Secondary 2. iPad 4's 3. Used a lot in DT for just browsing web, not sure about other departments 4. Of course, using own tools and protocols 5. £400ish? They can be managed, with a fist.

    We went for iPads, where I had to learn about management etc, which I am now really good at (If i say so myself *smug face*) I would personally go for a Windows based tablet though, at least there is some form of login. Great Windows tablet is SAMSUNG Ativ SmartPC Pro, we got a couple of them and they are beasty.

    I use: $bits = explode("\\", $_SERVER['AUTH_USER']); But LOGON_USER works equally as good. System Status are done via PHP again, fsocketopen, send 1 bit of data - if success then echo Tick etc. But we cache the statuses, as a lot of kids loading the page would eventually cause an issue.

    The whole thing is built for us, so its customized from the ground up. I would have to rewrite loads of it and then release it, who knows what the future holds

    IIS Windows Authentication - If a user is using IE, and is on a domain connected computer and logged in as a domain user - It will pass the Username via IE, and then the code takes it and splits it properly If you want to read more on it, its called NTLM

    Hi all, So, we are using the new XML way of customising the start screen as highlighted in new Windows 8.1 enterprise features. According to the documentation: First you build the layout using the Start Screen (Pinning Apps, like SIMS.net) and then export it (SIMS.net continues to be in the outputted XML file) But, here is the issue: SIMS.net Tile will not appear on the custom start screen, all the other tiles will - thus indicating that the "shortcut is not valid", but it is! Any solutions?

    We here have a similar approach to BYOD, Users are authenticated using RADIUS and their traffic completely bypasses the network going straight to LEA for filtering. But, we provide our own suite of Cloud Services for students to "get back in again" to their documents etc.

    As I have posted on here before, our Intranet: PHP to pull timetable from Database (That uses SIMS to import to the database), personalised search engine provider, personalised notification system (If some students are in a club, teacher can message club), etc etc And a new thing, "System Status" Oh, and all built by myself in house, which helps with maintenance

    From what I can remember reading, the data is encrypted. I cant guarentee it, but Im sure a quick Google could. Supervising the device stops other PCs/Macs being able to view the iPad in any form of device management, once you supervise your iPad to one mac - You have to use that specific mac to remove settings (If you do not have a MDM solution). This can be good, so if you set a passcode using configurator while supervising the device at the same time, nobody can remove the passcode, rendering the entire process useless.

    You also, need to allow through Apple APNS Servers, which do the pushing and syncing: The entire 17.0.0.0/16 range is owned by apple, whitelist that Also whitelist: gateway.push.apple.com and feedback.push.apple.com also ports 2195 and 2196 for Push and Feedback APNS.

    +1 for FN-GM, If the device is passcoded - it is encrypted. If you also, supervise the device it becomes even more hardened.

    Joomla passwords should be stored as a hash in the database, if you find out what encryption it uses to hash, you can rebuild a hash of your own and replace it.
