How odd, i found sebelius 5 and 4 easy as anything to deploy via MSI. You did buy the network version?

Its a difficult one, taking internet off them or not allowing them to use a computer are not really doable. Only last week some minister was saying an internet connected computer is as important now as a pen and paper, and i think he is right. With so many lessons requiring it revolving around having computer/internet access a new means of punishment is needed. We stopped the removing internet access years ago, just was not workable as next lesson teacher would be moaning that pupil x cannot get on and its needed for her/his lesson.

It works on the free version of Sharepoint called Sharepoint Services.

It needs to run on a sharepoint server, so if you do not have one then yes you will need another one.

We do not have the laptop and network docunents sync'd. We have a batch file on everyones laptop called "Backup My Laptop Now", which is just a few robocopy commands. If the teachers never click it, its there own fault when it breaks, they are told every now and then. Most do click it once a month, We did try with offline file back in 2003, but staff do not want to wait for it to sync 20,000 files while it shutsdown, they just want it to shutdown. They have shortcuts to the network my documents and shared areas on the network, so they know how to move things around.

Well now that i have Sims Learning Gateway installed, i was wondering how other people with this product have tweaked their sites. Have they just tweaked a few themes or have they added loads of extra web parts that do fancy things, and if so what? I've just finished doing the parent site with school logo and theme tweaks and wanted to know if there was anything else worth while adding to this site? Our main reason for buying it was to comply with the 2010 requirments of real time reporting to parents, but sharepoint seems like a powerful beast so we want to get the most out of it we can.

As for the original post, if it was me being forced into this, i would make disk protection from Windows Steady State a tool to try and reduce damage. But i see screens and power adaptors and keyboards and batterys being the expence.

It looks really good, there is one feature that is missing which with the current electric prices would be handy. Whilst on the logon screen only, if idle for X minutes shutdown. So if you have a suite of PC's just sitting there for 1 period not being used, if nobody wiggles a mouse or presses a key for say 15 minutes shutdown. But only from the logon screen as a teacher might leave the PC on all period to show somthing on the projector. Headteacher said she has had a letter saying to expect 40% increase in energy bills. So this is somthing she would like.

This is normal Vista uses RAM very differently to any other version of Windows.

In the end i just modifed the V3 MSI to remove the icons, then used a script with the /qr switch. Not how i want it, but i'm not pulling my hair out anymore.

We have a peice of software that requires the CD to run.

Version 4 is no longer an MSI, and version 3 is not a simple install.

They send you this big complicated document for licencing, i've ordered just a few CAL's to start with then will decide which is best model to go for.

Yes all paid. Was told early october at best when we ordered, apparently a big demand for the product , and since there is no self install, you have to wait for somebody from Capita's to come and do it. Unless your LEA have an agreement to do the install. Ours do not, since Staffordshire have got into bed with RM for the VLE and offer a poor solution, hence were going down the Learning Gateway route, i want it hosted onsite. So Sims learning gateway for us has to be installed by Capita not our LEA IT team. We have moodle, but also want Sims Learning gateway for the access to data for parents and staff.

Do not expect a speedy install. You cannot install it your self. We paid £8000 for it back in July and have still not got the product (awaiting install). Talk about long waits....

What if its got no water in and you switch it on!

Our PC's are 30-40 seconds boot from cold. Then 5-10 seconds to login from login screen to desktop loaded. Laptop trolleys are just over a minute to login screen (wireless slows down the preparing network connections), then 15-25 seconds to desktop from login screen if its a full class, same as PC's if its just a few using that AP.

Windows Key + M. Minimizes everything and takes you straght to desktop.

Just thought, on the student group with read, do you have "This folder only" set or "All sub folders and files" Needs to be this folder only to stop it inherating down
