    you can turn off the powerpoint presenter in Teams via policy. I was thinking of doing that as it is terrible even in its current form.

    Word has a transcribe option next to the dictate button. Split the video and audio using VLC first. ((Not done this, just a suggestion))

    Ring!!! It's back. Checked again, the meeting has no sound, the tab is not muted, the PC can play sound fine, youtube (as a test) can play sound. The meeting is working for all other users! I'm getting 3 pupils right now who have no audio in 2 different meetings. I can't fathom why? Reloading the tab, logout login, rebooting PC no fix? log in as different user works! EDIT: also plugging in a USB headset doesn't fix it either! (so a communications device, separate soundcard)

    Teams Outlook integration has to be enabled on the Teams App.

    SOLVED! The bloody pupils used Ctrl+M to mute the tab (or right click tab) and get out of work. (or pupils are doing this to others) I'm passing this on to staff now.

    Ok, this is happening to a few pupils now where the audio settings (in teams via Edge) is correct but the pupils can't hear anything? The pupils do not have access to the volume mixer but it would "seem" that the audio level for teams meetings is zero. The PCs play sound from other websites fine, (youtube) the meeting has audio as other pupils are fine. The device settings within teams is correct. is there a volume control within teams on the web?

    strange, when you start a meeting within a channel, it should only allow channel members to join. if the team itself has the wrong permissions that allow pupils to invite external users this would be odd. Also under external access you can limit the allowed domains, (this disables all other domains as a side effect) I've allowed ac.uk and sch.uk and other dorset domains. this should limit this. I've had 0 issues of the type you are describing.

    I think we were getting a similar message on some ios devices, it wasn't able to play the codec but came up with a permission issue. Really I want to say is don't take the error message at face value, see if the effected pupil can download the video. (or install the stream app on the device, if in fact it is an ios issue) it'll still not work but give a different error message. or remove stream if that is the issue.

    These are not clean installs, these are laptops doing a windows update from 1909 to 20h2. (I'm not even using WSUS) As per teacher request I've allowed staff to choose how and when the laptops update.

    I've enabled insights and it shows pupil class teams attendance / assignments. confusingly when I search online for insights it shows me wellness as part of insights with a different logo. What is the wellbeing / insights stuff?

    @RobD when I say no errors I mean it just says connecting indefinitely. Nothing on the DA dashboard for the client. These are remote users so I haven't a failing machine in front of me. The other staff (30+) are still working. They all should be 1909 unless they've done the upgrade. The DA troubleshooter isn't for Windows 10 and it has a lot of windows 7 quirks in it. The DA server is 2012 (not R2) but it up to date on security patches.

    I'm aware that DA is EOL but I didn't see any news on 20H2 breaking it or disabling it. My users are now getting prompted to update to 20H2 from 1909 and the 3 that have all got orphaned. No errors it just doesn't work. I've re-applied the policy but it still fails. Always on VPN has some technical hurdles and quite the infrastructure upgrade.

    The AMD 5000 series just announced and the 4000s on laptops are great. a 3000 series is fine but you'd feel a little left out buying new. Unless you can get a great price. EDIT: I recently got an asus PN50 with a 4300u and the device is incredibly fast, so a laptop based on these should be fantastic.

    turn off chat by applying a messaging policy in teams. it has some predefined policies to choose from and you can apply it based on a security group. To make a useful security group use can ask SDS to create an "all students" security group. Then apply the "secondary student" profile to that security group. This can all be done from the web interface. EDIT: to clarify we use this policy to disable the chat button, this prevents students from having a 1 to 1 dialog. The policy also stops them from starting a meeting of their own in a class group. EDIT2: I think @Mentions can be disabled in the teams group. (so with chat disabled all good) SLT here didn't want pupils chatting with each other as it presented a safeguarding issue. The pupils can still post to the team group that is monitored by a teacher.

    Bigger issue is DO NOT GET EMMC storage. This is often just called solid state storage. it's an SD card running windows and is awful. a single update or virus scan and the device stops working. 64gb is a no (esp as it'll be emmc). The device would probably also consume 8gb for a recovery partition. as well as the other reasons above.

    if you are running a meeting you can now stop people unmuting and prevent others from presenting. This should get most of what schools need it for. I found the live event feature way too complex to use.

    In case someone's like me didn't realize that Microsoft have removed the save to stream feature for education but didn't update the opt out of stream upload in the meetings profiles. You need to do that. So what happened is a meeting would record but would then fail to upload to stream and instead offer a 20 days to download. The issue is those recordings are hosted on skype and can't be deleted. You need to change the cloud upload option to OneDrive in your meetings profile which will store channel meetings to the files>recordings or to your personal OneDrive>recordings. It is of course a powershell thingum that required 12 pre-requisites before you type the option in.. Global for me as I haven't assigned profiles to teachers.     we have shared 6th form and invite them to team groups as guests. How do I apply a teams meeting policy to guest users. (as they are starting meetings)

    In SDS settings there is the option to mark all students as minors. This might help, I haven't seen what the option does yet.

    I have a teacher that can't create any more forms as it says she's out of space. Where are they stored and what policy governs this? EDIT: ok the actual error is reaching the forms limit!
