Thanks. I want to be able to stream movies and music from my NAS box to my PS3. I know you can get the passthrough type but they are generally more expensive than this triple pack. EDIT: The house is a fairly modern build. Its within the last 8ish years i think. the wiring should be fine.

Hi folkes, recently set up a vpn server here and we are now testing it with a few members of staff. I have tried it from home and it works perfectly, I can remote desktop to my machine and I can map drives to my home drive as well as others. One member of staff has been able to connect to the the VPN, and RDP to his machine. However, he is unable to map the drives. It shows a message to say that the network location cannot be found. My first thought was that he was doing it wrong, so I gave him a batch file to run to map the drives and he is still getting the same issue. Has anyone else had this same problem?? Thanks James

Thats the point of it!! I agree with localzuk, moodle is (in my opinion) more unfriendly than fronter, and this new version of fronter is vastly better looking than the current version.

local ipaddress being resolved
Admiral208 replied to mirojr's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
could you set the home page via IP address rather than dns name -
I is interlaced and is basically 2x 540 lines alternating up and down to produce a picture. P is progressive and is 1080 lines starting from the top 1 at a time going down the screen. P is better than I but as mentioned before there are many factors that make a good picture. Also I just bought a small tv for our house and had to take it back because the speakers were $*1t! I couldnt put up with how poor the sound. make sure the speakers are man enough to produce a decent sound.

one tip that I wish our users could learn is how to create a shortcut to something rather than copying the whole folder you their desktop. file and folder management tips. How to resize photos to save space on the servers.

when the new machine arrives, plug the old drive it into that as a slave and copy all the information you need to your new drive.

Ah, good point. I should have mentioned... were backing up to tapes and it is a new backup nightly.

you mentioned that the clients were laptops. Does the problem occur wired/wireless/both? We had a problem here with a piece of software not working properly. It was a mismatch of speeds between the core switch and the NIC on the client. The switch was set to 1000 full duplex and the client was set to auto, once we changed the switch to auto, it solved all the problems we were having.

Hi folkes!! not really a huge problem (I think) but more of something that might turn into a problem. The backups have recently started taking a lot longer to complete. 26/07/11 - 8hours 39Mins - 440Gb 02/09/11 - 20hours 49mins - 424GB I have recently defragged the servers but I would have thought this would have made it quicker if anything, not slower?? We use backup Exec on Server 2k8. Anyone got any thoughts on this?? TIA James

URGENT! Restoring missing folders from SYSVOL

We use BackupExec. It took me a while to realise that I couldn't restore the files individually, I had to restore the system state and extract what I needed. -

Yeah, I managed to restore the sysvol folder to another location and copy the gpo's back into the correct folder. -
When I moved, I went through a bank statement and picked out all the things like bills. This will normally cover most of the important ones. Not sure anyone has mentioned mobile phone and if you have a car, the V5 should be changed.

Thanks, Can you expand on this a bit more? do I have to run this at a command line? Does anyone else have any suggestions?

quite a few of our admin team have dual screens. I don't think its that uncommon.

Morning folks. I am having a bit of a strange problem, I have set up GPP to deploy printers accross the school (with great success). Its working flawlessly, apart from one machine. I have set up the GP to map a network printer called OFFICE-01 to all of the PC's with a netbios name that begins with OFFICE-01. This particular machine has a local USB printer (HP Laserjet 1320), so I also ticked the box that says Set this printer as the default printer ...only if a local printer is not present. However, whenever a user logs in, the network printer is set as the default and not the local printer. I have had a quick look on the net but I have been unable to find any resolution. Has anyone else had a similar problem or know whats wrong? The server is 2k8 and the client is a fully updated XP SP3 Client. TIA James

Thats what I want to happen. At the moment, we have a horrible terminal services solution set up by the la but only enough license for 5 users. The problem is that all of these things above will cost extra to set up. I currently have a spare 2003 server which has the ability to run a VPN role for free... We have a 100mb internet connection which should easily be able to support more users. I don't think that getting the ports forwarded will be a problem but I am unsure if thats all I need to do.
-
Ok, thanks. I have a spare server with 2003 so the cost is nothing. And I still need to get some kind of public access to the server. TBH, not all staff will use it. Probably only the SLT and myself to start with.
