  1. Afternoon. Our deputy head is currently working on the timetable for next year on his machine which has 2 monitors. Our setup here is that we access SIMS remotely on servers located at the LA. They use remote app. When he loads SIMS he can't move any active windows from one monitor to the other. It stops when it goes from one to the other like there is only one monitor. All applications loaded locally will move happily between both monitors. If the office manager tries it on her machine, it works without issue. I have reinstalled the graphics card drivers. After a bit of googling, I was able to find a clue, if he connects using mstsc.exe, within the options > display tab> there is an option of use all my monitors for the remote session. This is not available on his machine. This is a bit of a complicated problem to describe, I hope I have given enough info. Anyone got any idea why we cant move between screens? The machine is running XP SP3 and the graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 3400 TIA James
  2. I would look at MSE first but another good one is Skyscanner
  3. Should probably have mentioned that I have tried that already. Strangley the option to select double click is already selected and the single click is greyed out. folder options.bmp
  4. Hi all, I have just added my new(ish) windows 7 machine to the network and domain. I have a bit of a problem in that all the icons on the desktop are acting like hyperlinks, i.e they are all opening on a single click, and its the same in explorer. All the folders are opening on a single click. its not too much of a problem but it annoys the hell out of me. My boss (who has just left to another job) set up the machine before me to test W7 and im not sure if this happens to all windows 7 machines when added to a domain or if its just our domain and its a setting she enabled. There is one other W7 machine and it too has the same issue. Any Ideas?? James
  5. I think teamviewer has the ability to video conference as well as remote desktop
  6. Doh!! I added the change to the default domain policy and it worked a treat!! Problem seems to be sorted. Thanks Sukh!
  7. Thanks Sukh, the local service has rights to 1 and 2 but not Profile system performance. This is what i tried to do earlier. I have added a GPO that should add the local service to my machine but its not appearing. It also wont let me modify it locally. I will double check the setup of the GPO but I am almost certain that its ok. Its only the two windows 7 machines that we have in school but it is happening on both. If i can fix the problem on my machine then I will role it out to the other PC.
  8. yeah its the 'Diagnostic Service Host' service.
  9. Afternoon!! I have just installed Windows 7 on my machine, set everything up, its working brilliantly. Just one problem, I keep getting loads of Errors in the event log. The event is ID 7000 and the message says I have googled and tried a few things but nothing has stopped the messgaes yet. There is another W7 machine in school that one of the teachers user and I have just had a look at the event log on their machine and its the same story! We are using server 2008. Has anyone else seen this message or know how to fix it. TIA James
  10. Have you checked the time on the clients compare to that of the DC?? I had this problem a little while ago and the clocks were about 90 seconds out from each other. changed the clock to a bit of a closer match and it was fine.
  11. If you can ping google, its not a dns problem. As Sukh says, try disabling the firewall and test.
  12. Make your own... just get two pairs of old headphones, cut the wires, strip them back a bit and join to second connector. its a bit 'Heath Robinson' but it should do the trick.
  13. create a batch file using psexec to call Internet Explorer and load the page of choice. Easy. Download PSTools from PsTools. Place the files in the System32 folder. Create a text file with the list of computers in called computers.txt then use If you want to be really clever you could get it to ask for an input then use the result as the webpage. Simples!
  14. I cant really see what the problem is here? Do you mean that its just your machine that cant connect?
  15. This sounds like a lovely thought. But in reality, I believe that its always dependent on your own situation. Different networks need different folder structures and different ways of working. In my experience, When I started at my old school, myself and the ICT coordinator wanted to tidy up the drives and folder structure but the problem is that there is already a lot of files and folders on the network shared areas and this makes it very difficult to 'organise' because none of the staff would be able to find their files. I guess generally, as you mentioned, there should be a folder for user directories, software, media files, shared areas for users. I think the only way round it would be to plan carefully what folders you want, have a completely clean install of a server OS and work from there.
  16. agree with Fatmas. I wouldn't bother with degree. my degree is in sports and leisure, nothing to do with my job now. Do you have any qualifications like MCITP? I would put those. Remember, it's not a CV, it a way for people to get in contact with you. I would put phone number, email, contact info etc, maybe a photo????
  17. is there anything in the event log that might point you in the right direction?? The only time I have seen this was down to malware on the machine.
  18. I downloaded the Jam greatest hits. brilliant!!
  19. If i type t*ts into DuckDuckGo, its filtered by our LA!!!
  20. I thought it was only me that thought that!! Its so annoying, I keep losing it then remembering that its been moved.
  21. thanks Cache, i will try that today. the only thing that makes me think its not the cartridge is the fact that when i disable the cartridge check and swap the cyan and yellow, i get a yellow background instead of a cyan background.
  22. My dad had one of these hand held scanners when I was growing up. They were brilliant because you could scan your face and watch it come up on the screen. But going back to what AngyTechnician said, they arent that good, if you move slightly then the image is distorted and if you move your hand too fast of too slow, the image will stretch or get compressed. use a flatbed scanner or as mentioned above... a camera.
  23. I managesd to find part of the service manual on partshere. i will give it a go and report back. It seems like thias might take me a couple of hours and might be a job for the holiday in a couple of weeks. Does anyone else have any other thoughts on this. Thanks
  24. you can use Italc accross multiple ict suits. i havent done it in a while but Iwhen you install the master application, it generates a unique file that you have to use when you intall the clients.
  25. Thanks Richard. The cartridges are are genuine. After a bit of research, one thing that keeps coming up is the High Voltage PCB and the DC controller PCB might be defective. Does that mean anything to anyone?? As I mentioned in the original post, I have another printer of the same model for spares, I might change the boards if its easy enough to do.
