The thing is, I have downloaded and ran all the .exe driver files off the dell website for everything.. Ill try uninstalling all the intel stuff and running them again. Cheers.

come back from some time off and theres an optiplex 790 which has been bought, and reinstalled with our enterprise win7 x64 cd theres one device that i just cant seem to get active, It seems the driver is present, but the device is having problems. See attached. Its not something Ive seen before.. has anyone seen this before and knows a quick fix?

i don't like the fact they are removing the start menu. granted, i don't use it to drill down through all program, then find the program I'm looking for, but I do have all my most used apps pinned to the start menu. If theres something i want to run thats not pinned, i just type in the the search bar. Eg just type Word and it launches word. I normally have so many windows open at once that pinning apps to the taskbar is not an option as it takes up way too much space.

I think it would be better to somehow integrate the liveID into AD or something, so that when they login with their normal domain credentials to AD, it then automatically logs them in to Live. So when they go to skydrive, outlook.com etc, they are already automatically signed in. I think this is actually coming with the new office365 to be honest, something to do with ADFS etc and becoming federated between the 2. This is seperate from the idea of the concept of shared settings across multiple PCs, which I think is a great idea for home use, but cant see it being useful in a domain environment.

and also the liveID is the entire email address.. so having to type [email protected] every time you want to log into a machine will be a PITA

Ok i fixed this, simple really.. just restored the registry from the SOFTWARE backup file.

@Gatt, I tried your method and it says I cannot proceed with the upgrade as I have booted from a CD. I Cannot get into the OS to do an upgrade install from within windows.

what im not understanding is why a dodgy hdd would stop me booting from a liveCD? IVe put the hd in a usb caddy just now running chkdsk..

Thanks gatt. Problem seems to be that I cannot even boot from the 2008R2 disk. If I unplug the suspected bad install hdd, it will boot fine from the cd. But with the HDD plugged in as well, it just goes "loading operating system" and then straight to the "windows did not load properly, press blah for safe mode" If I swap out the HDD with a known working install, it boots perfectly. If I put the suspected bad installaiton into another server, this boots fine.

is there a 2008r2 recovery mode? got a server that boots up, but all i get is the mouse pointer. IT wont boot into any of the safe modes either.

We have an issue with our 2055's in that they will print one page landscape then the next page portrait. This has been happening for a while but I keep forgetting to do anythign about it - is this happening to anyone elses?

I watched it last night. Didnt think it was that funny at all. A couple of funny one liners, but that was about it. Shatner was the funniest IMO. Who was the young blonde chick? She was the un-funniest of them all. Just slagged off the other roasters so much it wasnt funny it was just crap.

@plexer, ive never seen the need for a slingcatcher. For me the slingbox is about watching tv on the move, so its normally on a laptop I watch it on. For the odd occasion I do watch it when theres is a TV around, i can just plug the laptop into the tv

it was on comedy central i believe so will no doubt be repeated, i think there are no legitimate downloads, but its obviously available for download if you dont mind the grey area moral / legal constraints of downloading ripped tv off the interwebs.
