  1. BBC News - Storms start to thrash Scotland http://entertainment.stv.tv/opinion/286086-scotlands-hurricane-bawbag-raises-twitter-storm-the-top-reactions Seems a bit of wind and rain back home.. And here was me going to compain about all the rain we are having here in sydney in summer, the coldest, wettest summer in 60 years... Is it related????
  2. I inherited a sphos network when I took over here, but havent really given it much of a look except to make sure its updating. Its still running Enterprise Console 4.5, Ive got it on my list of jobs for the summer hols (xmas) to upgrade to 4.7 but I guess Ill go straight to 5.0. (possible?) Having completely 0 experience with the sophos installs, is it just a case of running the installer and letting it do its thing? Or should I completely ditch the old installation that I know nothing about and create a new server / installation /policies and start from scratch?
  3. not sure if the previous poster has pmd you yet but http://www.peninsulafm.com/LanView_4_Server_4_0_50.exe
  4. right just had my annual workplace health appraisal.. Doing a lot better than 2010 but not back to 2009 levels in terms of weight. Heres my last 3 years stats in case anyone wants a nosey If anyone could help me plot those figures into some nice trend graphs would be great!) Fitness.xlsx
  5. running at 2008 levels, no wmi filters, and ive added "everyone" to the ntfs perms and share perms.. still aint happening ;/
  6. Nope, brand new policies created on a 2008r2 server
  7. Ever since we went to 2008R2 its been really hit or miss trying to deploy msi via GPO. Is there anything different that needs done in 2008r2/7 that wasnt there in 2003/2008/xp ? Gpresult shows the policy is being applied, but the software just isnt installing. Clickview and AB tutor are 2 this week that Im struggling with.
  8. The only time ive seen these is on aeoplane boarding cards you print yourself.. How do you read them?
  9. Ok I fixed my problem, thanks to this post here Arctic Falcon - › Otherwellknownobjectserror installing Exchange 2010 SP1.. Not entirely sure what it did but it worked and SP2 went on no worries.
  10. Cant find anything bout an AD schema ungrade in your links can you point me in the right direction please? My attemted upgrade passed all the prerequesite checks but failled at install.
  11. Can you elaborate on what you mean by "directory traversal" please, and the steps you took to be able to find the end page by that method please? Sounds interesting and something useful..
  12. @powdarrmonkey have you had a spare minute to have a look? I'm not sure what has changed in new versions since I configured that one.;.
  13. thanks, yeh I had seen that one but I was hoping for a more automated way rather than selecting each of the 100+ pptx files and then selecting each of the 10+ slides from each pptx. Something like, being able to select multiple files to combine. ah well. Lots of work for Mrs. Teacher.
  14. A teacher has a whole classload of powerpoint presentations that she wants to combine into a single powerpoint presentation.. Is this possible?
  15. Anyone gonna own up for this one?
  16. we went with HDS for our SAN, theyve been great and have a local presence which is handy.. @zag, im at about 46 VMs, just now.. the SAN has 2 controllers, 2 switches, and 2x 2x10gb into the core, and each of these are spread over 2x UPS. As well as all the raid groups in the san there are also hot spares etc. I dont see where the single point of failure comes in?
  17. for sites that I rarely use, yes, like a a forum I sign up to just new just to make one post, or a ecommerce site I will only use once a year, I will set a password that even I cant remember, and reset it whenever I need to access that site. @SimpleSi, as above, why have to remember all the rest. Just the seven ones I use the most. The rest can stay as a random string until I need to access it again. Sure it takes an extra 2 minutes to press 'I forgot my password' wait for an email, click a link, enter the next password.. This is probably not any recommeded mehtod by the experts etc, but it works for me..
  18. The number of people I have spoken to from here, who have told me they used the same password on this forum, other forums, and their banking sites, utterly astonishes me. Regardless of the situation of whatever happened to this site, we are supposed to lead by example. I cannot believe a so-called professional in this field would act like that... Im not particulaly over-conscious of security, but I do use a differnet username, email, and password on all the sites i frequent, regardless of how hard this may be to remember
  19. the reason we let them use their laptops at school is as a learning device. so they can google, they can read wikipedia, they can access learning resources etc. I have whitelisted a couple of SSL sites namely our MIS and Live@edu which is achieved by IP based ACL
  20. I rememeber when I bought my EEE back when, the recommendation was to disable page file etc as the flash memory had a limited number of read/writes. Is this the same for modern SSD drives? IVe just upgraded my laptop to 8GB RAM and a 128GB OCZ SSD and just wondering what the general consensus was now with regards to the read/write limitaiton of Solid state. Is it negligable?
  21. @Michael, The problem presented itself when we were bulding our latest image. Everything was working great, then install SMART latest, then things stop working.
  22. On my webspace I am hosting a load of (perfectly legal) MP3 mixes, of some local glasgow DJs. These links have been spread via forums, facebook etc whatever and ive just checked the logs and im now getting about 1000 hits a month and most of them are direct hits, meaning they are just grabbing the files directly. The webhost hasn't pulled me up yet but its only a matter of time, so was hoping to disable hotlinking to force folk to actually click on a link and view the page which I would put some subtle ads on whicn could hopefully pay for a bigger hosting package Anyone got any experience with this?
  23. Ive found the best solution when it comes to problems with smart software is just to contact their support. I had a problem for ages and posted about it here there and everywhere, eventually contatced them and they sorted it within a couple of email replies. Incidentlay, my imaging guy said today that the latest version of smart corrupts a load of software on our SOE, namely inspiration but others as well that I cant remember just now.
  24. So if she uses photostory to create a collage she can then just upload that 1 file? That might be a better option for her. Thanks for the heads up. As an aside, we used to use OneLan in my last school, which is one of the more expensive paid for digital signage solutions. The advantage of that was it came with half a days training to the ladies who were using it were taught how to get to grips with it from the off. However with that it was just a case of FTPing a bunch of JPGs to a Folder and then it cycled thru them.
  25. We rolled out Xibo to one of our schools as a trial, and was back recently to notice the big 60" Tv in the foyer was turned off. After enqiuring what was up and if the Xibo client / server had gone down etc, was told that basically it took too long for the headmistress to create the designs, and that what was on there was out of date so they turned it off. I dont know if you guys are expected to do the creation and all that stuff but that is way out our remit and delegated to whovever is using it, but she just said that it took too long to load photos and create the displays once a week. I dont know if there is any easy way to do this or if she is doing it a long way or if there is an easy way to just dump photos in a folder and then it starts cycling through them? I think she is adding photos one at a time to something (havent actually used xibo myself just oversaw the project done by a jr)
