Also, can you run a gpresult on a computer outside of the ou to see if it is being applied?
-
fine, but my question still stands. why are you using item level targeting in this case? This should be used to narrow down the number of computers in an OU that the policy is applied to. If you apply the gpo to an OU normally, you wouldnt use item level targeting?
-
if you apply the GPO to the just the curriculum OU, why are you using item level targeting? Which computers are you trying to shutdown? It wont apply to computers outside of the OU.

[ms office - 2010] Office install reboots halfway
Admiral208 replied to Admiral208's topic in Office Software
anyone? -
I am trying to roll out office 2010 to a number of computers using a script. Microsoft suggest running the script at startup, but I have chosen to run it at shutdown. This way the users dont have to wait 20 mins for it to finish. They can shutdown at night and in the morning it will be ready for them to use. My problem is that when the computer is shutdown, the installer starts. At about half way through the install, it fails, and finishes shutting down the computer without adding a logfile to the installation source folder. If I turn it on, then shutdown, it works perfectly. I have scouted the net and cant seem to find any information on this problem. I have even tried adding a seperate batch file to uninstall previous versions of office first and then call the setup file. This causes the same issue. This has happened on almost all computers I have tried it on. Has anyone else experience this kind of problem? Is there a way of logging what the installer is doing before it shuts itself down? Thanks James

This is a question about cachepilots. We have a cachepilot as our proxy server. I am trying to embed a youtube video into powerpoint 2010 but it come up with a message 'Contacting the server for information', then it fails. I know the problem must be something to do with our cachepilot because I can change the proxy to another LA proxy and it works perfectly. I change it back to the cachepilot and it doesnt work. Ive added youtube.com to the exceptions auth domain list for staff but its still not working and I can navigate to the youtube video I want without any problems. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this? How can I find out what Powerpoint is trying to do and why its failing? Thanks James

[ms office - 2010] Office auto activation behind cachepilot proxy
Admiral208 replied to Admiral208's topic in Office Software
Im not using a kms host there are only going to be about 40 deployments. As mentioned above, I can use the VAMT to activate them, I want to know if its possible to activate them automatically at computer start up when the product gets installed. If i run the script with a user logged in, it works. I can install the product and have it auto activate. I just cant do it at startup. -
[ms office - 2010] Office auto activation behind cachepilot proxy
Admiral208 replied to Admiral208's topic in Office Software
Ok thanks, Ill use that for now but is this problem actually solvable? Can a computer connect to the internet via a proxy server before a user logs on to automatically activate? -
[ms office - 2010] Office auto activation behind cachepilot proxy
Admiral208 replied to Admiral208's topic in Office Software
the clients are XP, does this matter? -
Hi folks, Im trying to deploy Office 2010 to out to our teachers workstations. I have followed the method of using the Microsoft script and deploying via group policy at computer start up. I have created the admin install file and it all works perfectly except the automatic activation. I have read that I can enter AUTO_ACTIVATE=1 in the OCT to achieve this but it doesnt work at startup. We use a cachepilot box as our proxy and this requires authentication. How would the computer get its proxy settings to auto activate before a user logs in?? Has anyone got this to work? I want to roll it our over night and would like for the users to not have to do anything when they come in, like activate office over the net. Thanks James

In my old school, we bought all our kit from novatech. they are reaonable priced, good support. I would definitly use them again.
-
our workstation computers are set to accept both of these methods for WOL.
-
Yep, checked these. Its all correct I have checked all of these settings and they are correct. I know the machines can be woken from a shutdown state because we use another piece of software called SchoolVue and this will wake the machines without any problems. Are there any settings in the server program that I need to check or should it work 'out the box'?
-
Afternoon everyone. Just taking a quick look at LanView 4 and my first impressions are that its a really useful piece of software. My problem is that I cannot seem to use the WOL feature. I have checked that the bios is set to allow the WOL feature but when I select a machine to Wake Up, nothing happens. I am using my workstation as the LanView Server, the test workstation is on the same VLAN subnet, I am able to view the machine with VNC, I just cant get it to wol. Anyone got any ideas?? Thanks
