I asked somebody about licensing and KMS Server from the Tech Helpdesk, and the person who said she was in the know about Microsoft licensing did not know what a KMS Server was, then she told me i should be buying PC's without a Windows Licence then buying them from a Schools Agreement instead, which i corrected her as they would be "Upgrade" licenses and the PC would have no licence to upgrade, to which she then agreed, then went hunting for somebody who would have a select agreement which you could buy non upgrade licenses from. If Microsoft staff them selfs do not understand there own licensing what hope do we have?

You can allow normal users to load and unload device's and drivers using "load and unload device drivers" in user rights.

Has anybody ever managed to get around this problem i'm having (we have the same in Vista too) We create a local user account with just normal user privilages, like we would in XP/2000. We logon, customise this how we want, run Office 2003 to get rid of the Installer on first run, and do any little app tweaks. We log off, go to the User Profile Manager, click this profile , do "copy to" C:\Users\Default User and set the Security to Everyone. It never works, Vista will say "you have been logged on with a tempory profile due to an issue with your profile" and Windows 7 says "The user profile service was unable to load your profile" I cannot find anything on the net saying we should be doing some other step in Vista/Windows 7. Am i missing one out?

I've been parking there for years, and over 20 times this year, it has somebody patroling every now and then, i've never seen a smashed window other anything of that nature.

I always drive to London. There is a tube station called Stanmore right next to Junction 4 of the M1, it costs £3 a day weekdays and a £1 a day weekends to park your car on the carpark attached to the tube station.

Just gone to have a look and your right, so i do not think it stands out enough, it still needs clearly seperating like Quick Launch was to the Open tasks.

The only thing i like about Windows 7 is the startup screen when its loading. o and the Ribbons in paint, as i think the ribbons are good. But we are having the same issues with Windows 7 as we had with Vista after playing with it today, be annoyances or just down sillyness. To name a few 1) Deploying software via group policy, it just says "Please Wait". No idication of its installing software like Windows XP and 2000 did 2) Network Shares painfully slow to open because like Vista its reading the whole contents to then produce thumbnails for the folder image. What use to take 1 second in Windows NT 4, 95,98,ME, 2000 and XP now takes minutes. 3) Folder navigation is just painful now, it hurts my head. It just looks cluttered. Too much eye candy. 4) When you type Administrator into the logon box you get to "r" and it changes the Logon to from the domain to the local pc i could go on and on and on, i like the new Windows 7 taskbar, but i do not like how you cannot distiguish between whats an open task and what is effectibly a quick launch application.

Last time i new WW made you control and keep track of what your eating instead of listening to your body's hunger signals. Do you no longer have to use point counting? or eat those vile diet/low fat options?
-
Its annoying because that new Healthy eating/living site the goverment has launched is telling kids to swap sugar for sugar free alternatives which will have this nasty chemical in. I've been off the stuff for over a year now after reading up on this lethal additive. Its been banned in some countrys like Hawaii. in 2005 this goverment came close to removing all 4000 products in our shops with this in. Its funny cause the people who know drink lots of diet or suger free products with this in have massive mood swings, hmm, what does this stuff do, have massive effects on your brain....., depression being one of them.

I did this , this time last year, and i lost just over 3 stone. For some reason, and i do not know why my "mind programming" flipped back to its old way of thinking, and it made me put just over a stone back on. But i've flicked my programming back, and its working again. I suppose i've been use to my old programming for most of my life, to stick to the new one naturally ain't just gonna happen in a few months. Follow the rules, it works. I'm with Paul, Diets and a way to get fat. I would never dream of trying to follow a diet , i have in the past, and i cannot believe how silly it is to do one now. Paul's system is basically, eat less, be more active. But you eat less without knowing, eat what you want, because naturally thin people eat chips, cake, choclolate yes? Stop listening to the diet industry, they just want your money.

We have 1 user with a Blackberry bold. Was dead quick to setup, and it uses the outlook web access address to get the e-mail.

How about some fix the pc puzzle at the stand? thats rock hard, and you have 3 minutes to fix it and if you do you get a mug.

I wish they would go back to the 2 seperate lines. Business wants a more stable life with the OS, like XP offered, not a new OS every couple of years and a must do upgrade because it now has flashy lights. Maybe revamp XP a little and make that the business OS, then keep this Windows 7 for home users, who am i kidding, Microsoft would never do anything like that.

Will there be any left by Friday as me and my helping hand are going on that day.

