  1. It is worth considering what data sources will be accessing via the switches as your storage throughput could be the bottleneck if you have 10gb backbone to all switches.

    QNAP ideas

They make a great media server with DLNA streaming meaning students and staff can stream using just windows media player.
  3. Fingerprints are the way forward else just give each student a new Id not related to email account so they can't look the Id's up.
  4. Thanks for the pointers. Good point about Access for holidays or if needed at weekends. Had considered there needs to be agreement on data security and it should all be encrypted.
  5. It is under privacy , trust settings , disable something can't remember the option but you will find it .
  6. I'm planning to put a NAS in a school down the road from us and they plan to put one in our site as an option for offsite back. I just wondered if anyone else has done this and what contract you put in place as we don't plan any funds to be exchanged for power or rental of space as they would cancel each other out or would it be best to have each school exchange say 1p for audit trail ? Thanks for any help people can provide.
  7. The HP release has the hp drivers included so vCenter can read all the server sensors and it has the best drivers for things like network and raid card . You can add the drivers in later if you didn't have HP ESXi image via offline bundles HP provide. It's with adding the HP ESXi site to the update manager if you have it running to provide latest drivers and installing HP insight manager for installing latest firmwares.
  8. Guess rules that out. I'm going to try having windows 8.1 machines off the network for couple of days as seems like issue was after they were updated at the half term but don't think they would be the issue
  9. Just out of interest what antivirus are people using ? We have the issue and uninstalled Mcafee from the server and now we are down to one reboot a day. Wonder if it's a conflicting windows update/antivirus issue
  10. I've just moved from exchange 2003 to office 365 using the staged migration , did a csv dump of all mail users from active directory in two batches of 750ish users and migrated everyone's emails (300gig) in about 48 -60 hours as once it started just left it going with 100mb internet connection. It took me longer to get DNS records and dirsync working to pick up than it did for the migration so they might be allowing for that in the 6 days but make sure they don't charge you while they wait for DNS to settle and dirsync to be sorted.
  11. I use both Impero for day to day monitoring/logging and Securus for phrase/keyword monitoring and we explain the monitoring to staff in our E-safety policy. @robjduk Did you know you can install to VM now ? so might be worth looking at with version 8 coming out.
  12. Go to the top root folder , click the library tab and open with explorer then you can manage the files like you do in windows explorer , you have to be using internet explorer for the option to be available and it use to be only the 32bit version of internet explorer would work but they did update SharePoint Online to support both I believe
  13. I've just updated from 5.0 straight to 5.5 vCenter with no issues and updating my HP DL360 G7 to 5.5 too and left my HP DL 380 G5 on 5.0 with latest updates . Just make sure you get the HP version of ESX not the general release
  14. I feel bad now for throwing out all our core 2 duos or i5 upgrade when other people have worse machines still running
  15. If it's for backup maybe use document library in sharepoint online ?
  16. Are you planning to map their skydive as primary drive ? Guessing you have no media editing requirements ?
  17. I've not found anything , came to conclusion offer HAP and sky drive together
  18. If you link to active directory it lets users have single sign on for reporting issues on help desk with their username and if you link your email server it will email users with help desk updates
  19. we had this issue and found the solution was to add a registry key Wallpaper via Group Policy and Windows 7
  20. I have to say its been getting better with each versions , been running it since version 2 which was good back in 2008. I do find now our network is getting to 2k+ devices the scans take a long time but still works well. If you like Spiceworks and want to learn more you should come to Spiceworld in London which is sometime in May , best 2 days of IT you can have in the UK and you will see the real power of Spiceworks.
  21. I use Veeam for whole server backups and Previous Versions in Windows Server VM, I've set 20-30% of my drive space for previous version which give me file or directory level restores for previous 6-8 months with 2 snapshots a day 7am and 1am.
  22. Add my name to the hat please . Looking forward to runner up sweets
