (to be honest, ive never even changed a tyre ;/) Is there any books worth reading? Or are there basic car maintanence courses run? Obviously my location will skew the answers a bit insofar as the most of them wont be relevent for where I am, but it would be good to know what sort of equievelents I could look for.. Would it be worth buying the service manual and just reading that?
  4. Is this restricted to IE or does it happen in other browsers too?
  5. Very true. Now you mention it, I did spend hours messing with IP tables to be able to get passed through to the entire LAN at the other end. And also for the default gatway to be changed to force all traffic through the VPN.
  6. We have recently taken over managing the AV in our school, and Im looking into a better way for the staff to book our resources.. The current way, is they email us an outlook appointment which we have created, and it goes into our shared outlook calendar once we accept it. If theres a clash, we decline it with an explaination. IMO tihs is a very tiresome approach. We do all our communicating via email, so a web based booking system isnt an option as it just wouldnt work, but I cant help but feel there is a better way. Staff send through an email to the AV email address requesting us, then we have to email/phone them back, to tell them to send us through the meeting request (powers that be only accept it in this matter) Suggestions most welcome for how I can make this situation better for both us, and for staff..
  7. We moved to the schools agreement about a year and a half ago, so windows 7 was a nobrainer for us. Over the summer (xmas) holidays we have pretty much upgraded everything to windows 7, with the exception of the Finance dept and related computers who will move over slowly and carefully.. We started off with a voluntary group of staff who we upgraded first, about 20 of them, and through their feedback we tweaked our images/settings etc till we got it right.. We then just let staff come and see us in an adhoc manner and migrated them one at a time over the space of about 6 months so it was a gradual change. This actually snowballed, as staff wuold see the new shiny windows 7, and then feel left out or whatever, and want it for themselves.. We got a new batch of laptops halfway through last year that we put windows 7 on, so the students got a taste of it, and now when they start back in Feb all their machines will be 7.. Got a PD week coming up soon, which we have been given 2x 4hr sessions dedicated to windows 7 / office 2010, so hopefully come the start of term, it should be plain sailing.. (not sure if this answers your question or if ive just rambled)
  8. incidentally and a bit off topic, I cannot import the admx files, only adm. The majority of our servers have been upgraded to 20888R2 and its one of them im using, but is the reason that we still have a couple of 2003 still kicking about?
  9. Good points raised in your blog. However 100% of the people who have moaned about this are admin staff who spend most of their time writing letters, the first 5-10 lines of which are an address, which doesnt need a space between each line. However, I will just tell them about ALT+Enter instead of messing around with ADM files and stuff.. Thanks SYNACK!

  17. How does that work? Is it true SSO? As far as I was aware, the moodle plugin, whilst working with the same set of credentials, required you to log in to live@edu once you had logged into moodle (at least, thats how it works here)
  18. hmm ignore me, it was the Default Reply address setting I was thinking of. Sorry

  21. Cheers.. Ill have a play tomorrow but if I cant figure it out that would be great, cheers.
  22. TechSoft 2D Design CAD/CAM Software Got a site license for this, and get given the nstallation CD AFTER we have reimaged the entire school (2000+) machines. So now need to get this onto about 65 machines... There doesnt seem to be any instrucitons about deploying it. Does anyone use this software, and is there away to deploy it via MSI or something ?
