  1. I had the same problem. Apple have started using third-party servers, so you may find your current firewall settings no longer work. See this thread for more information - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/netbooks-pda-phones/192691-ios-11-activation.html.
  2. It's a strange one as neither did I to start with but we do now. I've just wiped and re-enrolled two devices side by side. The iOS 10 would only activate if I excluded http:// from the proxy pac url, and the iOS 11 would only activate if I included it. Oh well, at least I've got mine working now. Hope you get yours sorted before too long, @HilcrRWise.
  3. Another thing I've discovered that Apple has changed in iOS 11 - the proxy URL now needs to have the 'http://' prefix in front of it in order for the iPads to locate it. With iOS 10, it only works if you don't include it. Thanks, Apple, that's really helpful! Did you manage to get your activations working, @HilcrRWise?
  4. Our LEA guy has done some digging and here are the address ranges used by Akamai Technologies: 184.84.0.0/14 (255.252.0.0) 104.64.0.0/10 (255.192.0.0) 23.192.0.0/11 (255.224.0.0) 23.51.112.0/20 (255.255.240.0) 88.221.87.0/24 (255.255.255.0) 88.221.88.0/24 (255.255.255.0) I hope these are useful to others in the same position as us.
  5. Apple couldn't give me the information directly but, instead, pointed me towards the Amsys website: https://www.amsys.co.uk/2017/05/configuring-proxies-firewalls-apple-mdm-access It suggests whitelisting various domains for content download including *.akamaiedge.net and *.akamaitechonolgies.com. I can't see our LEA allowing that to happen!
  6. Well it worked for the first iPad, but when I tried another I had the same problem as before. I've just spoken to the guy at the LEA and it seems that there are a whole variety of IP addresses being used. I'm going to need to get further details directly from Apple. Apparently, all the addresses being denied are standard http/https.
  7. That's good to know, but can one be tressed? tress (verb) - Arrange (a person's hair) into long locks. (Source: OED) Does that mean, then, that the fabled 'damsel in distress' is nothing but a girl having a bad hair day?
  8. It seems that the address being denied us is: a23-51-123-27.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com (IP address: 23.51.123.27). I've raised a ticket to have it unblocked. I'll let you know if it works.
  9. Thank goodness it's not just me! I've been having sleepless nights thinking it was something I'd done wrong. I sent that link to the 'Keeper of the Ports' at the LEA a few weeks ago when I first started setting them up. I'll get in touch again and ask him if he can see anything being blocked since the iOS 11 upgrade. I'll post back if/when I find anything out. I'm using Profile Manager on a local Mac Mini, so I can't test from home, but at least I can carry on setting up the rest of the iOS 10 devices in school.
  10. Hmmm, I thunk that might be the case.
  11. Anyone know what the support is like for the free version of Mosyle? We've just got 50 iPads and a Mac Mini to manage them with, but I haven't got a clue about it all. I'm starting a 2-week trial with Impero EdLink this afternoon, and I've been told that they will hold my hand through the deployment process. I don't know how much it will cost once the trial is over, but I certainly need to make sure I have access to LOTS of help in the future.
  12. Hi all I've not been on here for a couple of months, but I just wanted to pop in to wish all you lovely Edugeeks the most bestest Christmas ever and an even more betterer New Year. Thanks for all your help, support and friendship (and French horns!) over the past year. I'll be pestering you all about iPads when we come back in January.
  13. Photos or it didn't happen!
  14. Is this still being looked into? I have the same 'Advert blocked' problem on every Microsoft TechNet link. I then have to go round the houses trying to find the exact same page being referred to in the post. It's a real pain.
  15. Just remember to keep down wid yr homies.
  16. Yep. I get that from time to time. I thought it was something to do with my phone.
  17. Yep. The same here. It's actually freaking a few of the younger kids out. It is very eerie. @elsiegee40 - I can see this needing to be branched off into a Storm Ophelia thread (if there isn't one already).
  18. Got it! (I'm better at these than I thought!)
  19. If these are a bit too easy, try the Radio 4 Puzzles for Today. Edit: I suppose I'd better check with @JJonas that my answers are correct first! Edit of Edit: Phew. They were.
  20. That sounds like a job for @Gonk! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2twZ8w7KztU
  21. This shows the pure genius of @VeryPC Al's long-term marketing strategy. He's conditioned us all, like the slobbering Pavlovian dogs that we are, to come running when the October bell rings - eagerly anticipating our fill of shenanigans. The fact that we're nearing the end of a second page of discussion about it is free advertising for VeryPC without them having to do anything at all. Hurrah for the Bobinson! Seriously, though, VeryPC is a much bigger (and busier) entity than it was a few years ago. I appreciate that they simply can no longer spare the time to make frivolous videos... every day... for a whole month! Perhaps if a higher proportion of people who entered the competition actually went on to place orders, they could be persuaded to do something in the future. (Eh? Eh? You know you want to! ) In the meantime, let's make our own shenanigans and wait Beckett-like for Godot!
  22. That was earlier in the email chain.
  23. This seems like a good place a photoshop I've just sent to @VeryPC_Colin_M. Come on, Colly - Do your dealing!
  24. Then let's have a pretend one of our own!! Sheffield is at least a 5-6 hour drive from anywhere! Including Sheffield! Let's hope there's a live video stream. Hint, hint...
  25. At the moment, it does. How long it will continue is another question.
