We have all of the above problems and having looked we haven't found an answer as you really need user logins or profiles . Best we have come up is to have WebDAV setup with pages for downloading , editing and saving back to the network

Thanks , I've used them before as got best price for projectors in past .

Do you mind if I can ask what price the printer is to buy ?

I've got/had 120 ocz vertex 2 drives and had 3 failures in 3 years . Now have 200 vertex 4 drives and had one die in one week out of 1 and half years . New ocz vector drive got 200 drives and no issues in last 6 months so far . All have 5 year warranty and in bulk work out 50p per gig . Have started upgrading staff laptops now all machines are done . Well worth the upgrade , teachers think they have new laptop now. Next plan is SSD SAN

I will be watching this thread and see what ideas come up as I would be up for purchasing a couple.

How can we get the best out of our rubbish netbooks?

Another option could be to look at VDI with them then the only thing the laptop needs is good wireless connection -

Any reason you haven't updated to version 4 ? they might have fixed any bugs in new version. We find the support is very good so log a call and they will remote in to investigate.- 7 replies

Some printers/copiers also log 4 prints for colour , one for each colour so maybe need to test by doing a print and reading the count.
-
I might be worth installing something like Papercut to monitor who and how many prints are being done and if needed limit how much they can print. We have 1300 students limiting the number of credits they get per month and budget about £25k a year.
-
We are looking at backing up to another school but just sorting a minimal rental agreement so there is a paper trail should we both leave and next network managers think they own the box in their server room
-
Deny save files in user areas with file resource manager , issue 4gb memory stick for save files. No reason to be backing up files on network. You maybe able to get the memory sticks purchased under pupil premium if sort of students playing

I also do the same as bclarke

Maybe Win7 could be W7 or W8 or WXP depending on version

office 365 single sign on (good idea or waste of time)
xenonive replied to sted's topic in Cloud Services
You might want to consider using a mesh host, like Welcome to YouID they can sync all your usernames and passwords over various services for single sign on . Think its about £2 per user but they can host a frontend for users -
check it has DNS server registered with the device or reserved in DHCP if not got a static IP address.
