We have just started to make the move from ghost to MDT/WDS. Ive given the job of setting it all up to my junior tech as a project and he seems to be stumbling through it OK so will see how it turns out.

got a teacher here who is having issues with smart software. If she creates a new smart document, or tries to edit an existing one, sometimes she gets the error "unable to save the file" this isnt a folder / file permsision issue as she can edit and save all other files in that location.. and its intermittent, sometimes it will let her save, sometimes it wont. Ive never seen this before, Ive reimaged her laptop, created her a new profile, reinstalled / upgraded the smart software.. its a bit wierd.. cant see any reference of it on the smart support pages.. anyone else experienced anything like this?

we bought a dell 50x LOT5 tape storage library for the d2t, and use a dell sas attached storage array with 15x2tb drives in it for the d2d. We use backup exec. Works well.

does it need to be vbs? using a batch file for example you can call the msiexec with the uninstall flag and string i cant remember the exact syntax but there is a silent flag as well so its done in the background %WINDIR%\System32\MsiExec.exe /X{90120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} REBOOT="ReallySupress"/qn according to this most applications that use msiexec have an uninstall string you can use in this way

we use storagecraft shadowprotect. It takes full system snapshots every 15 mins, and lets you boot the snapshots as a VM should the phsical server die.., to be back up and running within minutes. We are only ever 15 mins out of date should one of our main servers kick the bucket so bad.

cheers for that... I probably could have got away with using remove-mailbox as these are old accounts in AD and Ill end up deleting them anyway, but if this is best practice then thats fine. Is there a way to purge them before the 30 days without changing the global setting? My backup is running at about 160gb just now and is taking a fair while, which is the motivation behind the cleanup really..

just found the setting... Will the deleted mailboxes still get backed up until the 30 days is over?

No plans to use exchange for voice yet. I guess I can keep myself and the boss happy if we get his overkill server, and then I also put an exchange VM on the SAN and use the 2 of them in HA with a DAG ?

is there any MS experts on here who could comment? I agree with the HA, spending all that money and then having email unavailable while rebooting for updates seems daft.... Having the storage mounted on our SAN with a single server isnt going to make it highly available...Boss here wont entertain putting exchange on virtual for some reason, we already have some decent hyperv hosts clustered which store the VMs on the SAN..
