Hi Matt unfortunatly Unifi35 are not the best projector, i am trying to be as kind as i can here, search for it in here you will see what i mean. Does it shut down or just blank the screen if you leave it connected does all fans stop after 5 mins or so? or is it just blanking the screen so if you remove the connection to the computer does it come back on from a blank screen? Your quite right it was a trypo its 1000 hrs for avarage deep clean but it depends on your school i have seen some schools go to 2000hrs and some that need cleaning every 700 or so, also an interesting point cleaning the filters to often makes the problem worse (dont confuse deep clean with filter clean, deep clean can ONLY be done by an engineer in a workshop). This to think about they are not as bright as lets say a standred Epson X9 and nowhere as sharp well reported is the colour tint and colour rendition problems they have and also they are more expencive and contry to poluler belife you do need to have them deep cleaned every 100 hrs or so i have done many of them now. It is possible that you might but before you do check on the back of your board as you look at the back top right where the current lead connects and you may find you have a USB socket on the bottom of that block all you have to do is connect your normal A to B USB (printer) lead and away you go if it is a very early one you will have to get the serial adaptor they say. HDMI DVI-d same cable different plug i have had problems with several supposedly better cables and dont be fooled by "gold" connectors gold colour maybe...lol Try if you can the projector with a much shorter cable, dvd player or computer on steps if projector is mounted high. What length is your HDMI? it is only reliable to 20mtr above that you need to amplifi the signal. A second problem could be cheap HDMI leads some i have seen are of very poor quality and would give you this problem. Marc Projector Engineer

HI, OK here is what you do press menu, now look at the colours on the menu are they OK? if the answer is yes then it is the input, it is very rare to have a internal problem of this type so i suspect VGA cable as from the picture you have a colour missing and suspect a broken wire "if" your menu test is OK if it is not OK then the problem is internal and i will help you diagnose further. OK looks liike these where installed in your summer hols 2009, but did you get an educational warrenty, i am concerened because this model is not normally for schools, you may not have a education 3 cover, you need to check with your installers but it SHOULD be still covered from the serial number. To be honest i dont see many of these they are generally a good unit but supprised you say they came with a Promethean install? They have a long on site cover 3 years if you tell me the serial number i can tell youif it is still covred. Marc Projector Engineer

Yes the Hitachi is a nice unit not seen much problem with Hitachi altho i have seen one unusual problem that effects them in a Victorian school with suspended ceilings, they suffer a problem (very rare) in some schools of this type. I am unfortunatly wary of the Casio as i belive they will have a problem with half life in the method of the illumination unit in them they use a combination of laser and LED to get the colour blance and they age at differant rates, this will in time give you a colour tint only age will tell how bad this will get, i also find them not quite as bright as they claim and not quite as sharp as i would expect them to be. And people forget they still need cleaning same as any other projector and by this i mean a deep clean of the internal optics. Very shortly you will see "true" LED projectors by other companies that are testing them now. Marc Projector Engineer

Not bad but first look at the InFocus 3914 as much as it pains me to say so this is a good projector i have always regarded them as the "cheaper" end of the market the if you like Wolworth end of the market But i have seen several now and they are well made and requier NO set up no calibration and no software to be interactive (yes honest) not only that but you can stand at the back of the classroom and use the pen as a laser pointer and control the mouse with it. Firstly its NOT the switch, it may still be the lamp do you have another projector to swap lamps with? If not it may be the ballast unit is faulty its an unusual but not unheard of fault but it is usually the lamp i have known several lamps faulty from new in the last 3 months. Yes i think they may be correct, it sounds like its had a knock and one of the mirrors is way out of alignment, most companies are run as seperate entitys so Epson USA is nothing to do with Epson UK etc etc. so no they cant look at it for you under warrenty, you might like to email Epson USA and as if you can get it repaired over here on their behalf, just maybe. Yes they do get worse we call it creaping coruption, as it seems to grow once started (oh dear another DLP), if its not uner warranty then it will be a replacement, sorry. Marc Projector Engineer

Just to put my two penneth in i would go for a none DLP as you would need access to be easy for repairs to your DLP machine, they tend not to be as long lasting or reliable as LCD we certanly see more DLP write offs than we should and more than LCD in our workshops. Marc Projector Engineer

Well its actually not a bad price but yes you still have to fit them and set them up can be tedious to get right setting up "black" and you MUST wear UV glasses when you do this as it of course has to be done when on ! So better option for you may be to replace projector. Marc Projector Engineer

No this is lamp failure at running temp the lamp is soft so will distort the glass (actually its quartz) tube so if this is distorted by damage IE. shutting down without cooling when you use it in normal position it will distort further in downward direction and cause it to shut down, if you have the projector so the lamp eliment is facing up it is not pulled down when it gets hot so does not distort further i think if you try it upside down it will also work, so the answer it to mount all boards on the ceiling (only joking), you need to try a new lamp. if this does not work then you have a secondary problem of damaged ballest, that will be time to look at changing projectors as they are not cost effective to repair.
