how fast is your network? most of my servers have at least 2GB to the core and all switches are at least 10gb so I think my limitation will be how fast it can read off the crappy R5 the files are currently on.

yeh it was a pain to set up I had to do it a few times before I got it wrong.. If you run a pcnscfg.exe -LIST can you paste the results ?

PCNSCLNT i think can be anything, its not a computer name. The computer name comes later in the string when you need to set the spn. Its been a while since I did it, do not sure of ideas a this time of night but will write more in the morning. Have you installed the PCNS client on each and every one of your DC's and rebooted them all?

Im trying to set up squid so I can use it as a proxy, not fussed about any cache config. I want it to pop up and ask for username and password, which can just be contained in a txt file on the server in plaintext. I want to be able to use the proxy from any address so 0.0.0.0/0 mask I think. I used to have this exact configuration working, but with an old version. I cannot get anything from my old conf to work. I keep getting an Access Denied, and dont get any prompt for username and password. Anyone point me in the directoin of a recent How To for the new config file, or is able to knock me up a simple config please? Thanks

Ubuntu includes the HyperV drivers. Once you enable them you can run synthetic network drivers. Altough not officicly supported by Microsoft, it works great. nano /etc/initramfs-tools/modules & add below lines hv_vmbus hv_storvsc hv_blkvsc hv_netvsc then run update-initramfs –u and reboot

where i live just now rabbits are a pest and are shot, poisoned, eaten etc. Just wring their necks and be done with them. They are in the same family as rats, squirrels etc.

Ok just to further update this thread with a bit of information. It seems that even after purging 200 mailboxes the mail database size didnt get any smaller. From research I have to do an offline defrag now to sort out the mail database size.

Thanks for the info, I will try and just cut off the staff access on a weekend and do it so I dont have to mess about with backups etc..

I need to P2V my Main staff file Server. I can only do this during work hours, and I cannot afford any downtime (15 mins - half an hour excepted) so I was going to run the P2V when I left in the evening, and hope that the ~ 1TB over 2 drives was done by the time I got in in the morning. My question is, if staff are writing files to the file server during the P2V process, will they be picked up? Will it do a scan after it has made the VHD and bring accross any files it missed? Or am I going to have to take an incremental backup the minute before i shutdown the physical, and then a incremental restore from that backup once Ive brought up the virtual machine? Also, is there a recommendation for the type of VHD for a fileserver? I know for exchange / SQL etc I need to use a fixed size, but will an expanding size be OK for just a file server? Thanks in advance.

ok, no problem ill set it up for dhcp ubuntu works well with the hyperv synthetic drivers so just import the vhd into hyperv and it will work perfectly with dhcp, I will PM u the local user/ root password etc and also send you the steps i used to install it should you require them for your article

What I'm really after is something from a cite-able source (no offense intended to edugeek or the rest of you guys but Id rather not link to my own threads as a source of evidence) that confirms that having less than 10% of the disk free does not cause detrimental effects on the operation of Windoes.

try nagiosadmin / nagios or nagios / nagiosadmin I know the default used to be one of them (the former is what my own documentation uses by default) Im nearly finished this VHD, you still wanting it? (Im not quite sure yet how/where Ill upload it to get it to you)
