That is the type of answer i am looking for. These are non-domain laptops and are 7 hours away from here, so I cant manage them. They are not connecting properly to a wireless network that is being created where they are, and the supplier of the network is blaming it on not being able to set the network location as "it needs to be set to allow routing". I dont think this is correct and your answer helps. Could you provide any link I can use as evidence to prove our point? Cheers

Yes I'm sure I want wireless. Each building back to the main. The buildings are a variety of dorm rooms and class rooms. Its just a remote campus we use for one term out the year for a 'camp' type thing, there's never more than 50 folk there. There is no network to speak of, no servers, just a slow internet link in the main building. The wireless links back to the main building are just to provide internet only to the buildings. Nothing fancy. There's never more than 20 or so using the internet at a time.

Choosing a network location Can anyone confirm to me that if you do NOT choose one of the options and just close the window, the network should still work? Ive got some laptops that are popping up with it and its asking for the local admin password for them to be able to set location. I don't really want to give out the local admin account, but I think that it should work without setting it if you just close the window?

We have a building arrangement at a remote campus as follows, the distances range from about 20 to 100m between buildings, and all have direct line of site back to the main building: We want to have wireless connectivity in each building, and also wireless p2p links back to the main building, so all network traffic goes out the filtering firewall. We have employed an external contractor to provide the p2p antenna and links and stuff, and I went to check up on it over the weekend... The way it has been set up is completely different from the way I would have done it, so what I'm looking for is to get some ideas of how you guys would do it, including how you would IP addresses you would use, so I know I am right in thinking he is making real a mess of things.. The firewall device is set for DHCP to give out IPs to the wireless clients.

aye works fine with all other browsers on all other OS just ffox on mac thats the problem. Its starting to sound more likely what you have said so will check that first thing monday. Cheers

what plugin would I need? Ill have a test when I get back to work on monday dont have anything mac with me here... @CESIL its just meant to go to the pdf file, not sure what the secure thing is about unless its checking to see if user is logged on... It might be downlaoding the pdf and naming it php i have no idea. Ill investigate more on monday, thanks

i have stopped bothering with updates for our wifi devices and only do it when we reimage them once a term. The lenghth of time they take to do reboots and reconfigure after updates is just too detrimental, especially if they have been used one lesson, the updated downloaded, and then the next lesson restarted, and the updates install / reconfigure can take up most of the lesson. Ive taken the same approach with the staff laptops as they just moan when their laptop sits at installing update stage 1 of 3 at 8:30 am when they need to login to take the roll, most of them were just turning it off and on again which would cause errors etc..

This is site developed and maintained by a 3rd party for us. Are there errors in that code we need to get them to fix?

Title pretty much explains it all, issue persists in FireFox 5.0.1 on the Mac OS X (not lion the one before that). Works fine in Safari. Is this a client side error, or do i need to get the developers of the website to fix something?

surely anyone who has used a switch would have used a serial cable with an RS232 connection? Or at least read about it or heard about it. I think that MrBios is right. I mentioned in there about the access denied thing but I dont seem to have posted a follow up to how i fixed it. From memory though, I think it was this page "Access Denied" Error Synchronizing Encrypted Offline Files that pointed me in the right direction. I didnt look to fix the encryption, I just took the easy option and disabled it.

I had the same read only issues, which disappeared when i disabled encryption

$1000 up front and then $200 a year after that. Guess that will have to do..

cheers, but what about the cameras? How do I go from a video camera onto the network? Apart from webcams build into laptops, I dont think we have an IP camera. Will we need to buy one or is there some sort of digibox interface box we can buy ?

got it up and running. Thanks. Seems the SAS cables were not plugged in correctly. But now backup exec is bitching it isn't licensed for tape library. We already have backup exec and all the licenses for the servers etc, how much am I looking at to add on support for the tape library?