Is it Managment not listening or just not doable? I remember talking to the guy who installed our learning gateway, who was a nice chap, and talking about why there is no MSI Installer for deploying SIMS with group policy. He said they had been saying to do that for years, but the managment do not take any notice.
-
I think the County recommend it to make sure all locks on the database go, but i could just do that from the SQL managment console. Yes Solus runs automatically. I do the PARS Upgrades out of habbit as the last couple of SIMS upgrads i have done, PARS has crashed afterwords and needed an update. Its not the upgrades i have a disagreement with i know why they are done, its the way that they are forced because of a census. I feel that part needs seperating out. With 5 programs effected by these upgrades it has the potential to cause major issues for lots of people every few months. If each upgrade was purely optional you could have a nice running stable system, then when say the Jan update comes along. You can read the notes it would show what Enhancements and what bug fixes. You can that go, we have no need for anything the Jan update offers, we will leave it. Everything carrys on working fine. Then you might find the Feb Update has somthing you need, you can then plan for that upgrade to happen and not feel rushed.
-
Where did you get 2 hours from? If its from the 6am-8am, some staff come in at 7, and i need the upgrade done before they come in. The county council upgrade notes always recommend a reboot of the server is done before the upgrade, and its the first thing they ask if i have issues with the upgrade applying, so i just do it, then i can say i've followed the notes. The PARS upgrade went through in a fraction of the time the SIMS upgrade did. PARS is not a problem for us, its just the SIMS Upgrade has a knock on effect to it. If there is a glitch they have it resolved and sorted within 24 hours. Capita on the other hand, the 1 bug we had from August release of SIMS has still not been fixed, and they are aware of it. Infact as i've been typing this, i've just had the Office manager ring and say she needs this patch applying because "It has come to our attention that a problem is created by applying the November SIMS upgrade that affects the transfer of Nova-T data to SIMS .net." Its was all working fine pre upgrade for us. If it was not for the census we would still be on August release and things would be working. My point it is the census seems to be causing the majority of my upgrades to be forced to be done, so it needs to be altered. With us 1 SIMS Upgrade will have an effect on SIMS.net PARS PARS Connect Insight (when we get it) later this month SIMS Learning Gateway So if the amount of times i HAVE to upgrade a year can be reduced the better.
-
You missed the SIMS Learning Gateway patches out of the upgrade list, and also the fact we only need to upgrade PARS because we upgrade SIMS and Capita's alter things so that PARS Crashes and needs an update. I would not get rid of PARS, its GUI is better designed than SIMS, the support is thousands of times better than SIMS, and its faster. Just look at PARS Insight and compare it to Capita's Parent site on the Learning Gateway. If its a new feature in an upgrade then you can choose to take it or leave it, these Census things force us to upgrade when things are working ok. I think SIMS needs some serious re-designing. Why can the part that does the census not be a a seperate program? I know i'm not the only one who has big issues with Capita and Sims, as you said yourself you have complained about SIMS.net, i'm just annoyed with the exception of 1 bug, everything was working fine, but i had to come in work at 6am on a Monday morning 2 hours early (when nobody is using the SIMS system) to do this massive upgrade just because of a census.
-
What i do not get is why do we have to do upgrades for a census? Surely this could be a report thats generated? If i could get away with it i would upgrade SIMS once a year, its disgusting the amount of upgrades this product needs, its all OTT! You need to get some decent software engineers capita! The Senior Managment Team get really annoyed with the SIMS Upgrades as somthing normally breaks, and the MIS is mission critical really! I did the November upgrade yesterday due to the Jan census, what a hassle Do PARS Kickout Reboot Server Upgrade SIMS Upgrade PARS Patch Sims Learning Gateway Upgrade PARS Connect Allow PARS Login's again Teachers Upgrade SIMS on laptop/workstation PARS Upgrade on laptops/workstations All this, almost once a month Then go and find what was working is now not. If the SIMS Learning Gateway is broke after an upgrade i do not even bother phoning Capita's excuse for a support desk, its a waste of my time. I'm glad i do not have to deal with them directly for other SIMS programs. I would lose my temper.

Its the GUI changes in Vista i hated most about it, and if 7 is the same i'm not going to like it

You'll be lucky at John Lewis, i had to go from Nottingham to Watford just trying to get a John Lewis with the 50" Panasonnic TV in i bought at christmas as most said they would not stock anything that big in there store rooms, home delivery only. Keep away from John Lewis
-
I saw a 105" Panasonnic TV in John Lewis London for £40,000, a bit cheaper than the Sharp one 108" one
-
We rent 6 Mono laser printers, the other advantage is when somthing breaks you call and normally within 3 hours we have somebody onsite fixing it. We pay £14 a quarter rental, then .58 of a penny per copy.
-
I think it would be funny if business/education give it the same backlash as they did Vista and XP still stays king. Would be interesting to see how Microsoft would respond to it.

I can get more information out of him, but he's currently on a place back home to the netherlands. I will ask him for more indepth detail.
