For a couple of months now we seem to have lost the ability to download from Microsoft, or use their Microsoft Updates site. Trying to download the .Net 3.5 software, web installer file downloads ok, but as the installer trys to download the software it just stalls and never gets above 0KB/s transfer speed. After a while I'm greeted with a "Re-establishing connection with the server (attempt 1 of 5)" message MS Update acts in the same way and throws up an error code, although don't know it off hand (will have to wait for MS Update to time out before it gives me the code). The main microsoft site works fine and so does the 'Microsoft Download Center' at a speedy 3.4MB/s. I've checked the proxy and can't see any changes made that could have caused this. Anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this? I'm trying to farmilarise myself with wireshark at the moment as my next step... Would like to get this fixed though as I'm currently having to take machines home to run MS updates!

This is in response to a thread I posted up some weeks ago now: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-server-2008/35820-service-pack-2-a.html We've been applying SP2 successfully to a number of our Windows 2008 servers - up until now. One of our DC's fell over in the middle of applying the software. I'm not sure how it happened because I was distracted reading Angry Tech's blog, had my back to the console and didn't see exactly what the server did - but the bottom line is that the service pack install did not appear to progress past the pre-install phase before it terminated. I have tried to re-run the install from scratch, but all I get is a message stating I "need to install Windows Server® Service pack 1 before continuing" Checking the basic system properties, the system still thinks it has Service pack 1 applied, so I can only conclude that the service pack setup fell over while removing or modifying a file it subsequently uses to check minimum service pack level. Does anyone know of a way to force service pack 2 installation to proceed? Try as I might, I can't find any service pack 1 specifically for Server 2008 and although SP2 is common between Vista and Server, I am not going to try force-feeding SP1 for vista onto a DC "just for giggles". Anyone got any suggestions or thoughts? At the moment the server in question seems relatively unaffected by it's failed brush with SP2 but I am not optimistic it will stay that way and although I know a rebuild would cure it, it does seem drastic! Ta in advance. Jim

Hi, We have some iPods and an iPad in school and it won't let me update the iOS. It keeps saying 'Unable to verify update. iOS 7.0.3 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the internet.' There's no issue downloading apps, going on online or anything else. Just happens when trying to update the iOS... anyone know why??

So my installation of FOG 0.28 on Debian Lenny was working just great. I decided to set passwords in my PXE boot menu options in the GUI. From what I understood you had to do this before you can use the "Quick Image" option on the boot menu. I was also interested in setting a passwords on the registration options in the menu. So I went to the Other Information, PXE Boot Menu, section and entered a password (same one I use for the GUI web interface login) in to all the fields on that page. After I applied those settings my log files are all showing the same line over and over. I tried going back and setting the passwords to blank again. I also tried getting the password from the config.php file that is used for FTP/TFTP and putting that in the Master Password field. I also rebooted the box just for kicks. None of this is undoing the problem that setting a password in the PXE Boot Menu seems to have caused. Any ideas on how I can further troubleshoot this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Mike

Hi Guys and Gals, First post so I thought Id start with a really annoying problem. Recently got a suite of 32 Windows 7 professional HP machines which I've installed software etc used sysprep then cloned with clonezilla now using the exact same method I also did 35 Toshiba laptops. Now after joining the domain and using gpupdate /force and gpresults / rsop.msc everything is fine on the laptops however on the PCs I receive "Group Policy Infrastructure failed due to the error listed below. Access is denied. " Searching the net found lots of ideas including check DNS, ensure I can resolve the domain name from the clients I can. Ping works fine etc. NIC - disabled IPv6, disabled power saving. Replication errors - Servers both replicating sysvol, 1 being 2003 other 2008. No error messages there. Only difference between the laptops and the workstations is the different organisational units within AD - have tried changing the workstations into other OU no effect. Any ideas would be appreciated so much!
